2008 Caesars Palace Classic $10K Championship from Las Vegas - Day 2 Summary

After a noon to 2 a.m. session on Tuesday, 166 Caesars Palace Classic hopefuls showed up Wednesday for another 14-hour session at the poker tables.  While they didn't quite make it down to the final table, they popped the money bubble and trimmed the field to two tables.

All but 27 of the 311 entrants will leave the CPC championship empty handed.

Luke Staudenmaier and Michael Watson
Pay structure:

  • 1 -- $1,000,000
  • 2 -- $520,320
  • 3 -- $266,073
  • 4 -- $206,946
  • 5 -- $177,382
  • 6 -- $147,818
  • 7 -- $118,255
  • 8 -- $88,691
  • 9 -- $59,127
  • 10-12 -- $35,746
  • 13-15 -- $29,654
  • 16-18 -- $23,651
  • 19-27 -- $17,738
  • Total entries -- 311

The blinds eventually caught up to the deep stacks (100K to start), and the within a matter of levels, play was down to four tables and the bubble was in sight.  Ryan Young brought a big chip lead into Day 2, but couldn't make it past the dinner break.  Poker Pages blogger Erica Schoenberg would get a head start on her me, since she busted as well.

After play resumed, players like Allen Kessler, James Van Alstyne, Scotty Nguyen and Chad Brown fell short of the money.  Luke Staudenmaier trailed only Ryan Young in the counts to start the day, but the WPT Bellagio Cup final tabler was forced to move with a week ace, only to run into the pocket eights of Jamie Rosen, unsuccessfully.  Bellagio Cup winner Mike Watson once again shared the felt with Staudenmaire, but the two would soon share the rail short of the money.

The title of bubble boy belongs to Scott Epstein.  He got it in with QQ, at risk agains the A9 of Mike Kamran.  Kamran would find trip nines on the flop and fill up on the turn to eliminate Epstein and gain 26 new friends.

  • 21 --    William Heimiller,    Henderson, NV --        17,738
  • 22 --    Tony Ma,        S. El Monte, CA     --    17,738

That just leaves us with two, almost-full tables:

Daniel "Rekrul" Schreiber

        Table 36:
  • Seat 1 -- Daniel "Rekrul" Schreiber -- 3,465,000
  • Seat 2 -- Joseph Cordi -- 930,000
  • Seat 3 -- Brent Roberts -- 915,000
  • Seat 4 -- Michael Kamran -- 2,000,000
  • Seat 5 -- Kevin Albers -- 1,265,000
  • Seat 6 -- Carter Gill -- 990,000
  • Seat 7 -- Adam Junglen -- 1,270,000
  • Seat 8 -- Sabyl Cohen-Landrum -- 3,030,000
  • Seat 9 -- John Hennigan -- 1,380,000
  • Seat 10 -- Hevad "Rain" Khan -- 4,920,000

Mike Sexton

        Table 56:
  • Seat 1 -- Mike Sexton -- 920,000
  • Seat 2 -- Ray Qartmoy -- 325,000
  • Seat 3 -- Van Nguyen -- 875,000
  • Seat 4 -- Michael Fantini -- 1,430,000

  • Seat 8 -- Jamie "TheChronic420" Rosen -- 1,450,000
  • Seat 9 -- Jonathan "FatalError" Aguiar -- 1,520,000
  • Seat 10 -- Michael Katz -- 1,815,000

Hevad "Rain" Khan
Leading the way is Hevad Khan, with just under 5 million chips.  The 2007 WSOP Main Event final tabler was nearing 6 million after the bubble burst, but fell to earth a bit before bag and tag time.  Right on Khan's back is fellow professional video gamer Daniel Schreiber.  The Starcraft wiz earned a bracelet by taking down the 2007 Heads-up event, but will have to look across the dealer at Khan's monster stack to start the day.

As if there weren't enough chips at their table, Sabyl Cohen-Landrum will share the Table 36 felt and sit behind 3 million chips to start the day.  They'll have to keep a close eye on their stacks, as former WPT winner John "World" Hennigan, as well as online regulars Adam Junglen and Carter Gill, may be jumping at the chance to double through.

On the other table, Mike Sexton headlines a lineup featuring WPT Invitational winner Van Nguyen, along with online pros Jamie Rosen and Jonathan Aguiar, who each made a splash at this summer's WSOP.

Players will return Thursday at 2 p.m. PST, as the last 19 play all the way down to find the $1 million winner.
