Poker Pro MJ Bernstein's Blog

As per my usual, I've stuck around Borgata a few days after my tournament to unwind a little. I've relaxed some and I have also had a chance to push forward some poker related things I'm working on. I will go into more detail when my partners and I are further along. My intention was to leave Friday and head up to Foxwoods but my plans have changed unfortunately as you will see below.

Winner!

Today, I received both good and bad news. The good news is that my friend, Mike "goleafsgoeh" Leah, took down the Borgata deep stack at around 3 a.m. this morning. Mike outlasted 900+ people and was paid $319,536.00 for his efforts. After I got knocked out late in day 1B, I was pretty damn disappointed. However, I also knew that Mike was the chip leader from day 1A and I guess I was hoping he we would win at this point. Like I said before, he has been playing a monster A-game, running well and it's just really well deserved. Great job, kid. After I clear my head of some things, I look forward to mixing it up with you at Foxwoods ME and/or the WSOP.

Anyway, the bad news I got is that Vilma is not doing too good. She never left the hospital and has been in the ICU for the last couple of days with an infection. She is fighting really hard and I know she can beat this but it's proving to be really difficult. My GF, Daiva, is also sick with a cold and all of this is just taking a lot out of her and I feel really bad. So, I'm going to go back to Chicago for a week or two to be with them. I will try to get back for Foxwoods ME because that's an important event for me to play.

All in all nothing has worked out how I planned so far. I should have skipped Caesars and gone straight to Foxwoods. Although there is nothing I can do about that now, it looks like I will miss most of Foxwoods too. Family comes first, though, and that's just the way it goes. I'll tell you one thing, you would be losing money if you bet against me in the next few months going into the summer. When crazy things like this happen to me, it just makes me stronger and more determined. I want two more 1st place finishes this year and I will do whatever it takes to make that happen. I really look forward to feeling focused again.

Once again, I want to thank everyone for their donations and prayers for Vilma and her family.

See you at the tables,

MJ
