Sunday, 29th of March 2009 12:53 AM So we're down to 26. But still going. First, it was Erica Schoenberg getting bounced in 28th. Former Main Event winner Tom McEvoy just sat down on her left and picked up 33. Erica would get it all in with AK. Schoenberg would take the lead after finding a king on the flop, but the turn would deliver the two outer. McEvoy's set of threes sent Erica home empty handed. Her father Ed was the first elimination of the day. Erica just about went out as the last elimination of the day.

| Gold and McEvoy | |
That was until they took a vote. It wasn't unanimous, but Jamie Gold was able to talk the floor into playing down to the money. We're now hand-for-hand. After two more players leave empty handed, the survivors will begin bagging and tagging for tomorrow, when the money gets handed out. We're going to let the bubble burst. We'll be back shortly with chip counts and all that good stuff once it's been released.
Sunday, 29th of March 2009 12:19 AM Down to just 34 players. Remember, only the top 25 will get paid. Currently, the plan is to play down to 27 players and quit for the day, but the MC has just announced that once they get to 27, they'll take a vote. If it's unanimous, they'll play down to the money before leaving. Scott Fischman just took a big hit. He got it in with kings, looking to hang on against QQ and a short-stack who tabled A-10. The flop would bring three little hearts... the pocket queens held the only heart. The turn would brick, but the 3 on the river was enough to force Fischman to ship 150K across the table to a member of the Three Amigos and eliminate the dude with A-10. Only four teams remain in Dream Team points chase.

| Ashley Nataupsky of Team Aced | |
Saturday, 28th of March 2009 11:33 PM Less than 50 players left. Only six of those are women, including our Erica Schoenberg. Another is Ashley Nataupsky, of Team Aced. Nataupsky had her 6-6 hold up vs A-K to push her to about 80K and eliminate a competitor. Shortly after, she would bully Mikon out of the way to push up towards 90K. On the next table over, Jamie Gold is sucking out for Team Aced. Gold recently moved in with A-5 preflop and ran into the A-K of Sebok. Of course, Sebok didn't catch the break and had to watch Gold flop a 5 and have it hold. Sebok would run his A-4 into A-Q a few hands later in a battle of the blinds, earning his elimination. Team Aced rolls on, but the last PokerRoad Radio straggler is now a goner. Bryan Mikon and John Regis were both sent home in the same hand by Gary Wieck of the Three Amigos. It was Mikon's A A , against Regis' J J and the K Q of Wieck. Wouldn't you know it, the two best hands didn't hold up. After the board ran out K Q 8 Q 3 , Mikon's aces and Regis' spade flush both fell to the full house of Wieck. Mikon and Regis are gone, while Wieck rolls on.

| Scott Fischman pulls in his double up | |
Scott Fischman was on his way to the rail, getting in dominated with A-4. He was down to 10 outs on the river, and picked one of those up in the shape of a 4. Fischman used his rivered pair of fours to double up to 100K.
Saturday, 28th of March 2009 10:31 PM We're down a couple notables, as Beth Shak and Phil Hellmuth have each been bounced from their table on the far side of the room. Hellmuth was down to about 40K and watched Bryan Mikon bump it to 40K in front of him. Hellmuth looked down at A-Q and decided to call off the rest of his stack. That was fine, until Mikon turned over A-K. No suprises on the board and Team Favorites are officially busto. There's only about a minute left in level 12. I believe they're going to send the players on another 10 min break. More updates after the cards are back in the air. Only 58 remain.
Saturday, 28th of March 2009 10:17 PM We're almost half way through level 12, with 2K-4K blinds and 500 antes. The board is showing 70 still seated, but I would guess we're a few below that.

| Gold and Sebok | |
Jamie Gold is applying pressure. Recently, the former Main Event winner was the recipient of a huge double up. After a J-10-8 flop, Gold watched his opponent come over the top, putting Gold at a decision for his whole stack, about 90K worth.Gold would tank, saying he put the guy on QQ. Then after looking at the size of the pot, figured he couldn't get away and called with AJ after five minutes or so of deliberation. Good decision. His opponent would turn over just Q-10 for mid pair. After the turn and river bricked, Gold, who made a deep run at the first Dream Team event last November, was up over 200K and right near the chip lead.
Saturday, 28th of March 2009 09:28 PM Somehow, level 10 is already over. It seems as if the level went faster than most, but we'll keep chugging along into level 11, with 1,500-3,000 blinds and 300 antes.

| Lubarsky and Pham | |
There are still alive. A handful of pros are sprinkled in with the crowd. Notables hanging on; Maria Ho, Young Pham, Michael Binger, Marsha Waggoner, legally blind Full Tilt pro Hal Lubarsky, Erica Schoenberg, Phil Hellmuth, Jamie Gold, Beth Shak and Thor Hansen.Hansen had been pushing his stack over 75K, but recently took a hit after his two pair (aces and deuces) were counterfeited on the river by a better aces up. Also, it was just announced that Hellmuth had doubled up. Looks like we're at nine tables, possibly preparing to condense to eight.
Saturday, 28th of March 2009 08:54 PM Play has resumed at Caesars. We have about 117 players still hanging onto chips. They'll now have to fight level 10, with 1K-2K blinds and 200 antes. Not much action going on inside, but the Las Vegas strip is packed... and dark. As of 8:30 pm local time, it's Earth Hour. All non-essential lights on the strip have been turned off, leaving the luminescent Strip colorless. It's not pitch dark, as cars, streetlights and a few signs are still lit, but an impressive sight none-the-less. Earth Hour is being celebrated all over the globe, so wherever you are, take a peak outside between 8:30-9:30. The cards are in the air. Time to trim this baby to just 27 players.
Saturday, 28th of March 2009 07:03 PM Players are now making their way out of the poker room as the dinner break has begun. Play will resume at 8:20-ish Vegas time. It looks like we've broke the 130 player mark, as a baker's dozen worth of tables are still battling. Just before the break, Jonathan little moved his short-stack in with A-J. Little was looked up by pocket nines. The pair held, meaning Little was gone. Maybe he had dinner plans.
Saturday, 28th of March 2009 06:45 PM Teddy "Iceman" Monroe was one of the latest to bust. The blingin' grinder got it in with pocket queens vs. tens. Then the dealer fanned out a couple more tens, giving the other player quads and Teddy the boot. The Iceman wasn't the only one to recently hit the rail, as Bay 101 runner-up Kathy Liebert, Mike Matusow, Jeff Madsen and Chris Masterson. Matusow's elimination means Hellmuth is the last of the Team Favorites still playing. Madsen and Masterson each ran king-rag and the rest of their chips into a player holding A-9. The ace-high played, meaning both the former WSOP Player of the Year and former Malcom in the Middle are done. Madsen's elimination paired with the bustout of Court Harrington means PokerRoad Radio is down to just Sebok. Dinner break will follow level 9. Survivors will get a 75 minute break in action. There are currently 145 still seated. Blinds are at 800-1600 with a 200 ante.

| Chop-chop | |
Saturday, 28th of March 2009 06:03 PM Blinds are up to 500-1000 with the same 100 antes. The board is showing 200 players, but they're now falling faster than the tournament staff can count. Among the notables to fall recently; Shannon Elizabeth, Tony Cousineau and . Shak is the last remaining member of Three's Company. Mike Matusow was thinking he would be joining them on the rail after his all in was met with a Bryan Mikon call. After each player turned over AK and the board missed both players, it was chop-chop and Matusow will continue to fight with Hellmuth for Team Favorites.

| Madsen in shock | |
Jeff Madsen has fallen. After seeing his big hands hold earlier in the day, the former WSOP Player of the Year had his AA cracked by 6-3 suited. The 3-K-3 flop left Madsen with just slightly more than his 10K starting stack.David Levy took a big hit after an ace-high flop. Levy would call of a lot of his stack with A-3, badly trailing his opponents set of aces. Levy had some spade outs, but wasn't able to connect and is now forced to rethink his strategy.

| Hellmuth and a blonde | |
Phil Hellmuth is still hanging around. He's been uncharactaristically quiet today. Just moments ago, Hellmuth was looking to knock out an opponent and score some chips for Team Favorites. Through the turn, Hellmuth's jacks were holding up against AK. But after the river, the Poker Brat's opponent found an ace to double through.Joe Sebok looks to be behind the biggest stack. The Bear's kid is sitting behind almost 100K, according to the MC. Theo Tran has dropped below the 60K mark, while Jeff Madsen is gaining ground. Madsen was able to boost his stack over 40K after his KK held up against KJ.

| Gazes says goodbye | |
Kristy Gazes isn't having as much luck. She ran her short stack and KQ into A9. The ace on the flop would do her in. It would also end the hopes of the cleverly named Six Hands, 4 Nuts and a Rack. Gazes can now join teammates Jerry Yang and Erik Aude on the rail.Blinds are currently at 400-800 with an ante of 100.
Saturday, 28th of March 2009 04:49 PM Liz Lieu was down to her last 5K. After the lady under the gun made it 1,800 to go, Liz came over the top with the rest of her stack. Another player would come along to see the 8-8-J-Q-K board. After the river Liz happily turned over her KK, having rivered a full house. Sadly, the Poker Diva had to watch the other lady at the table turn over 88, having flopped quads. Liz will join teammates Matt Stout and Quinn Do on the rail, meaning Team PokerListings won't be bringing home any cash.
It's just about break time. I may have spoke too soon, as it's not dinner break yet. Players will get about 20 mins off as the staff conducts a color up. There are 265 players still hanging around, give or take.It looks like Theo Tran may be our chip leader, with more than 75K. Thor Hansen just took a big pot off of Dr. Pauly, and others, and is sitting behind almost 60K of his own. We'll be back shortly.
Saturday, 28th of March 2009 04:02 PM Mekhi Phifer has been bounced at the hands of a WPT Player of the Year. Pfifer had been watching his stack dwindle, before deciding to move it in with Q-8. Right behind Phifer was Jonathan Little with pocket jacks and the call. Nothing happening as the board runs out. Little takes the pot. Phifer is now forced to cheer for Team Sole Survivors, Jake Chait and former NBA'er Chris Mills, from the rail. Theo Tran got it in with Q-high on a K-high board, then caught a runner-runner gut shot. In Theo-like fashion, Tran has screamed out of the gates and is currently one of the bigger stacks in the room. We have 329 players still seated. We'll need to see 302 more elimations before we're excused. Day 1 is scheduled to close after we reach 27 players. Those players will return Sunday, when they will crown a winner.

| Stout eyes Poker Kat and Miami John | |
The eliminations are coming quick. Most of them appear to be notable pros.Among those recently moved to the rail; Team Dennis' Dennis Phillips, Team Yance's Johnny Chan, Team Favorites' Jerry Buss and Team PokerListings' Matt Stout. Stout had been bleeding chips most of the day at a stacked table, before finally running his short stack into PokerRoad's Jeff Madsen. Stout would see his K-9 dominated by Madsen's A-9 all the way down, ultimately leading to his elimination. With Stout's teammate Quinn Do falling early in the tourney when his JJ got outflopped by 33, that leaves Liz Lieu as the last remaining Team PokerListings player. There are quite a few big stacks in the room, with Sebok and Matusow each sitting behind more than 30K. We've lost 100 players and counting, as the tournament clock is showing 244 still seated. We just jumped into level 5, with 50 antes and 200-400 blinds. After level 6, there will be a 75 min dinner break.
Saturday, 28th of March 2009 03:08 PM With 8 5 Q on the board, team WSOP Academy member Mark Gregorich got the rest of his stack in against Joe Sebok. When the cards were turned, it was Gregorich tabling the 7 9 for a flush draw and a gutshot. Sebok tabled A 6 , taking away any of Gregorich's flush outs. The table would erupt after the turn delivered the 8 , hitting Gregorich in his gut to take the lead. But the river would come 10 , giving the lead and the hand back to Sebok, who found the nut flush. Gregorich is gone.

| Eric Brewstein of Three's Company watches Sebok stack 'em | |
Also gone from Sebok's table is Paul Wasicka. Wasicka spent the afternoon on Sebok's left, but was bounced just moments before the break. Eric Brewstein is watching Sebok rake and is hoping his Three's Company teammates, Shannon Elizabeth and Beth Shak, are doing better than he is. They are.Across the room, Pokerati Dan of Team Tao of Pokerati ran his short stack into A K holding a couple of club rags. Dan would find the flush draw on the flop, but couldn't connect on the turn and river, leaving Dr. Pauly and Shane Schleger to fend for themselves.
Saturday, 28th of March 2009 02:30 PM It's just about break time, but we do have some prize pool info for you. It's not 170, but 148 teams that showed up today. That means 444 total players. There is more than $220,000 in prize money up for grabs. About $133K will be split among the top seven teams. The eventual Dream Team will get right around $60K. The individual event winner will pocket $24K of the $90K individual prize pool, which is to be split between the top 25 finishers. Players will get 10 minutes off, before returning at about 2:45 Vegas time for level 4 and 150-300 blinds.
Saturday, 28th of March 2009 02:16 PM I've already mentioned a few Poker Pages bloggers in Dennis Phillips of Team Dennis, and Erica Schoenberg and "Hollywood" Dave Stann of team El Diablo. Also in the field are TJ Cloutier and Kenna James. The latter seems glued to the NCAA tourney game on the TV.

Cloutier, on the other hand, probably wished he had a TV to distract him. Just moments ago, TJ ran his KK into AA and failed to suck out, costing the living legend the rest of his chips.Mike Matusow has just been moved into the main tournament room. He immediately showed the table how serious he's taking this tourney. Actioned folded around to Matusow, who made it 600 to go from middle position. From the cutoff, a player raised it up to 3,000. It folded back around to the Mouth, who asked "why so much?" "Because I got you beat," answered the cutoff. "Well, can't argue with the guy who says he's got me beat," said Matusow, as he mucked 9-9 face up. Blinds are now at 100-200. In about half an hour, players will be let out on their first break of the day. The tournament board is showing just 410 players still alive.

| Cousineau and Bonomo | |
Saturday, 28th of March 2009 01:47 PM A couple world champs are sharing a table. Jamie Gold not only has to deal with back-to-back Main Event winner Johnny Chan, but somehow has to dodge the lovely Liv Boeree. Justin Bonomo, last year's 10th-place finisher and part of defending Dream Team champs Team Bluff, has picked up where he left off. At last passing, Bonomo was scooping a couple thousand at the expense of Tony Cousineau and a couple others.

| Shannon Elizabeth and Mekhi Phifer | |
On the next table over, movie stars Mekhi Phifer and Shannon Elizabeth were tangling. Mekhi called an Elizabeth preflop raise to 350 to see the J-8-7 flop. Mekhi led out for 500 after the flop and Shannon called to see a 3 turn. She would call another 725 to see another 3 river. This time, betting went check-check and Phifer announced he "had the jack". But, Elizabeth tabled K J , outkicking the J 10 of Mekhi. We've had our first team bow out. Within seconds, David Williams and Matt Giannetti, members of The Slackers, each went busto. A few minutes later, Nenad Medic, the third and final Slacker, shipped it blind with Q-6, right into AK. Big Slick would hold, meaning the Slackers have the rest of the weekend open. Also, Jerry Yang just came over to the media table to announce he's gone as well.

| Ed Schoenberg tells his bad beat story | |
Saturday, 28th of March 2009 01:11 PM They're dropping like flies. Well, not really, but we've already seen about a half dozen sent packing. The first was Ed Schoenberg, father of Erica and member of the El Diablos. He picked up A-10 and shipped it after an A-J-10 flop, only to find his two pair were no good. Ed has left the hopes of El Diable resting solely on his teammates, daughter Erica and "Hollywood" Dave Stann. Not far behind Ed for first bustout was John Brazil of the Poker Junkies and Jay Grinsbach from The Wheel. Joe Sebok will start the day dealing with Paul Wasicka, Mark Gregorich and Eric of No Limit Management. On the first hand, Sebok took a pot from Gregorich when his KK held up vs. JJ. Celebs Shannon Elizabeth and Mekhi Phifer will start the day playing with two-time WPT champ Jonathan little and Ryan Mikon. David Williams has Justin Young and Maria Ho on his immediate left. Right in front of media row sits Phil Hellmuth, part of Team Favorites with Mike Matusow and Lakers owner Jerry Buss. Hellmuth will have his hands full with Team Pokerlisting's Quinn Do and Marsha Waggoner on the Poker Brat's felt.
In the main poker room, Dennis Phillips and fellow 2008 Main Event stud Jeremiah Smith have already squared off in couple pots. On the last go around, Dennis was forced to check down the flop and river holding QQ against an A-K-J-x-x board. After Smith showed K-3 for a pair of kings, Phillips watched his preflop raise and turn bet get shipped across the table, along with the rest of the pot.The price of poker is going up. Blinds are now at 50-100.
Saturday, 28th of March 2009 12:34 PM Dream Team CEO Daniel Delshad, his father Jimmy Delshad, the mayor of Beverly Hills, and Las Vegas Congresswoman Shelley Berkley have announced shuffle up and deal. Time to get it on. A half hour late, but pretty standard as far as tourneys go. Players will begin the day with 10,000 chips. Levels will last 40 mins, with the first starting at 25-50. Everyone will start extremely deep stacked, but with the cheap buy-in, don't be surprised to see some fireworks. I'll be back shortly with some action.
Saturday, 28th of March 2009 11:57 AM We are just minutes from the start of the second-ever Dream Team Poker tournament. The poker room at Caesars is choked up with their regular poker room traffic and 170 or so teams of three. The buy-in is just $500+$50 per player, but that hasn't scared away any of the high rollers, as some of the biggest names in the game will be sharing the felt with Tom, Dick and Harry.
Each team has been given their own Dream Team baseball jersey. Inside the tournament room, two walls are covered with jerseys of each team. From the looks of it, they'll bring the jerseys down as the teams fall by the wayside.Typical NLHE rules apply. Only twist, individual winners will split the prize money with the top teams. When a player busts, you will get a score based on how many players you outlasted. Teams will throw out the lowest of three scores, with the winning team getting not only prize money, but championship rings and the right to call themselves the Dream Team. It doesn't look like we'll quite be starting on time, but I'll be back with some updates and a list of notables after the cards are in the air. |
