PokerPages.com at MIrage Poker Showdown and PPT Day 2
by Mike Paulle Event #2 7-Card Stud and #3 Pot Limit Omaha Final Table Results and PPT Day 2 PPT's Final Table? After Ron Faltinsky's Jacks got cracked by Blair Rodman's A Q and an Ace on the turn, all eyes turned to the pygmy stack of Jack McClelland. Ever the joker, Jack said "I don't want to be on TV with 30,000, I want to win some chips." He didn't get the chance. When he got the big blind again, Ted Forrest bet McClelland's exact stack under the gun. When Jack found an Ace in his hand, McClelland had to go. Jack had A 2. Ted had A J. "Good luck," McClelland said as he departed in the worst spot in poker. 7th in the PPT or WPT. Final Table Seat 1 Ted Forrest 637k Seat 2 Blair Rodman 141k Seat 3 Chris Tsiprailidis 82k Seat 4 David Levi 194k Seat 5 Randy Jensen 106k Seat 6 Tom Franklin 597k 1:35 I told it would slow down for 8th and 7th. The players stalled long enough for Jack McClelland to get the new big blind of 8k which is almost 20% of his stack. Final Table Seat 1 Ted Forrest 600k Seat 2 Blair Rodman 150k Seat 4 Chris Tsiprailidis 110k Seat 5 David Levi 200k Seat 6 Randy Jensen 150k Seat 8 Tom Franklin 525k Seat 9 Ron Faltinsky 35k Seat 10 Jack McClelland 45k Forrest and Franklin are running over the table with big bets as players try to hang on for TV. It's the way the game is played now with fame coming from the little screen. 12:55 Is Ted Forrest picking up any hands? He just showed pocket ladies and a 120k raise to get Tom Franklin to muck. Then in the small blind a few hands later, Teddy Poker found pocket Kings and reraised enough to cover Tomko. They were the case two cowboys as Dewey Tomko raised all-in with the A K of Spades and someone said they had a King. Dewey needed three spades or an Ace and got none of them. The man who has been jobbed, like T J Cloutier, out of two World Championships left in 9th. 12:45 Crowd favorite Jack McClelland just doubled up his 50k with big slick on the button. Ron Faltinsky was at fault for calling with the K 9 of Clubs. Randy Jensen, "You just wait and wait," talking to Jack. 12:35 We're finally getting it out of the muck. 1k ante, 3k/6k blinds. The average stack is over 180k though, so still 30 big blinds. Lots of time to wait for someone else to make a mistake. 12:15 Then there were nine. Ex-champ Dan Harrington is used to final tables, but this wasn't the real one. He tried presto, pocket red 5's on the button. He had two flush draws as David Levi turned over two black Aces in the big blind. A little thrill went over the spectators as two 6's flopped. Almost fives don't help. Action Dan was 10th. 12:05 We have a single table, but it's 10 handed. Mike Laing called an all-in reraise drawing dead to running 8's. Randy Jensen flopped a set of 10's. Mike flopped two pair 10's and 8's. Mike and Randy shook hands before the turn card. Unlike San Jose when Danny Nguyen caught the only two cards he needed, running 7's for one million dollars, Laing got two blanks. Final Table Seat 1 Ted Forrest 370k Seat 2 Blair Rodman 150k Seat 3 Dan Harrington 55k Seat 4 Chris Tsiprailidis 155k Seat 5 David Levi 75k Seat 6 Randy Jensen 285k Seat 7 Dewey Tomko 95k Seat 8 Tom Franklin 375k Seat 9 Ron Faltinsky 110k Seat 10 Jack McClelland 65k 11:45 If you can get your hand into the muck, you can say you had anything. Ralph Perry nee Rafael Peroskin, successfully mucked his all-in call on the river drawing dead. Tom Franklin trap checked the nuts on the turn with the A 9 of Spades. When Tom bet enough to cover Ralph, Perry called. He told the exit interview he had Kings. It must have been A K with a King on the flop. 11 left. 11:25 Another A 10, another railbird. The short stacks are getting lucky. An Tran had the dreaded hand. Blair Rodman had A Q. End of story. 12 left. Nearing one table, but not nearing the Final Table. 11:15 David Oppenheim was another shorty. He made a move when he picked up the K 2 of Spades. Tom Franklin has been dreaming cards for two days. He woke up with A K. 13 now. Don't be too hopeful about the pace. 8 and 7 can take hours. 11:05 Do I know my players? Ted Forrest just did it again. This was was worse. Steve Zolotow was short stacked for hours. He didn't have enough chips to protect his K Q against the giant stack of Forrest. Steve was all-in with K Q. Ted called with Q 9. There was a Queen on the flop...and a 9 on the river. Down to 14. 10:55 Since coming back from the break, hopefully the last one, Area 51 favorite Charlie Shoten ran into another space cadet Mike Laing. In a 100k pot, Charlie was all-in with K 5 and a 5 on the flop. Ever creative, Laing called with 8 3 when he flopped two pair. Then super nice guy and great player, David Chiu, couldn't hit either of his overcards with A 10 versus Ted Forrest, who seldom misses with any hand, with pocket 8's. 15 left going to six. 9:35 Another 45 minute break. Don't ask. Take your NoDoz if you want to see the end of this one. 9:25 Table 1 Seat 1 Dan Harrington 60k Seat 2 David Chiu 40k Seat 3 David Oppenheim 60k Seat 4 Ron Faltinsky 180k Seat 5 Tom Franklin 260k Seat 6 Jack McClelland 50k Seat 7 Ted Forrest 200k Seat 8 Chris Tsiprailidis 100k Seat 9 Steve Zolotow 40k Table 2 Seat 1 Dewey Tomko 130k Seat 2 Ralph Perry 65k Seat 3 Charlie Shoten 60k Seat 4 MIke Laing 130k Seat 5 David Levi 60k Seat 6 Randy Jensen 30k Seat 7 Blair Rodman 60k Seat 8 An Tran 120k 9:15 it's finally time to get serious. When two players were knocked out together, they redrew for two tables. I'll give you the new lineup in a second. 8:55 One more and they will redraw for two tables. The rockets were blasting off. David Levi had the pocket Aces. Richard Tatalovich went bye-bye with pocket Kings. Then in a huge two out beat, Billy Baxter flopped a set of Jacks. Tom Franklin felt pot-committed with his Aces and caught an Ace on the river. 8:25 Back from the break, they are still only playing 1,200/2,400 blinds. With the average stack 81k. there is no pressure to gamble yet. 7:55 15 minute break. Surinder Sunar got pizza parlored by Chris Tsiprailidis. Toto went back to Kansas. 21 left. 7:45 The winner of the Pot Limit Omaha Event #3 got the extra 50 cents and the title. He is 21-year-old Bradley Williams. Chad 'No Choke' Layne was second with a bullet. And Jeff 'No Game' Rine lagged well back in third. 23 still in the PPT. Bill Baxter David Chiu Ron Faltinsky Ted Forrest Tom Franklin Dan Harrington Randy Jensen Mike Laing Toto Leonidas David Levi Jack McClelland Jim Meehan David Oppenheim Ralph Perry Blair Rodman Charlie Shoten Surinder Sunar Richard Tatalovich Dewey Tomko An Tran Chris Tsiprailidis Robert Turner Steve Zolotow 7:25 Thomas Keller didn't make enough from Randy Holland to hold off extinction by Randy Jensen. Phi Nguyen went out before the chip count. And Trey Aldridge got to go back to work. That choking sound from the PLO Final Table was from Jeff Rine swallowing his tongue. He was third, the surprise is that he got that far. Bradley Williams made a flush to flush the Detroit Mouth out of the event. Heads up the chips were so close Layne and Williams wimped out and split the money evenly. So they are playing to be the name you see as the winner. 7:05 Randy Holland only had lint left after getting lost in the Forrest. He went all-in for 5k with A Q. Thomas Keller called from the small blind with the K 9 of Diamonds. There was a King on the flop. They just did a chip count: Trey Aldridge 94k Billy Baxter 54k David Chiu 70k Ron Faltinsky 120k Ted Forrest 200k Tom Franklin 165k Dan Harrington 35k Randy Jensen 125k Thomas Keller 25k Mike Laing 20k Toto Leonidas 6k David Levi 45k Jack McClelland 55k Jim Meehan 110k Phi Nguyen 70k David Oppenheim 75k Ralph Perry 30k Blair Rodman 85k Charlie Shoten 55k Surinder Sunar 60k Richard Tatalovich 60k Dewey Tomko 85k An Tran 120k Chris Tsiprailidis 70k Robert Turner 40k Steve Zolotow 40k In the PLO Final Table, Josh Kinch went out 4th when his A A was cracked by Bradley Williams 7 7 and a set of sevens. Chad Layne doesn't seem to be choking even though Jeff Rine offered an even split of the prize money with a third of the chips. "I thought it was fair," Jeff said. "It was my final offer." 6:45 Ok. NOW there is only one ex-champ and it's Dan Harrington. Brad Daugherty and Randy Holland let Ted Forrest see the flop with his pocket 7's then paid him off. Ted flopped a set. That left Brad's J J and Randy's Q Q gasping for air that never arrived. It cost Daugherty all his chips and Randy almost all. Forrest won a 200k pot to take the chip lead. There seems to be a choking sound coming from the PLO table as Jeff Rine doubled up again against Chad Layne. Both players are two of the good guys. They know I kidding. NOT! 6:35 Oh, no! Who will lead the children to dinner? Marcel Luske tried pocket Kings, the Ace magnets, all-in against Dewey Tomko's A Q. Bang! An Ace on the flop. Who didn't know that? In the PLO Final Table, Jack Rose from his chair in 5th when he flopped up and down. His 9 8 failed to connect and Josh Kinch chinched the exit with two Kings in his four cards. 6:25 Tom Franklin has taken over the chip lead by knocking out Bobby Hoff with Jacks to the legend Hoff's A J. Randy Jensen, Jim Meehan and Ron Faltinsky are close to the 138k of Franklin. The average is 60k with 29 left. Only 23 to the money, lol. In the Pot Limit Omaha, mouthy Jeff Rine is predicting victory from his 9,500 at the break. Chad Layne has about 60% of the chips so "I will look like a big choke," Chad jokes. No one believes Jeff anyway. 6:05 Still five handed in the PLO FT. 30 PPTers left. Number 31 in your program, Tony Cousineau with J J. David Chiu with A K. You know the end of the story. 5:55 With no PPT or Final Table tomorrow, the players are asking me what I'm going to do. Just to make sure I come in, the Mirage has added another event to the schedule. A $15k Heads Up Championship. It will be interesting how many sign up. 5:45 In the PLO Andy Bloch made the mistake of starting with the massively better hand. A K J 8 versus Chad Layne's A 5 4 2. No problem. A pair of 5's won it. Bloch was 6th. Noli Francisco was knocked out by Mike Laing. 31 players remain as we have another technical timeout. Trey Aldridge Bill Baxter David Chiu Tony Cousineau Brad Daugherty Ron Faltinsky Ted Forrest Tom Franklin Dan Harrington Bobby Hoff Randy Holland Randy Jensen Thomas Keller Mike Laing Toto Leonidas David Levi Marcel Luske Jack McClelland Jim Meehan Phi Nguyen David Oppenheim Ralph Perry Blair Rodman Charlie Shoten Surinder Sunar Richard Tatalovich Dewey Tomko An Tran Chris Tsiprailidis Robert Turner Steve Zolotow 5:35 All the good actors are out. Only the bad actors remain. James Woods had K 8 short stacked all-in against Dan Harrington's pocket 10's. Does anyone in poker play 10's better than Dan? O'Neil Longson is out in 7th at the PLO Final Table when he was drawing dead all-in from the small blind on the flop when Josh Kinch flopped 9's full of Kings in the big blind. 5:25 The Pot Limit Omaha Event #3 only had 46 entries so they are already at the Final Table. Seat 1 Andy Bloch 5,600 Seat 2 Jeff Rine 9,500 Seat 3 O'Neil Longson 4,700 Seat 4 Josh Kinch 7.500 Seat 5 Peter Mitchell 15,000 Seat 6 Jack Rose 12,500 Seat 7 Bradley Williams 30,000 Seat 8 Chris Bjorin 6.500 Seat 9 Chad Layne 20,000 Bradley Williams knocked out Peter Mitchell and Chris Bjorin on the second hand with a wheel. Mitchell had A A. Chris had Q Q. The board came J 6 3 2 4. Williams, at age 21, had 5 4. Another GEN 20 for my list. Prize money 1st $26,772 2nd $15,393 3rd $8,031 4th $4,685 5th $3,681 6th $3,011 7th $2,342 8th $1,673 9th $1,342 5:05 These are the survivors of lunch. They were able to hold hands all the way back from the buffet. Trey Aldridge Bill Baxter David Chiu Tony Cousineau Brad Daugherty Antonio Esfandiari Ron Faltinsky Ted Forrest Tom Franklin Noli Francisco Dan Harrington Bobby Hoff Randy Holland Randy Jensen Thomas Keller Mike Laing Toto Leonidas David Levi Marcel Luske Jack McClelland Jim Meehan Phi Nguyen David Oppenheim Ralph Perry Blair Rodman Charlie Shoten Surinder Sunar Richard Tatalovich Dewey Tomko An Tran Chris Tsiprailidis Robert Turner James Woods Steve Zolotow 4:15 "I was getting 20-1 on my money," Harley Hall said. He went all-in on a reraised pot to try to get some chips. Hall had K Q. Jim Meehan had Aces and Richard Tatalovich 9's. With a 9 on the river, Richard won a huge pot and put Harley out in the Hall. 3:55 On lunch break for an hour. "All players form a line behind Marcel. Hold hands, he'll lead you to the buffet." They've finally found the right intellectual level for this group. Bill Gazes had pocket Aces in the big blind. He raised Charlie Shoten three times and couldn't get the Zen Master to lay down the 6 5 of Spades. Shoten rivered a running straight. 3:45 Brad Daugherty. Oh, him! Sorry Brad you did win a WSOP didn't you. Brad knocked out Antonio Esfandiari with pocket 10's to A 10. 3:35 The women and former WSOP champs, for some inexplicable reason, are linked. Jerri Thomas and Carlos Mortensen left at the same time. That leaves (surprise!) Action Dan Harrington as the last former champ in the event. As usual, the champs win the last longer. Some day women will start winning No Limit tournaments. 3:25 The Boss is Back...on the rail. Marcel Luske did the politically incorrect thing this time knocking out Lyle Berman. Lyle had 10 9 and Marcel flew over him with J 10. Will Europeans be allowed in PPT 2? Asher Derei, Lee Watkinson and Mel Judah exited with The Boss. 38 remain, playing to six. They are taking a lunch break at 4 pm. Trey Aldridge Bill Baxter David Chiu Tony Cousineau Brad Daugherty Antonio Esfandiari Ron Faltinsky Ted Forrest Tom Franklin Noli Francisco Bill Gazes Harley Hall Dan Harrington Bobby Hoff Randy Holland Randy Jensen Thomas Keller Mike Laing Toto Leonidas David Levi Marcel Luske Jack McClelland Jim Meehan Carlos Mortensen Phi Nguyen David Oppenheim Ralph Perry Blair Rodman Charlie Shoten Surinder Sunar Richard Tatalovich Jerri Thomas Dewey Tomko An Tran Chris Tsiprailidis Robert Turner James Woods Steve Zolotow 3:15 Wendeen Eolis is out. That leaves Jerri Thomas as the last female. If there is a PPT 2, it will be interesting to see if Wendeen will be allowed to play. Bless her heart. 3:05 Who would have thought I could look back at the good old days of coverage at the Bellagio. Max Stern is out. 2:55 Here's who is still in: Trey Aldridge Bill Baxter Lyle Berman David Chiu Tony Cousineau Brad Daugherty Asher Derei Wendeen Eolis Antonio Esfandiari Ron Faltinsky Ted Forrest Tom Franklin Noli Francisco Bill Gazes Harley Hall Dan Harrington Bobby Hoff Randy Holland Randy Jensen Mel Judah Thomas Keller Mike Laing Toto Leonidas David Levi Marcel Luske Jack McClelland Jim Meehan Carlos Mortensen Phi Nguyen David Oppenheim Ralph Perry Blair Rodman Charlie Shoten Max Stern Surinder Sunar Richard Tatalovich Jerri Thomas Dewey Tomko An Tran Chris Tsiprailidis Robert Turner Lee Watkinson James Woods Steve Zolotow 2:45 The pace has finally slowed down on the second day. The ante is 100 blinds are 500/1,000. There are 44 players left and the average stack is 38k. So the gamblers are gone, these are the players who want to grind it out. It will be a long night as we have to get to six for the PPT Final Table that will be played after the WPT final. 2:25 J C Tran had A J, Thomas Keller had A K. The thunder struck. Layne Flack took a bad one and is history. A K for Layne. A 4 for Tom Franklin. Captain Tom took the ship into port with a flopped A 4. Ouch! Flack continues to run bad back to back. 44 stil in. 2:15 Readers like to know how Phil Hellmuth went out. And if he threw a tantrum. Phil was so short stacked he went all-in with pocket 8's. Richard Tatalovich did the honors with pocket Queens. No tantrum. Another former champ went out next. Huck Seed's departure lowers the former champ number to Dan Harrington and Carlos Mortensen who just doubled up against Marcel Luske. 2:05 This is what happens when you believe things you read on the net. They started at 1 pm not 2. In order, the following players are out: Young Phan Vinnie Vinh Phil Hellmuth Huck Seed Chris Karagulleyan John Stolzmann 46 are left.
