2009 World Series of Poker - Event #31 - H.O.R.S.E. $1,500 - Day 2
End of Day 2 chip counts and seating assignments:
Tuesday, 16th of June 2009 02:30 AM (O'Keeya Singleton reporting) Silveira: 2 3 4 K 5 4 9 Rouhani: 3 A 8 A A 6 K Third Player: Q Q J T J T 5 In a Stud Hi-Lo game Jim Silveira had the forced bet on 3rd St. and picked up two callers for the ride. The “third” player took control of 4th St. with a pair of Queens showing. Both Silveira and Farzad Rouhani called. The “third” player, making Queens-Up, bet. Silveira had a pair of Fours with an open ender and Rouhani with a pair of Aces and short on chips raised and reraised until they were both all-in. In the end Rouhani made a trip Aces on 6th St, Silveira’s straight never made it and the third player’s Queens-up was no good. Rouhani scooped with none of the players making a low and Silveira was out of the tournament. One of the last players to be eliminated tonight was Vassilios Lazarou. Lazarou: Q 6 T A Q XxXxPlayer 2: J 3 9 4 J J 3 Player 3: 4 A Q 9 2 6 7 Vassilios Lazarou moved the last of his chips in to pot on 4th St. in this Stud Hi-Lo hand. Player 2 called and took the high with rolled up Jacks. Player 3 called and took the low with his Seven high hand. Lazarou could night rise from the dead and was eliminated. Tuesday, 16th of June 2009 01:30 AM (O'Keeya Singleton reporting) Players have returned from a 30 minute break. Not long after returning from break Richard Brodie was heading toward the payout booth. He moved all-in with K T before the Flop in hold’em. Shannon Shorr and another player called. The Flop came 2 J Q . The “other” player checked and Shorr bet, only to be checked raised by that player. Shorr called and saw a K on the Turn. The other player bet and again Shorr called. Throwing on the brakes, the other player checked on the River and Shorr bet. The other player called. Shorr turned over A K for the nut flush and a big pot.In a hand of Omaha 8, Vanessa Russo raised on the River and picked up several callers. All the callers jumped ship when she showed A 2 8 J . The board read 2 9 3 A A . Russo had Aces full of Twos and scooped with no qualifying low. Tuesday, 16th of June 2009 12:30 AM (O'Keeya Singleton reporting) Sometimes the bad guy wins at the end of the movie. Sometime you can go home again. And sometime you don’t have to split the pot in a game of Hi-Lo Stud. Brodie: K 3 Q 9 XxXxXx Shorr: 6 T 7 T 4 8 9 Shannon Shorr and Richard Brodie had bet back and forth until 7th St. Shorr bet again and Brodie called to see Shorr had made a Ten high straight. Having not made the flush, Brodie couldn’t beat the straight and didn’t have a qualifying low hand. Andrew Black, Fabrice Soulier and James Van Alstyne decided to tussle in a Stud 8 hand. Andy Black: 5 6 5 T XxXxXxFabrice Soulier: 8 T 2 3 A 4 2 James Van Alstyne: Q A 5 6 Q Qx7 Black had control of the action with a pair of Fives showing and chose to check. Soulier bet, and Van Alstyne and Black called. Soulier had an Eight high to take the low. Van Alystne had rolled up Queens from the get-go and took the high. Black apparently, the only one left in the hand not to win a piece of the pot mucked his hand. Monday, 15th of June 2009 11:00 PM (O'Keeya Singleton reporting) With a name like Thor (The Nordic god of thunder) Hansen great things are expected from you. Tonight, Hansen made it into the money, but he will not be moving on to play tomorrow. Hansen: 2 6 2 8 3 3 XxSchiffman: J A A 8 9 8 A In a Stud Hi hand Hansen started thing off on 3rd St., but the rest of the hand he let Schiffman drive the bus. Schiffman bet on each street and Hansen called until he was all in on 6th St. Schiffman made a Full Boat on the river and Hansen would have to bring the thunder another day. Joining the once mighty Thor was Amir Nemantinia. Nematinia: 7 Q 4x5 6 4 T Soulier: 2 3 3 4 9 5 8 In a hand of Razz Nematinia moved all-in on 5th St. He paired his hole card 4 and Fabrice Soulier paired his 4th St 3 . He was hoping the paired Threes ruined Soulier’s hand enough for him to fold, but Soulier called. Soulier final hand was an Eight-high, which eliminated Nematinia who made only a Ten high.Monday, 15th of June 2009 10:00 PM (O'Keeya Singleton reporting) Maier: 2 7 6 3 J 4x5x2nd Player: 4 J 9 Kurtzman: 4 7 5 9 K Ax3x4th Player: Q 6 6 Q K Jones: A 8 7 2 In Stud Hi-Lo Lana Maier had the forced bet. She was called by two players, including Eric Kurtzman. Lacy Jones put in a raise and received four calls. Jones was first to act on 4th St and with one bet was all-in with four callers. On 5th St. Maier was first to bet, the “2nd player” folded and Kurtzman raised it up. The “4th Player” called as did Maier. On 6th St. Maier “accidentally” checked before her turn (possibly confused on who was supposed to act first). She bet when action rotated to her, but Kurtzman call for the floor (supervisor). The Floor agreed that the check was binding, so 6th St was checked down. On the River there was more controversy. Kurtzman’s River card was exposed accidentally by the dealer and the Floor was summoned again. His solution was to deal all the River cards face up. After a Looney Tunes like dust cloud settled, it was checked to Maier who bet and received two callers. She had made a Six-high for the low and a Seven high straight to scoop. The hand sent Jones to the rail and propelled Maier up the chip leader board. Monday, 15th of June 2009 09:00 PM (O'Keeya Singleton reporting) Paul Darden: 2 3 9 Other Player: 7 8 9 4 A 4 6 Andrew Black: 6 6 7 Q 3 5 6 Paul Darden and Andrew Black butted head in a Stud 8 (or better) match-up. Darden was the forced bet and Black and a third player called. Black paired his door card on 4th St. and bet first. Darden and the other player called. On 5th St. Black with the lead bet again, the third player called and Darden folded. Both players checked on 6th St. On the River “the other” player bet and Black called. The pot was split Black took the high with his trip Sixes and the other player qualified for the low with Eight high. David Singer has been livid at the performance of the dealer at his table and has expressed his opinion to the tournament director. Meanwhile David “Boston” Dvorkis was also looking for a split in Stud 8, like Black. Alan “Boston”: 7 6 K 2 Other Player: 3 Q J 8 A Q 2 On 3rd St. the other player had the forced bet and Boston called. On 4th St. the other player still with the lead bet and Boston called again. Boston took the lead on 5th St. checked and received a check in return. Boston bet on 6th St and was called. He bet again on the River and again was called. Boston qualified for the Low with a Six high (including his hole cards) and the other player took the high with a pair of Queens. Monday, 15th of June 2009 08:00 PM (Dane Young reporting)The H.O.R.S.E. tournament has resumed with 99 players left in level 13. While Andrew Black has been getting more attention, his tablemate Paul Darden has been quietly amassing chips all day long. Considering his east coast background, it seemed like he would be murdering in the Stud games, but Darden said that he has been "doing well in all the games." Darden, staying warm in an ornate hoodie, is patiently sitting behind an 80,000 chip fortresss and is in contention for the chip lead. Monday, 15th of June 2009 07:00 PM (Dane Young reporting)It's dinner time for the H.O.R.S.E. players. Monday, 15th of June 2009 06:00 PM (Dane Young reporting)
3 Black: A Black managed to fade trips and picked up a good pot to add to his stack. Monday, 15th of June 2009 05:00 PM (Dane Young reporting)A stroll through the Brasilia Room brings a lot of unknown faces as the field thins out over the second day of play. There are a few nice tables, however. One has James Van Alstyne, David Singer, Lacey Jones and Al Barbieri assembled on the back end. Unfortunately, we might be losing Sugar Bear, as he got smashed up by Rolando Lozano in Stud. Barbieri's board read 7 Barbieri led out again on the river and Lozano raised. Barbieri three'd it again, but this time Lozano capped. Barbieri threw in his call, disgusted, as his opponent said "flush," showing 8 "It's good," Barbieri said, gathering up his losing cards and staring down at his now dangerously-low stack. Annie Duke has been fired from this tournament (sorry). Andrew Black started out the day on a bad slide, but has rallied back to close to 60,000 chips, despite Paul Darden joining his table, also with a stack over 50,000. Monday, 15th of June 2009 04:00 PM (Dane Young reporting)The day continues and both Barry Greenstein and Anna Wroblewski are both out of the tournament. Marco Traniello is doing well, but he seems to be oblivious to how dirty his stacks are. An interesting phenomenon is occurring today, as tournament directors have been handing out penalties at a high rate for improper play. This is strange, considering that this is the second day of the tournament. Hopefully everyone can sort things out. Monday, 15th of June 2009 03:00 PM (Dane Young reporting)Action began shortly after 2 p.m. today in level 9. Barry Greenstein entered the day pretty short and things got worse quick. In Razz, Barry completed with the 9 Barry got one more bet in the pot on sixth street, but had to fold when he got a Queen face down and his opponent showed 75432, scooping the pot. Barry is in a tough spot with just 4,400 left. Meanwhile, Chad Brown and Vanessa Rousso both made the second day and are looking for deep runs as a family. Vanessa sits just one table behind Chad. 220 players return today to prove they’re not just a one trick pony. The $1,500 H.O.R.S.E. Event attracted some of poker’s finest thoroughbreds. Yesterday was about breaking out of the gate and today will be about getting into position for the home stretch. Only the final 72 finish in the money and get their cut of the $1,051,050 prize pool.
