Kai Landry - 1st place
Wednesday, 04th of February 2009 07:59 PM

On the turn with the board showing K 4 T A, Kai bet 50k, David raised to 150k, Kai moved all-in, and David called all-in. Kai held QJ off for the Broadway straight. David rolled over J 7 for the gutshot royal draw and flush draw. He needed a Queen to chop or any diamond to win. The river was the 6 and it is over!

Kai Landry finished in 1st place, earning $183,974, a $10k seat in the 2009 WSOP Main Event, (with $1k in travel money) and the gold circuit championship ring.

David Dao finished in 2nd place, earning $117,744.

David was born in Vietnam, but now lives in Elizabethtown, KY. He's 60-years-old and has been playing poker seriously for about 4 years.

Kai lives in Biloxi, MS. He mixes his tournaments with cash games and plays lots of the daily events in Biloxi, but this is by far his first major tournament score.

Wednesday, 04th of February 2009 07:52 PM

On a flop of 6 6 2, David and Kai got all the chips in the middle. David held pocket 4s. Kai held pocket Queens and was way ahead. David would need one of two remaining 4s to bust Kai, but the last two came 2 J and Kai doubled up to ~2.2 million. David was left with about 800k.

Matt Stout - 3rd place
Wednesday, 04th of February 2009 07:25 PM

Hand 164: Kai and Matt got all the chips in the middle. Kai held pocket 7s and Matt held AQ off. The board came 9 6 4 5 7 and Kai's hand held up. The stacks were close and had to be counted down. Matt hadn 697k and Kai had 708k, so Kai had Matt covered.

Matt 'Allinat420' Stout finished in 3rd place, earning $73,590.

Matt is a professional poker player from Atlantic City, NJ.  He won a preliminary circuit event at Caesar's Atlantic City, in March, 2008, and has several 5-figure cashes, but has yet to take down a 6-figure payout (in live events).  This is his largest single cash to date.

At the beginning of heads-up play, Kai has about 1.4 million to David's 1.6 million.

Kai Landry
Wednesday, 04th of February 2009 07:18 PM

Hand 158: Kai shoved from the button and Matt made the call, showing K Q. Kai held K 9 and was dominated. The flop came A J 8 and it changed nothing. Turn was the 8 which gave Kai a flush draw. He would need a 9 or club on the river to survive. River was....the K giving Kai the flush and the double-up.

The final three had settled into a rhythm of 'raise and take it' or 'limp and check it to showdown'. Then there was a little flurry of action:

Hand 113: Kai raised to 40k, Matt called from the small, then LB moved all-in from the big. Both players called and checked down the board of J 8 6 T T. LB held A7 off for Ace-high, but Kai showd 65 suited for a pair of 6s to take the pot.

Hand 106:  All four players saw the flop for the minimum:  9 3 2.  LB (sb) checked, Kai bet 25k, the other two folded and LB called.  Turn was the 3  and both checked.  River was the 7 and LB fired 70k.  Kai called and LB showed Q3 off for trip 3s.  Kai mucked and LB took the pot.
