Champ Jeff Lisandro
Jeff Lisandro is the Event #44 Champion, good for $188,390 and his third bracelet of the 2009 WSOP (4th career).

After a dominating performance, Jeff Lisandro is the Event #44 champion.

To accomplish the feat, Lisandro first had to get to heads-up, so he got rid of Mirzikinian and Fisler.

Short stacked Mirzikinian found himself all in by 5th in a pot with the big stack.  At that time, Warwick was working on an T 8 4 3 A low.  But after his last two cards came J and Q, the T8 would have to do.  But Lisandro would finish up (T 7) 4 5 2 6 (2) for the 76 low to claim yet another victim.

Warwick Mirzikinian is gone in 4th, earning $52,773.

After the hand, Lisandro's stack topped 2 million.

Fisler looked primed to double.  In the first of two pots with Lisandro, Fisler had 3 4 5 6 on the board in front of him, but still couldn't call a river bet, leaving himself about 35K.

Left with just one bet, Lisandro let Craig take care of his light work.  Fisler was all in on 3rd St.  By 7th, his board showed (9 5) 8 5 4 5 (K) for the sad K9 low.  Craig would finish up with (6 2) 3 4 J T (5).  The river squeeze gave Craig the 65 low and date with Lisandro in heads-up.

Ryan Fisler has been eliminated in 3rd, worth $76,261.

Entering heads-up, Lisandro led 2,153,000 to 210,000.  Just a few hands later, it was all over.

Craig started the final hand with a lovely looking (6 8) A and tossed in all but his last 20K in with a raise.  Lisandro called and after picking up another Ace, Craig moved all in.  Lisandro called.

Craig: (6 8) A A 8 J (K)
Lisandro: (T 8) 4 4 9 7 (J)

After such a good start to the hand, Craig pairs twice and can only muster a KJ low.  Lisandro had the thing wrapped before 7th St. with the T8 low.

Michael Craig finishes as runner-up, earning $116,405.

With the win, Lisandro has completed the Seven Card Stud trifecta this year, earning a bracelet in straight Stud, Stud-8 and now Razz.  Lisandro also joins Puggy Pearson (1973), Ted Forrest (1993), Phil Hellmuth (1993) and Phil Ivey (2002) as the only players to capture three bracelets in the same Series. Congrats, Jeff.

Play is now four-handed for the bracelet.

Players just returned from a 20-min break to 5K antes and bring-ins, as well as 20K-40K limits.  Of the 2.5 million or so chips in play, Lisandro had more than half as of break time.

Just before the break, Lisandro ran his stack up to 1.4 million after a big squeeze against Fisler.  Lisandro called Fisler raises and bets thru 5th St., then had his bets check-called by Fisler on the remaining two.  Fisler was able to show down 9 5 4 3 A but came up short as Lisandro showed (4 5 7) in the hole to go with his A A 3 5 board for the 75 low and the pot.

Lisandro already had all but 20K of Kenna James' stack, so he didn't have a problem with Michael Craig finishing "Cowboy" off.

Kenna called off his last few thousand on 4th St.  By the river he showed (4 8) 6 A 7 4 (Q) for the 87 low.  But Craig had (6 6) 2 3 J 5 (7) for the 76 low and the pot.

Kenna James is out in 6th-place, earning $29,473.

After the James elimination, it was break time.   With the hand, Craig was up 377,000 which is good for 2nd.  Still more than a million behind the Lisandro three-peat steamroll.

Not far behind was Eric Rodawig.

Rodawig was scarfing down some Pizza Hut he brought back from then break, just looking for a pot to throw his last 90K into.  Of course, he had to pick the pot with Lisandro in it.

By 3rd, Rodawig had committed all his chips holding (K 5) 5.  But after Rodawig's board finished up 8 Q J (X), he was drawing dead to the (Q 9) 7 6 T 5 (X) of Lisandro no worse than a T9 low.

Eric Rodawig will take hom $38,471 for finishing in 5th-place.

Finally lost a few and we now officially have the final table.  Six-handed now.  Don Zewin was apparently in a hurry to leave.

Zewin, the short stack, had the rest of his chips in after a capped 3rd St.  By 5th St., Zewin was nowhere to be found as I guess he exited even though he was drawing live.  Steve Diano continued to call Ryan Fisler down to the river, where Fisler showed an 87 low.  Diano mucked, while Zewin's J8 low didn't cut it.

Don Zewin has been eliminated in 9th, good for $15,570.

With the elimination, a seat was removed an the eight-handed final table was officially formed.  At the real final table, Allen Bari was the first to fall.

Bari held 55K at the time the final table introductions were completed.  With betting limits at 15K-30K, it didn't take much for Bari to call it off early.

With (Q 6) 4 K on the board, Bari tossed in his last 6K.  Fisler held (3 9) 4 K and would look Bari up.  By the river, Bari wasn't able to improve on his Q8 low. Fisler was able to show 9 6 5 4 3 to lighten the table load by one.

Allen Bari finishes in 8th, earning $19,880.

Lisandro then went on a run that pushed his stack ever so close to the 1 million chip mark.  In the process, he absolutely crippled Kenna James with a 95 low to the Cowboy's 97 low.  Just when it looked like they were penciling James' name on the 7th-place prize, Steve Diano cut in line.

Diano was left with only enough chips to bet thru 4th St.  Diano started with a promising (4 7) 6 but couldn't do any better than a J7 low.  Warwick Mirzikinian was able to get there and show 8 7 5 4 A for the pot.

Steve Diano finishes in 7th, worth $23,669 at payouts.

Short stacked Warwick Mirzikinian is no longer the short stack, thanks to not one, but two triple ups.

The first came just after break, with Lisandro and Craig making up the other two parties.  Warwick was all in on 4th, with A 7 on the board.  By the river, the Aussie tabled a 76 low, easily trumping Craig's weak JT.  Lisandro just mucked while Mirzikinian jumped up to 200K.

Mirzikinian would take a few hits before the second triple.  This time, with his 2 2 8 2 board leaving his hopes up to a squeeze, Mirzikinian was able to turn over 3 4 5 for the winning 85 low.  Fisler's 96 low was the second best, while Steve Diano had mucked after a Fisler bet on the river.  Mirzikinian now has 275K.

While Mirzikinian moved out of the cellar, Lisandro reclaimed the chip lead in his quest for his third bracelet of the Series.

Lisandro took a huge pot off of Kenna James with the not-so-razzy A A 9 A board.  James was one of two others in the pot, but the only to pay all the way down to the river.  Lisandro turned over 3 5 6 in the hole and the "Cowboy" mucked.

Not long after, Lisandro turned his attention to Allen Bari.  Bari called Lisandro bets on 4th and 5th, while Bari called a Lisandro bet on 6th.  Then after a check-raise on the river, Bari paid it off holding (4 4 6) 5 5 3 2 for the 6 5 4 3 2 low.  But Lisandro turned over (A 3 6) to go with his 2 8 5 2 board for the 6 5 3 2 A low, just topping Bari.

After the hand, Lisandro was up to 800K territory, which is twice the stack of Fisler, who sits in 2nd.

Break time at the final table.

As of break, Ryan Fisler has taken the chip lead with 440K, just ahead of Lisandro and his 400K.  Fisler got most of his chips in a three-way pot with Michael Craig and Don Zewin.  By 7th, Zewin had already folded and Fisler had 4 5 6 A on the board.  One more bet proved to be enough, as Craig squeezed before turning his 2 A 6 K face down and tossing it in the muck.

After the hand, Fisler was up around 500K.  Craig was left with about 85K, but would double thru Mirzikinian after squeezing out a wheel to get to 180K.

Steve Diano made a big push after picking up a wheel of his own.

On 7th St., Diano was able to show (2 4 5) 3 A 6 9 against Kenna James to double thru the cowboy.  Diano shot up to 225K, while James wandered below the 400K mark.  But Diano's upswing was halted by Eric Rodawig.  Rodawig was able to squeeze a 9 low to top the ten low of Diano, leaving Steve with about 100K and Rodawig near 300K.  But just before break, Diano made a nice 7 low and was paid all the way down by James to get back to 200K.

Play will resume any minute with 3,000 antes and bring-ins, along with 12K-24K limits.

Final table time.

To get to the re-draw, they needed to shed two players.  The first to volunteer was William Cole.

Cole made the mistake of tangling with the devilishly named Warwick Mirzikinian of from Down Under.  By 6th, with 4 5 T Q on the board, Cole tossed in his last 8K.  In the showdown, Cole, of Marietta, GA, turned over 2 3 4 in the hole to finish with a T5 low.  But Mirzikinian showed (3 8 2) 6 J A 5 for the tidy 65 low and the pot.

William Cole is out in 11th-place, good for a $12,737 payday.

The next to bow out was the "Sugar Bear".

Barbieri was in a tough spot, down to his last bet with 7 2 7 K on the board.  After checking the payouts and blind structure, "Sugar Bear" dumped in the call.  Ryan Fisler was hoping to K.O. Barbieri, having made the 76 low.  After a squeeze, Barbieri's hand went into the muck.

Al "Sugar Bear" Barbieri has been eliminated in 10th, earning $15,570.

The final nine were then ushered to the feature table to play down to a winner.  Here's how they're set up after the re-draw, along with chip counts from the WSOP:

  1. - Michael Craig - 150,000
  2. - Warwick Mirzikinian - 225,000
  3. - Don Zewin - 285,000
  4. - Steve Diano - 240,000
  5. - Allen Bari - 65,000
  6. - Ryan Fisler - 345,000
  7. - Jeff Lisandro - 500,000
  8. - Kenna James - 475,000
  9. - Eric Rodawig - 74,000
New level; 2,000 antes, 3,000 bring-ins and 10,000-20,000 limits.

For all you masochistic degenerates out there, Day 3 cards are in the air in the $2,500 Razz event.  Play began with a baker's dozen of dudes going for the Event #44 bracelet, playing with 2,000 antes and bring-ins, limits at 8,000-16,000.

With just 88K, Nikolay Evdakov showed up this afternoon as one of the short stacks.  Sadly, the Russian wasn't able to mount a comeback and was the first to leave the event.

Nikolay had one foot in the grave after a run in with Kenna James robbed him of half his stack.  "Cowboy" showed a 76 low to trump the 87 low of Evdakov.  Left with just 38K, Evdakov dusted those off to Ville Wahlbeck when he couldn't top the Finn's 65 low.

For Evdakov, who set the WSOP record with 10 cashes last year, his 13th-place finish for $10,106 is his 5th cash of the '09 Series.

Even after taking Nikolay's chips, Ville Wahlbeck would fall next by running the rest of his stack in Kenna James.  Wahlbeck began the day seated on the left of Jeff Lisandro.  Coincidently, those two began the day tied for the lead in the Player of the Year race with 255 pts.

By finishing 12th (worth $12,736), Wahlbeck will add 20 pts. to his total.  As long as Lisandro makes the final nine, he will leapfrog Wahlbeck for the lead.  So far, so good, as Lisandro is the chip leader with 475K.  Kenna James is right behind with 450K.

But not every all in has resulted in an elimination.  Allen Bari was able to double after getting it all in on 4th St. with 3 4 up.  Both Al "Sugar Bear" Barbieri and Ryan Fisler came along.  By 7th St. Fisler bet Barbieri out of the pot to show his 87 low.  But Bari turned over the pretty 7 4 3 2 A to survive and top the 110K mark.

Today marks the final day of the $2,500 Razz event at the World Series of Poker. Of the 315 players that entered this event, only thirteen remain. Players will return at 1 p.m. PDT to play down to the winner. Jeff Lisandro has his eye on a third bracelet this year and will start the final day as the chip leader.
