Live coverage of the $25,000 WPT World Championship from the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
With the Foxwoods Poker Classic now in the books, there is only one event remaining on the World Poker Tour's Season VII schedule. After nearly four months on the road, the WPT is returning to Las Vegas for the $25,000 buy-in Season VII World Championship. From April 18th-25th, the Bellagio in Las Vegas will play host to the best in the game. Last year, 545 players coughed up the $25K for a shot at glory. There was more than $13 million in the prize pool and after six days at the tables, the title was Gus Hansen's to lose. Hansen would plow through the final table on the way to a heads-up confrontation with David Chiu, who sat patiently as the three-time WPT champ did all the heavy lifting. Of the 27 million or so chips in play, Chiu barely had 4 million to his name when it was time to go one-on-one with the "Great Dane". Over the next 50+ hands, Chiu would put together arguably the greatest heads-up comeback the WPT has ever seen. On the final hand, Hansen was all in holding 10-8 against an A 10 8 5 board for two pair. Chui would make the call, tabling A 9 for top pair and the spade re-draw. After the dealer placed the A on the felt, Chiu had made trips on the river to take the pot and the Season VII WPT World Championship, worth a whopping $3.38 million and a seat in this year's event.
Poker Pages will again be at the Bellagio, providing live coverage of the biggest WPT event of 2009. The cards will be in the air for Day 1 on Satuday, April 18th at noon Las Vegas time. See ya then! |
