WINNER and a Bit of the $3,000 NL- Event #4

by Chris Newton

Friday, 02nd of December 2005 07:15 PM

Steve is in so he will start a post for Event 4 after dinner

Friday, 02nd of December 2005 06:55 PM

So Heads up

NOT FOR LONG

Happened to look up and everyone was crowded around the stage table - eventually I figured Scotty had 5 4 of hearts and Orlando 10 4 off. The board had been moved but read 4 10 7 5 9 . Orlando had flopped two pair and Scotty made the fatefull lower two pair on the turn.
Scotty Nguyen second then today receiving $124,030

Today's event down to 62 at the end of level 6 and on a break.

Jeff Cohen had doubled up once with an 8 outer on the river to make a straight against Scotty.
This time though Scotty had him down to 4 outs when Jeff was all-in with two pair Queens and Jacks but Scotty had made his King high flush on the turn. No announcment of the last card , but we do know
Jeff Cohen will receive $62,015 for his 3rd placing

And then , of course , when it rains it pours - I'll bet you've never heard that expression in a poker BLOG before.

Rodeen finds himself all-in with Jack 9 on a flop of 9 7 7, but Scotty was waiting to pounce with his overpair tens. It's a 3 on the turn and a King on the river to put paid to Rodden's chances in this tournament.
Rodeen Talebi 5th receiving $25,370

The Real Rodeen Talebi

The reason for the caption, Steve and I both spotted two different guys two days ago we thought was Rodeen. They even both looked like his photo in the Photo Gallery

Jack McClelland annouces a level change : 3,000 Ante 8,000-16,000 blinds.

Then , naturally the first hand at this level David Cossio goes all-in with a hand normally not too bad 4 handed, King Jack but it''s the chip accumulator Orlando making the call with Ace Queen. It's still a bit of a race , even after the flop of 3 9 2, but a Queen on the turn leaves David with only 3 outs. The 4 which appears on the river isn't one of them and
David Cossio has to be content with 4th placed money of $33,830

Not much happening on the stage table. Orlando did go all-in on the flop a moment ago to clear everyone elso out of the pot

In the next tournament the $3,000 NL the people I know who are well off in chips are

John Phan
Mark Gregorich
Davood Mehrmand
Barry Greenstein
Young Phan
Cecilia Nordenstam
Ben Roberts
Connie Kim

and Dale Slinkard with over 110,000 easily twice the next player

Jeff doubles up early in the level when his Ace 7 holds up against Rodeen's Queen 9, an Ace on the flop helped the favourite hand.

Friday, 02nd of December 2005 05:16 PM

The Game is now 2,000 Ante 6,000 - 12,000 blinds

Scotty makes some ground when he gets a call for his all-in bet preflop. Scotty dominates the caller's Ace 9 with his own Ace Queen suited. The Queen plays when the board comes Ace 5 6 7 5.

JC hasn't had a good today, he started with a substantial lead but has run into Aces twice. Well when he gets it all-in before the flop with Queens he gets called by Orlando who has had a good day today. JC is behind Orlando has Aces !!. The board shows 9 9 6 6 3 and
JC Tran probably won't be happy with his 6th placed finish but he will have $19,730 as a consolation.

In Event 4 we are down to 105 - 18 being paid First will get $266,935

Friday, 02nd of December 2005 04:10 PM

JC Tran must be running a little low in chips now because Jeff Cohen gets it all in on the flop against him. JC has top pair the Queen 5 5 flop matching his Q 10 hand but Jeff has an overpair, Aces and they hold up and he doubles up.

Once again Orlando goes all-in after the flop and all others fold.

I will be able to do a chip count when the players go on break

Friday, 02nd of December 2005 03:52 PM

Orlando using the all-in tactic again finds a caller this time , Anthony Reategui with 9s. Orlando has gone with Ace Jack. Flop comes 2 7 10, but that needed Ace slides out on the turn and is joined by a Jack on the river to give Orlando the pot.

Anthony has run a bit low himself now and bets the lot preflop, he gets raised by David Cossio, a bet which is called elsewhere. When the flop comes King Jack 3, Anthony's K 6 doesn't look too bad, except David now bets and after the other player folds he shows King KIng. The flop were all spades giving Anthony a chance at a split but the turn is a red Queen so-
Anthony Reategui will have to be content with $14,095 for his 7th placing.

A little more action which got announced.
Orlando pushes all-in for his last 48,000 but has no callers. The centre is 17,000 before any other bets so it's worth picking up for a small stack.
An all-in , called, occurs when Rodeen gets it all-in with Aces and JC tran calls with Jacks. Rodeen doubles up.

Shortly after Eugene Katchalov bets his last with Ace 9 suited ( hearts), but finds David Cossio with Aces. After the turn there are two hearts on the board, no 9s, so Eugene needs a heart. . The 4 isn't a heart so we lose Eugene Katchalov in 8th place in this event , lining up for a $11,275 payout

The Final Table begins

The Level is 1000 Ante 3000 - 6000 blinds

Hand 3 - David Cossio makes it 20,000 to go and Bobby Orr , the very short stack quickly puts himself all-in for about 7,000 more. David calls and has the dominant hand of Ace Queen vs Bobby's Ace 9. A Queen hits the flop and when the turn is a 2 it's over for Bobby.
Bobby Orr 9th in this 3rd event collecting $9,020.
