Clint Schafer - shafted
Tuesday, 09th of December 2008 01:06 AM

In a three-way all-in, Clint Schafer was ahead with pocket 9s. William Payne held AJ offsuit, and seat 7 held JT suited and was the short-stack. The board came J T T 8 8 giving seat 7 the triple-up with Tens-full. William Payne took the side pot with Jacks-up and Clint Schafter got the early out, busting in 34th place.

Level 8 came to a close with 33 players remaining. They are counting and bagging their chips now. Chip counts will be posted here shortly.

Players took a vote and decided to return at 2pm Tuesday for day two.

Tuesday, 09th of December 2008 12:23 AM

Jena Delk couldn't hold on any longer and has departed, leaving nothing but dudes in this event.

35 players remain at four tables. Average stack is now over 58,800.

William Payne is just crushing it -- he's now up to ~230k.

Bach Vu
Tuesday, 09th of December 2008 12:02 AM

After everyone folded to him on the button, Matt Brady moved in for 17,300. BJ McBrayer called from the small blind and Corrie 'slim' Wunstel released his big blind. BJ showed pocket Tens. Matt, who had not looked at his cards, turned over 5 2. The board came 7 4 2 9 4 and Matt couldn't catch up. He was busted while BJ chipped up to ~110k.

Bach Vu shoved and got the lookup from seat 9 on the button, who had fewer chips. Bach showed pocket Kings (both red) and was leading his opponent's A Q. The flop came K T 7 giving Bach a set of Kings, but giving his opponent some outs with a gutshot. It was all over when the T hit the turn, giving Bach the full house and the pot while sending his opponent to the rail.

Monday, 08th of December 2008 11:50 PM

Level 8: Blinds 600/1,200 with 200 antes. Play has resumed.

Monday, 08th of December 2008 11:35 PM

End of level 7 and players are enjoying their last break of the day.

Brandon Jarrett will not be returning after the break, as he busted out just before.

Dan Schmiech - doomed
Monday, 08th of December 2008 11:20 PM

Dan Schmiech moved his last chips in and got looked up by Brandon Jarrett. Dan's QJ offsuit was behind Brandon's AK off, then an Ace hit the flop and Dan's chances got slimmer. The board ran out A 7 7 K 9 and Brandon took the pot, sending Dan to the rail.

Herbie Montalbano, Rodney Corr, and Ed Corrado have also been dispatched.

44 players remain. Average stack is over 46,800.

Jason Young (he's drunk so that's why he's blurry)
Monday, 08th of December 2008 10:50 PM

After one limper, seat 4 raised to 3,500. Matt Brady then kicked it on up another 5,300. The limper got out of the way and the original raiser moved all in. Matt went into the tank...

Meanwhile, on the next table over, Jason Young got his last chips in with AJ offsuit against William Payne's pocket 6s. Jason was thrilled when he saw the Ace in the door, but when the dealer spread the flop, there was a 6 right behind it, giving William the set. Another Ace hit the turn giving Jason some hope with trip Aces against Wilpay's sixes-full, but the river was an 8 and Jason was busted.

Back to Matt Brady, who mucked his hand, surrendering the pot. He was left with about 19k.

Monday, 08th of December 2008 10:20 PM

Level 7: Blinds 400/800 with 100 antes. Play has resumed.

Jutsin Allen has quietly snuck into the chip lead in the back of the room. He's sitting on about 145k. Here are some rough chip counts from the break and early in level 7:

Monday, 08th of December 2008 10:01 PM

Jason Young got his short-stack in with pocket 2s against AK. The board bricked out and Jason doubled up to about 12k. Philip Sparta got his chips in with pocket Queens against the pocket Jacks of Jena Delk. His Queens held up and he doubled through, leaving Jena with fewer than 20k chips.

On the turn with the board showing K J 6 4 BJ McBrayer (sb) bet 10k. Matt Brady (button) went into the tank. The timer for level six ran out and Matt stayed in the tank for a couple of minutes, then let his hand go. He's down to about 22k.

Nick Binger, Mike 'GoLeafsGoEh' Leah, and Glenn Kelly have all reported to the rail.

End of level 6 and players are taking a break as they color up the green 25 chips.

McLean Karr - kicked to the kurb
Monday, 08th of December 2008 09:42 PM

After William Payne limped utg, McLean Karr shoved his last ~14k in. Wilpay looked him up, showing pocket 4s. McLean held A T and it was post-time at the races. The flop came 8 6 3 giving McLean the nut-flush-draw to go with his two overs. The last two peeled off J 9, however, and McLean was busted. With that pot, Wilpay chipped up to ~125k, extending his chip lead.

Jena Delk
Monday, 08th of December 2008 09:31 PM

Jena Delk (hijack) fired 6k on the flop of K 9 8. William 'wilpay' Payne (cutoff) called. Turn was the 6 and Jena fired 7,500. Wilpay called. River was the 2. Jena reached for chips, then put them down and thought for about half a minute before betting 12k. Wilpay tanked for a looooong time. So long that the guys at the other end of the table (Jason Young & Philip Sparta) did some shots while waiting. Eventually, William made the call. Jena showed J 9 for just a pair of 9s. After a few seconds, William rolled over K Q for a pair of Kings and the winner. Jena expressed her displeasure at being slow-rolled. William said he thought he was beat and it took him a few seconds to realize he wasn't. He apologized profusely as he stacked the large pot. After that hand, Wilpay was up to about 95k and the chip leader once again.

Jeremy Gaubert
Monday, 08th of December 2008 09:03 PM

With the board showing T 5 3 5 3 Larry Elliott fired a final shell, which Herbie Montalbano quickly called. Larry said "King-high" and Herbie showed AK for 'nut-no-pair' to take the pot.

Jeremy Gaubert checked the flop of Q 6 3 -- all spades -- and Tyler Smith checked behind him. Turn was the 3 and Jeremy bet 2,000. Tyler called. River was the 9 and both players checked. Jeremy showed Q J for a pair of Queens. Tyler mucked and Jeremy pulled the pot.

On a flop of K J 7 Chris Lovelace moved all-in. Larry Elliott called quickly, showing K Q for top pair. Chris tabled A K for top pair with a better kicker, along with the nut-flush-draw. Larry said "I guess I need a Queen" to which Chris responded "Give him the Queen, of clubs". Neither of Larry's two outs appeared and he was drawing dead when the 5 hit the turn. River was the J and Chris doubled up, leaving the former chip leader with about 24,000 chips.

End of level 5 and players have headed out for another break.

Michael Binger was one of the casualties of level 5.

David Fox
Monday, 08th of December 2008 08:08 PM

Jena Delk is up to about 55k after making quad 4s to bust a player holding big slick.

David Fox got all-in on a board of 9 6 2 9 against a player holding A9 (trip 9s). David held pocket 2s for ducks-full of 9s. When a 4 hit the river, David doubled up to, coincidentally, about 55k.

David Diaz
Monday, 08th of December 2008 07:45 PM

The chips are definitely flying since the dinner break!

David Diaz limped, seat 6 limped, Toma Saman limped, then seat 1 (sb) raised 2,000 on top. David called, seat 6 folded, and Toma called. The flop rolled out J 9 9 and seat 1 fired 4,000. David folded and Toma called. Turn was another Jack, double-pairing the board. Seat 1 checked to Toma, who fired 5,000. Seat 1 folded and Toma pulled the nice pot.

After Bill Hobbs (utg) limped, Cory Albertson raised to 1k. Seat 7 called, Larry Elliott called, Herbie Montalbano called from the small blind, the big blind called, and Bill came along for the ride. On the flop of 8 7 6 it was checked to Bill, who moved all-in. Cory opted out, then seat 7 made the call. Everyone else got out of the way. Bill showed pocket 9s (both black) for the over-pair with open-ender. Seat 7 held 8 4 for top pair with a flush draw. Bill would have to dodge all the spades, 8s and 4s to survive -- which he did as the last two rolled out 6 K. Bill doubled up.

Kyle Bowker couldn't pull himself out of the spiral and busted out.  Adeeb Harb has also reported to the rail.

Level 4 is a wrap and the 75 survivors have taken off for dinner. Play will resume at 7:15pm.

Matt Brady
Monday, 08th of December 2008 05:26 PM

On a flop of Q 9 6 Matt Brady checked to the button, who bet 1,600. Matt called and the turn was the 4. Again Matt checked and the button fired 3,000. Matt said "For some reason, I think you're trying to outplay me". Nevertheless, Matt eventually folded. His opponent flashed a Queen (top pair).

On the turn, the board read T 6 3 K and Fred Sigur fired 2,000. Larry Elliott, who had Fred well covered, announced all-in. Fred let it go.

On a final board of T 7 3 9 T, Bach Vu (bb) bet 1,025 and Brandon Jarrett made the call. Bach rolled over T4 off for trip tens to take the pot.

80 players remain. Average stack is 25,750.

Ken Norman
Monday, 08th of December 2008 05:02 PM

Players seem to be playing cautiously as they are anticipating the dinner break, which will be at the end of this level.

On a flop of J 6 2 Adeeb Harb moved all in. His opponent folded.

Philip Sparta raised to 600 utg and got two callers. They all checked the flop of A K 9 then checked the turn, which was the 7. River was the K and Philip fired a bet -- the other two folded.

Ken Norman (bb) checked the flop of A 8 3 and his opponent checked behind. Turn was the 4 and again both checked. River was the 9 and Ken bet 1,000. He got the call and showed A 3 for two pair. His opponent mucked and Ken scored the pot.

Larry Elliott
Monday, 08th of December 2008 04:05 PM

Rivered Boats seem to be the order of the day today. On a final board of A 6 3 J J, Bach Vu bet 1,600 and got paid off by Glenn Kelly. Bach showed J6 for the full boat.

Larry Elliott bet 1,500 on the river with a board of Q T 6 Q 8, then showed his opponent Q8 for the full boat.

Gabe Costner has busted out, as has Wilbur Futhey.

88 players remain.

Timothy 'TK' Miles - Aces kracked
Monday, 08th of December 2008 03:47 PM

Jason Young caught a double up when his pocket Kings held up. Timothy 'TK' Miles was not so lucky with his pocket Aces. Glenn Kelly got all in on the flop and TK couldn't get away from his rockets. Glenn had flopped a set and doubled through TK, leaving him with just a couple of chips, which were all in on the next hand. He busted out near the middle of level 3. TK usually does better here in New Orleans. He won a preliminary here at the Circuit Event last December and finished 2nd in the Main Event here in May 2008.

Claudia Crawford has also busted out, leaving Jena Delk as the last woman sitting. Jena won the Ladies Event here back in May 2008.

Monday, 08th of December 2008 03:26 PM

Chef Paul Prudhomme got his last few chips in the middle against Ed Corrado and came up short, busting out early in level 3.  93 players remain, making the average stack about 22,150.

The final player count for this event is 103. That makes the total prize pool $499,550. The final 18 players will get paid as follows:

End of level 2 and players are taking 15.

Adeeb Harb
Monday, 08th of December 2008 02:30 PM

At the river, the board read K K 2 T 8 and there was about 1,500 in the pot. Adeeb Harb (bb) bet 5,000 and Jason Smith tanked, muttering about how the bet was so big compared to the pot. He finally made the call and Adeeb showed pocket 8s for the rivered full house. Jason showed a King (trips) as he mucked his hand and pitched a small fit about getting rivered.

Chef Paul Prudhomme
Monday, 08th of December 2008 02:01 PM

On a final board of J 9 4 3 3 Fred Sigur (sb) checked it over to Dan Schmiech, who fired 2,100. Fred thought for a few seconds, then let it go.

In a bizarre hand on table 54, Claudia Crawford, one of only two ladies playing today, was betting all the way, until the fourth heart fell on the river. She checked it over to Chris Gurney, who made a bet. She mucked her two black Queens face up, surrendering to the obvious flush. Chris showed pocket 2s with the 2 to take the pot with the lowest possible flush.

On a flop of J 4 2 Chef Paul Prudhomme moved all in for 4,950 into a pot of only about 900. Chef Paul had invited the players at his table to come to his restaurant, K-Paul's Louisiana Kitchen, for a free drink. Jason Young (bb) asked if he would still get his free drink if he busted the Chef. Paul was not saying a word as Jason continued to prod for information. Jason finally released his hand and Chef Paul pulled the pot.

Monday, 08th of December 2008 01:31 PM

Level 2: Blinds 50/100. Play has resumed.

Monday, 08th of December 2008 01:16 PM

Brandon Jarrett

End of level 1 and players are taking 15.

Just before the break, Brandon Jarrett dodged a bullet -- two of them, actually. After the utg player opened for 125, Brandon (hijack) raised to 1,750. Then the button pushed the bet up to 10,000. After a bit of time in the tank, the utg player folded. Then Brandon spent some time in the tank, eventually mucking his pocket Kings face-up. The button showed pocket Aces. Good laydown, Brandon!

Monday, 08th of December 2008 01:05 PM

Nick Binger

At the river with two 7s on the board, David 'Dr. Fox' Fox said "I don't see how my Queens can be good" as he rolled over pocket Queens. "They aren't" said Nick Binger, as he rolled over pocket 7s for quads to take the pot.

Nick's brother Michael is also playing today. Other players in the house: Matt Brady, Dan Schmiech, Ed Corrado, Tim Miles, Brandon Jarrett, Wilbur Futhey, Clint Schafer, Fred Sigur, WSOP bracelet holder Jason Young, former NBA player Ken 'the Snake' Norman, and Chef Paul Prudhomme.

Unfortunately, Lou 'the Big Easy' Esposito did not make the trip and will not be playing today.

Monday, 08th of December 2008 12:01 PM

Level 1: Blinds 25/50. Cards are flying here in New Orleans! Players are starting with a generous 20,000 in chips and levels will be 75 minutes long.

Registration will remain open until the end of level one, but right now the player count is 79.

Day 1 action gets underway at noon central time on Monday, December 8th.
