2009 World Series of Poker - Event #47 - Mixed Hold'em (Limit/No-Limit) $2,500 - Final

Champ Bahador Ahmadi
Wow. Ten minutes ago, they were still three-handed. Now tournament staff is setting up for pictures with the bracelet winner. Bahador Ahmadi won pot after pot once they switched to the limit round, and he managed to take a sizable chip lead over both opponents. John McGuinness doubled through Ahmadi once, but Bahador just chipped away at his stack all over again.

Then Ahmadi raised to 105,000, and BB Ylon Schwartz shipped in his last 495,000. Ahmadi called with A 2, meaning Ylon, who tabled Q T, needed to improve. The board was dealt as slowly as possible but Schwartz got no help from the 8 5 3 K K. He gets $112,967 for 3rd place, only a few million less than the $3,774,974 he earned for his 4th place finish in last year’s Main Event.

The floor set up for heads-up quickly, and the dealer gave each player his first two heads up hole cards. A 7 2 on the flop, and with no pauses or ceremony, all the money was in the middle in a flash. John McGuiness, well, well, well covered, was all in with T T to Ahmadi’s J 3. No time wasted on suspense in this hand. The K on the turn made Ahmadi’s flush and with McGuiness drawing dead, Bahador became the Rio’s newest bracelet winner. John McGuiness goes home with $172,227 for 2nd place, not bad for his first WSOP cash. Ahmadi, a 24-year old from Canada, earns $278,804 along with his first bracelet. He also finished 4th in a No Limit tournament at the beginning of the Series. It’s been a good few weeks for Ahmadi, who now has two WSOP cashes, two final tables, and one bracelet.

Ylon Schwarts raises preflop to 80k and Barry Greenstein called leaving himself just a few chips.  The flop came K 2 2, and Greenstein moved all in.  Schwartz called the 30k and turned over pocket queens.  Greenstein had 8  6 .  The turn and river didn’t help Greenstein at all, and he was out in 5th place for $57,671.

Karlo Lopez wasn’t able to steal without a showdown.  He reraised Ylon Schwartz to 120k.  John McGuiness made it 160k.  Schwartz and Lopez made the call.  The flop came 6  2  3 .  McGuinnes made it 40.  Schwartz called, and Lopez called all in.  The turn brought a Q .  McGuiness bet 80k, and Schwartz folded.  McGuiness turned over 6 6 for a set, and Lopez was drawing dead with K 9.  He is our 4th place finisher taking home $78,628.

It is now down to three players.  Ylon Schwartz, John McGuiness, and Bahador Ahmadi head into three way action with Schwartz the chip leader.

Blinds are currently 15,000/30,000 with 30,000-60,000 limits.

There has been a lot of back and forth his hour.  Bahadir Ahmadi raised to 60k, Greenstein made the call, and Karlo Lopez raised to 90k.  Ahmandi made it 120k to go, Greenstein called, and Lopez caps for 150k.  Ahmandi and Greenstein call.  The flop comes Q  4  8 .  Greenstein checks, Lopez bets 30k, and both players call.  The turn is the K , and everyone checks.  The river is the Q , and it checked to Lopez to bet 60k.  Ahmandi and Greenstein fold.  Lopez shows pocket jacks and rakes in a nice size pot.

John McGuiness raised to 60k.  Bahador Ahmadir called, and Greenstein moved all in for 154k.  McGuiness moved in over the top for 479k.  Ahmadir eventually folds after some long thought.  Mc Guiness turns over K  J  against Greenstein’s A  T .  The board runs out 3  9  A  7  6 .  Greenstein doubles to 400k.

There have been a few eliminations this hour.

Hasan Habib fell in 8th place against Barry Greenstein.  Habib reraised Greenstein to 75k.  Greenstein made the call, and the flop came 3c Jd 8c.  Greenstein made a bet big enough to put Habib all in.  Habib made the call.  Greenstein showed top pair of jacks, and Habib was unable to beat that when the rest of the board ran dry.

Greenstein raised to 55k in early position, and Randy Haddox moved in for 144k.  Greenstein called.  Haddox showed A  K  against Greenstein’s K  J .  The board ran 5 5 9 J 7.  Greenstein won with a pair of jacks to bust Haddox out in 7th place for $36,084.

The next hand, Matt Woodward pushed on the button for 324k.  Bahador Ahmadi called.  Woodward showed A  T  against Ahmandi’s pocket aces.  The board came K A 2 7 J to give Ahmandi a set of aces and Woodward received a 6th place finish worth $44,520.

The action has certainly spiced up this level, and Barry Greenstein is at the heart of it.  Greenstein started the day off with a little under 200k in chips, so he is relatively short stacked.  He got involved in hand with Hasin Habib and doubled him up leaving Greestein needing a double up.

Zachary Humphrey pushed from the small blind and Greestein called from the big blind.  Humphrey showed J  T  against Greenstein’s A  8 .  The board came out A  A  5  2  8  to double Greenstein back up to 190k.

Humphrey was left with a short 10k and pushed it in from late position, and it was heads up against Randy Haddox in the big blind.  Humphrey had K  7  against Haddox’s T  8 .  The board ran out Q K J 7 A which was enough to knock Humphrey out in 9th place for $27, 199.

Welcome back to the final day of the $2,500 Mixed Hold’em Event.  There were a total of 527 entries into this event, but only 9 remain at the start of today.  Karlo Lopez will start the day as the chip leader with 941k.  Here is the final table seating position:

1.  Bahador Ahmadi
2. Zachary Humphrey
3. Barry Greenstein
4. Hasan Habib
5. Karlo Lopez
6. Randy Haddox
7. John McGuiness
8. Ylon Schwartz
9. Matt Woodward

The final table started off fairly slow with little significant action.  Then Karlo Lopez raised from late position in the big bling.  Ylon Schwartz made the call.  The flop came A  J  8 .  Schwartz check called a bet from Lopez.  The turn came a 9 to which Schwartz check raised.  Schwartz then bet dark on the river, and it came a J .  Lopez made the call, and Schwartz turned over Q  T .  Lopez showed A K and then mucked.

Today brings us to the final day of play of the $2,500 Mixed Limit/No Limit Hold'em event, and the final nine are ready to hit the felt. Will Barry Greenstein, Ylon Schwartz, or Hasan Habib be able to take this event down? Or will a new champion emerge from the ranks of the unknowns? Action will begin at 2 p.m. PDT and won't stop until we've crowned our victor. Stay tuned to Poker Pages for all the LIVE coverage.
