Matt Graham - 28th place

Amit Makhija got his chips all in the middle on the turn with action from Trong Nguyen. Amit had turned a straight. Trong held two pair. The river changed nothing and Amit doubled up.

Matt Graham got his last chips in with AK off and ran into Kyle Wilson's pocket Kings. The board came Jack-high and Matt was busted.

Matt Graham finsihed in 28th place, earning $14,085.

That's if for the day. 27 players remain and the chips counts will be posted here when available.

Apparenly Paul Smith is the chip leader with 946k.  Amit Makhija is second with 842k.  Layne Flack is third with 807k.

Day 4 will get underway at 2pm Wednesday.  The final 27 will play until the TV final table of six is set.

Tuesday, 26th of August 2008 11:31 PM

Mark Wilds - 29th place

Layne Flack moved in on the Q 9 6 flop and got action from Tan Le. Layne held K 9 for the flush draw and middle pair. Tan held A Q for top pair. The turn was the 8 completing Layne's flush, but giving Tan a redraw to the nut flush. River was the 6, however, and Layne doubled up.

Adam Weinraub got his chips in with QT suited and Raymond Voskanian looked him up with KJ offsuit. A Ten hit the board giving Adam the pot and the double-up.

Philip Stark was another short-stack getting his chips in pre-flop. His AJ ran into AQ, but he caught a Jack on the board to double-up.

John Phan opened for 28k and Mark Wilds shoved for 118k. John tanked for a while, then finally called, showing A8. Mark held A7 suited and was badly dominated. The board came K J 8 Q J and John took the pot, sending Mark home.

Mark Wilds finished in 29th place, earning $14,085.

With Mark's departure, 28 players remain, which means they are at the money-jump and end of day bubble. Play will be hand-for-hand until one more busts.

Justin Scott - 30th place

After being crippled when his Aces got cracked earlier, Justin got his last chips in against Paul Smith again. This time Justin held KJ suited against Paul's pocket 9s. The board brought no help for Justin and he was done.

Justin Scott finished in 30th place, earning $14,085.

Adam Weinraub got his last chips in with pocket Aces with action from Layne Flack, who held JT off. The board came A K T 3 T and Adam's set of Aces held off Layne to double him up to about 60k.

On a 7 6 4 flop, Maria Ho check-raised Jim Hofhetaz all-in. Jim tanked, then decided to fold. Maria showed pocket 4 for the set.

Level 16 came to a close with 29 players still in the mix. They've earned 15 minutes away from the felt.

Tuesday, 26th of August 2008 10:18 PM

Josh Vanduyn - 32nd place

Josh Vanduyn got all in against Jim Hofhetaz. Josh's pocket Jacks were ahead of Jim's pocket 6s, but then a 6 hit the board, giving Jim the pot with a set. Jim chipped up to ~420k.

Josh Vanduyn finished in 32nd place, earning $14,085.

Philip Stark moved in and got action from Adam Weinraub. Philip held pocket Tens and Adam's pocket Kings were ahead. The in a crushing beat, the board came Q T T K 8 giving Adam the full house, but giving Philip quads. Adam was left with less than 40k.

Max Pescatori - 31st place

Zachary Clark opened for 22k and Max Pescatori pushed it on up to 64k from the small blind. Zach moved in for 209k and after a bit of thought, Max looked him up. Zach's pocket Jacks were way ahead of Max's pocket 8s. The board changed nothing and Max was left with less than 10k.

Max got those last chips in with AT against Amit Makhija's pocket 7s. No help for Max this time either and he was busted.

Max Pescatori finished in 31st place, earning $14,085.

Paul Smith got all in with pocket Kings against Justin Scott's pocket Aces. The cards ran out 6 5 4 6 K and Paul caught the two-outer on the river to to take the pot, doubling up to ~950k, good for the chip lead. Justin was left with ~150k.

Tuesday, 26th of August 2008 09:53 PM

James Sileo

On the turn with a board of K 9 4 7, Kirk Conrad got all in against Adam Weinraub. Kirk held pocket 7s for the set. Adam held pocket 4s for a lower set and only one out -- the case 4. It did not come on the river and Kirk doubled up to ~420k.

Maria Ho moved in over the top of Kyle Wilson's opening raise. Kyle called, showing KQ off. Maria held AQ off. The board came K T 4 8 J and although Kyle caught a pair, there were four diamonds on the board and Maria held the A. Maria doubled up to ~190k. I guess diamonds are a girls best friend.

On the turn with a board of 9 8 7 Q, James Sileo moved in and Ron Jenkins made the call. James held pocket Aces and was ahead. Ron held pocket 6s for the open-ender. The river brought the 5, completing Ron's straight and the suckout.

James Sileo finished in 33rd place, earning $14,085.

Sirous Baghchehsaraie - Sirous B, for short

Justin Scott opened for 24k utg+1 and it was folded to Trong Nguyen on the button, who raised another 100k on top. Justin thought about it for a bit, then moved all-in for 146 more. Trong called, showing AK off. Justin held pocket Tens. The board came Q 7 2 4 3 and Justin doubled through.

On the flop of Q T 4 three players checked. Turn was the 5 and Allen Cunningham (bb) bet 20k. Adam Weinraub (button) called. The big blind folded. River was a 7 and Allen bet 60k. Adam moved all in and after a quick peek back at his cards, Allen called all-in. Adam held 9 8 for the flush. Allen held A 7 for the stone-cold nuts. He said he had to make sure before calling. His all-in was for 172k (including his 60k bet) and he doubled up.

Sirous Baghchehsaraie got all in against Matt Graham. Sirous' pocket Tens were ahead of Matt's 87 suited. The board came 7 5 4 A 5 and Sirous doubled up to ~170k.

Tuesday, 26th of August 2008 09:27 PM

Kevin Zhu - 34th place

On the turn with the board showing A 7 6 5, Lee Markholt bet 100k and Kevin Zhu moved in. Lee called, showing Kevin the bad news -- Lee had pocket 7s for the set. Kevin's A 3 (top pair, flush draw, gutshot) would need to improve. The river was the 8 which was not one of Kevin's outs and he was ousted.

Kevin Zhu finished in 34th place, earning $14,085.

Lee Markholt picked up another pot soon after with a bet on the turn. With that pot, he is up to 800k.

Ali Eslami - slammed

Ali Eslami pushed his remaining chips out on the button -- but forgot the 1k chip on top of his cards. Takashi Shiono called the 60k bet and the flop came Q 8 7 rainbow. They get the last 1k in Ali showed AQ for top pair. Takashi rolled over pocket Kings for the lead. The last two cards were J 3 and Ali Eslami, busted in 37th place, becoming today's bubble boy.

The remaining 36 players are all in the money. Hand-for-hand play is done.

Andrew Shack - 35th place

Van Nguyen has been hanging on by a thread through the bubble and then got her last 25k in and called by Sirous Baghchehsaraie in the big blind. Van held T8 off and Sirous held J2 suited. The board came A K Q K 2 and Sirous took the pot.

Van 'Mrs. Master' Nguyen finished in 36th place, earning $14,085.

Andrew Shack finished in 35th place, earning $14,085.

End of level 15 and players are taking a breather -- or a smoker if they are so inclined.

Tuesday, 26th of August 2008 08:26 PM

Mark Seif - sacked

David Chiu raised to 17k and Kyle Wilson called. On the flop of 9 5 5, David fired 22k and Kyle called. Turn was a 2 and both checked. River was another 9, double-pairing the board. David fired 55k and Kyle moved in. David was covered and called all-in, showing A5 for 5s-full. Kyle rolled over pocket 9s for quads to take the pot and send the reigning WPT Champion to the rail in 39th place, just three out of the money.

Mark Seif went to the river in a pot against Denny Lee. With the final board showing Q 9 4 J 3, Mark's 98 (pair of 9s) was not enough to beat Denny's AQ (pair of Queens) and Mark was busted in 38th place, just two short of the money.

With 37 players left, it is bubble-time and play is hand-for-hand until the bubble bursts.

Tuesday, 26th of August 2008 07:59 PM

After Amit Makhija raised utg, Sirous Baghchehsaraie moved all in from the big blind. Amit insta-called, then groaned when he saw Sirous roll over his pocket Aces. Amit held pocket Queens. The board came T 3 3 6 T and Sirous doubled up to ~110k.

Gary Najaryan

On a board of 9 8 7 5 2, John Villanueva moved all in. Gary Najaryan called. John held pocket Jacks for the overpair, but Gary held pocket 6s for the straight to take the pot. With that huge double-up, Gary moved into the chip lead with almost 900k.

On the turn with the board showing K J 8 4, Matt Graham moved all-in and Lee Markholt tanked for several minutes. After quite a while, he asked the dealer to spread the pot. He must've liked what he saw, as he decided to call. Lee rolled over K 9 for top pair. Matt held Q T for nothing but an open-ender. The river was a Queen, giving Matt a useless pair. Lee doubled up.

Josh Vanduyn moved all in after an early position raise. Seat 9 moved in behind Josh and the raiser folded. Josh held pocket Kings and was way ahead of seat 9's A3 suited. The board came J 9 6 4 4 and Josh doubled up.

40 players remain and they have been stuck at this number for a while. With only 36 getting paid, the money bubble approaches...

Tuesday, 26th of August 2008 07:24 PM

Level 15: Blinds 3k/6k with 1k antes. Play has resumed.  43 players remain.  Only 36 will get paid.

Tuesday, 26th of August 2008 07:06 PM

Tuan Le - left

On a flop of Q T 7 with two diamonds, Tuan Le, Erick Lindgren, and Trong Nguyen get all their chips in the middle. Erick held pocket Kings, (overpair) Tuan held QT, (two pair) and Trong held pocket 7s (set). The last two were 8 A -- both diamonds -- and the only player who held a diamond was Trong (7). His set improved to a flush and he took the pot, sending the other two player to the rail.  This pot catapulted Trong Nguyen into the chip lead with over 600k in chips.

On the turn with a board of A 6 4 4 Jinyun Lin got all in and called by John Phan. Lin held 4 3 for trip fours. John held T 9 for the flush and the lead. Then the 6 hit the river, pairing the board again and giving Lin a full house to double up. John was left with only ~40k.

John got all in again soon after with A9 suited against pocket Queens.  He caught an Ace on the flop and followed up with the flush to double up.

End of level 14 and 43 players head out for another break.

Tuesday, 26th of August 2008 06:30 PM

John 'the Razor' Phan

Erik Seidel (cutoff) got all in with AQ against Sirous Baghchehsaraie's pocket 7s (bb). Erik would need help to survive, but a 7 hit the turn, putting his tournament run to an end.

Background needed to understand the next hand: Here at the Bicycle, the dealers have these little round buttons that say "All In" and when a player is all-in, the dealer puts a button on the felt in front of them. Until they are needed, the buttons stay in the dealer's tray. Now back to the action...

On the turn, the board showed K 7 6 A and Adam Weinraub bet 33k. The action was to John Phan and after a bit of thought, he looked at the dealer and said, "Can I see that button?". The dealer handed him an all-in button and after another few seconds, John tossed it on the felt in front of him. Adam called quickly, showing K6 off for two pair. John 'the Razor' Phan rolled over AK off for top two pair and the lead. Only a 6 on the river would help Adam. It was a 7, however, and John doubled up. (His all-in amount was 98k).

In another bizarre coincidence, the two women still in the tournament, Maria Ho and Van Nguyen, have ended up at the same table, seated next to each other.

Maria Ho and Van Nguyen - last women sitting

On the river the board read K T 4 K T. Maria Ho (bb) bet 16k. Raymond Voskanian thought about it, then raised another 24k. Maria called and Raymond said "You got me" and seemed reluctant to show his hand. Maria waited for him to turn it over -- he held QJ for the missed open-ender. Maria showed QT off for Tens-full to take the pot.

With the action on Max Pescatori, Jeffrey Vanchiro (on Max's left) said "all-in". Max called for the floor to ask if that action was binding. He was told that if the action did not change, it was. Max just called, so Jeffrey was required to move all-in (if Max had raised, the action would have changed and Jeffrey would not have been required to move in). Everyone else got out of the pot and Max showed pocket Kings. Jeffrey had AJ. No help on the board and Jeffrey was busted by the Italian Pirate.

Down to five tables now, so only 45 players remain.

Tuesday, 26th of August 2008 06:05 PM

Barry Greenstein - busted

Barry Greenstein got his last ~45k in pre-flop with two callers. Both callers checked the flop. On the turn, the board showed K J 9 T and Justin Scott fired 22k at the dry side-pot. The other player folded and Justin showed QT for the straight. Barry held pocket Aces and needed a Queen to suvive. River was an 8, however, and Barry was busted.

Robert 'RCW' Cheung and Amit Makhija go to the flop, which is 8 7 3. RCW moved in for ~110k and Amit made the call, showing pocket Tens. RCW held 98 for top pair and would need help. The last two were K 6 and Robert hit the rail. With that pot, Amit chipped up to 520k, good for the chip lead.

Raymond Davis has also busted out.

Tuesday, 26th of August 2008 05:37 PM

Level 14:  Blinds 2k/4k with 500 antes.  End of break -- back to business!

51 players remain and they're going to play today until down to 27.

Adam Weinraub is still the chip leader, with ~495k in chips.

Tuesday, 26th of August 2008 05:22 PM

Antonio 'the Magician' Esfandiari - made his own chips disappear

Mark Ketteringham got his chips in with pocket deuces and ran into the pocket Jacks of Tommy Le. The Jacks held up and Tommy took the pot while Mark took the walk.

On the turn with the board showing A 9 8 4 Raymond Lapitan moved in and Jim Hofetaz tanked for a few minutes. He finally opted to call, showing A 4 for two pair. Raymond showed A 3 for one pair with the flush draw. His only hope was a spade that didn't pair the board. The river was the 4 , however, and Jim took the pot with a full house while Raymond took the walk.

End of level 13 and now all the players are taking a walk, to stretch their legs or indulge their vices.

Antonio Esfandiari can keep walking, as he busted out just before the break.

Tuesday, 26th of August 2008 04:54 PM

Antonio Esfandiari contemplates Josh Vanduyn's raise

On the turn, the board read J T 5 4 and Tuan Le fired 25k. Andrew Newman raised to 100k. That would put Tuan all in. He called, showing Q 6 for the flush. Andrew held pocket Jacks for the set. Andrew needed the board to pair on the river ot bust Tuan, but it was a Queen. Tuan doubled up to about 260k.

Mike Wattel moved his last 26k in and got action from Trong Nguyen. Mike's A9 off would need to improve against Tong's pocket Kings. It did just that on the flop, which included an Ace, but then the turn brought Trong a third King. Mike hit the rail.

Erik Seidel and Erick Lindgren

Daniel Negreanu moved his last ~33k in and got action from Robert 'RCW' Cheung. Daniel's pocket 9s were leading Robert's K Q . Then the board came J 6 5 8 A. RCW made his flush on the turn and despite picking up a gutshot straight-flush-draw on the turn, Daniel was unable to pull this one out and he was busted.

On a flop of A 5 3 Antonio Esfandiari fired 22k. Josh Vanduyn raised another 43k on top. Antonio tanked for a couple of minutes, then came back over the top. Josh moved in for ~112k and Antonio called quickly, showing AJ for top pair. Josh held A5 for two pair. The last two were 6 8 and Josh doubled up. Antonio was left with about 100k.

I was looking forward to some Erik on Erick action when Erik Seidel raised to 5,600 from the cutoff and Erick Lindgren moved all in from the button. However, Erik Seidel opted out and that was the end of that.

Jinyun Lin before getting his hand timed out

On a flop of T 7 7, Marco Johnson three-bet Tommy Le's opening bet.  Tommy folded and Jinyun Lin, who had re-raised Tommy, tanked for several minutes until another player called for the clock. Lin eventually called and the turn brough an 8. Lin checked and Marco moved all-in.  Again Lin tanked and got the clock called on him. This time the clock ran out and Lin's hand was declared dead.  Tommy pled with Marco to show 'one time' and Marco obliged by showing him JT suited.

After a raise from seat 1 and a call from Adam Weinraub, Erick Lindgren moved in for ~45k. Seat 1 made the call and Adam got out of the way. Erick's pocket Kings were in charge. Seat 1 held AK off. The board blanked out and Erick doubled up.

Tuesday, 26th of August 2008 04:05 PM

Gabe Kaplan

Gabe Kaplan just couldn't get it going in the right direction today. His raises were getting re-raised and he was forced to lay down several times. Just after the break, he got his last chips in against Van Nguyen and was busted.

Justin Scott got all-in against Layne Flack pre-flop.  Justin's pocket Aces were in good shape against Layne's pocket Tens.  The board changed nothing and Justin doubled up, leaving Layne with ~215k.

62 players remain. Here's the latest leader-board, according to the WPT:

Kathy Liebert - Kings Kracked

Kathy Liebert raised to 22,500 and John Villanueva shoved. Kathy made the call, showing pocket Kings. John held AK and was dominated, but nevertheless, caught an Ace on the flop. Kathy hit the rail. She's the second lady today to have her premium pair cracked by AK.

After David Chiu opened the pot, Raymond Lapitan moved in for ~55k. David called, showing pocket 3s. Raymond held A9 off and was racing for his tournament life. An Ace on the flop made it a short race and Raymond doubled up.

Kenny Chuor opened for 7,500 and Daniel Hood shoved for ~39k. Kenny called and Daniel rolled over his pocket Kings. Kenny's pocket 8s were way behind, but an 8 hit the turn to give Kenny the set and the pot. Daniel was rewarded with the rest of the day off.

Toto Leonidas opened for 7,500 and Jinyun Lin popped it for 12k on top. Toto called. The flop was 8 4 3 and Toto check-raised all-in. Lin made the call, showing pocket Kings. Toto held pocket Jacks and was on the verge of elimination. The last two cards were 4 T and Toto can head back to Kansas.

End of level 12 and players get 15 to rest and recharge.

Tuesday, 26th of August 2008 02:55 PM

Todd Crosswell busted out early today when his A8 suited failed to improve against David Chiu's pocket 4s.

Daniel Negreanu

Esther Taylor, one of only four women making it to day 3, was busted early when her pocket Queens were all-in pre-flop against Amit Makhija's AK. A King hit the flop and it was all over for Esther.

Daniel Negreanu shoved for a bit less than 30k and John Phan shoved over the top to isolate. Mike Wattel released his AK and it was heads-up. Daniel's A 4 would need help to beat John's pocket Queens. The board came 9 8 5 Q K. Although John improved to a set on the turn, Daniel went runner-runner flush to double up.

Marco Johnson opened for 6,200 and Benjamin Arnold shoved for ~65k. Marco's pocket Kings were dominating Benjamin's AK. No Ace appeared on the board to save Benjamin and he was busted.

On the river with the board showing K J 2 A A, Evan McNiff checked to Peter Placey, who moved in. Evan showed AJ for trip Aces to take the pot. Peter mucked and headed for the door.

Kelly Kim of the 'November Nine' has also been eliminated in the first hour of play today.

Tuesday, 26th of August 2008 02:26 PM

Maria Ho

There's no shortage of action early today! When I entered the tournament room, Raymond Davis was all-in for 85k on the turn with the board showing 9 8 4 6. Maria Ho was in the tank and she took a couple of minutes, then mucked her hand. Raymond started asking for $5 to show his hand. He dropped the price to $1 and finally got a taker -- he showed pocket Tens.

On a flop of A Q 2, John Phan moved all in for 45,900 on top of Adam Weinraub bet of 12k. Adam spent a couple of minutes, then mucked. John didn't offer to show.

James Sileo opened for 7k, then Gabe Kaplan raised to 20k. James moved in and Gabe called, showing AK off. James held pocket Tens and was ahead. The board came Q 7 4 6 2 and James doubled through.

David Chiu opened for 6,200 and Behzad Teranie moved in. David asked for a count and it was 99,300 total. David called, showing AK off. Behzad held AT off and was badly dominated. The board came Q 5 2 Q 7 and Behzad was busted. David added another 100k+ to his stack.

Although I missed the action, I caught the aftermath. Tony Ma lost the last of his chips to Ron Jenkins and left the room.

Justin Scott

On a flop of K 9 5 rainbow, Justin Scott checked to Raymond Voskanian (button) who fired 20k. Justin called and the turn was a 6. Justin checked again and Raymond bet 20k again. This time Justin jacked it up to 60k smooth. Raymond let it go and Justin pulled the pot.

On the river with a board of Q T 4 J Q , John Phan (sb) fired 12k at the pot. Erick Lindgren took half a minute, then called. John showed pocket Kings and Erick mucked his hand.

Zachary Clark opened for 5,100 (utg) and got two callers before Samuel Ngai (sb) raised. Zachary moved in for 57,900 on top and the callers folded back to Samuel, who called. Zachary's pocket Aces were crushing Samuel's pocket 9s. The board came T T 8 2 6 and Zachary doubled up.

Jared Hamby is out. He says he lost two races and that was that.

On a flop of A J T Matt Stout (utg) shoved and got the insta-call from John Villanueva (sb). Matt held pocket Aces for top set, but John held K Q for Broadway. Matt needed the board to pair to survive, but his hopes were crushed on the turn when the K hit the board, giving John a Royal and all of Matt's chips. 'Allinat420' is all out at 2:20.

Down to 8 tables now which means 72 players remain.
