| Adam Weinraub - chip leader | |
Level 11 has come to a close and the survivors are bagging & tagging their chips. As always, when I get the chip counts, they will be posted here. Looks like Adam Weinraub will lead the field into day 3 with about 462k in chips. Matt Keikoan is his closest rival with about 328k in chips. Day three will begin at 2pm Tuesday with 79 returning players and will continue until the money-bubble is burst and only 36 remain. Monday, 25th of August 2008 11:58 PM

| Antonio 'the Magician' Esfandiari - made Matt's chips disappear | |
Antonio Esfandiari opened for 6,100 and Matt Vengrin (sb) shoved for 27k. Antonio called, showing pocket Queens. Matt tabled AK offsuit. Yet another instance of the classic race situation. This time the board came Ten-high, so the Queens prevailed, sending the pot to Antonio and sending Matt to the rail. Isaac Baron has also hit the rail, late in day 2. Mark Seif opened for 7k and a short stack shoved for ~37k. Mark made the call with AJ offsuit. His opponent held pocket 4s. A Jack on the flop was all Mark needed to take the pot, sending another player to the rail. Mark was up to ~212k. Monday, 25th of August 2008 11:34 PM

| Paul Smith | |
Adam Weinraub opened for 7,500 from the middle and then seat 2 moved all-in for ~45k from the hijack. Paul Smith (cutoff) tanked for a bit, then called. All folded back to Adam, who followed suit. Seat 2 showed pocket 8s and was crushed by Paul's pocket 9s. The board came A 9 J Q 7 and Paul took the pot, sending another player to the rail. They just broke the 11th table, so 10 tables remain, nine-handed, for 90 players. Actually 89, counting the one Paul just busted. Ben Fineman fired 20k on the turn with the board showing J 9 3 4. Layne Flack called and the river was another Jack. Both checked. Layne showed 53 off for a pair of 3s to go with the pair of Jacks on the board. Ben mucked his hand and Layne took the pot. On the turn with a board of 8 3 2 4, Kelly Kim (bb) checked to Daniel Negreanu, who bet 12,500. Kelly took a few seconds, then folded. Daniel showed him a four...then another four, for the set. Monday, 25th of August 2008 11:00 PM Level 11: Blinds 1k/2k with 300 antes. Play has resumed. This will be the last level of the day. 102 players are still in the hunt with Adam Winraub leading the pack. He's the only player over half-a-million chips. Ali Eslami is second with ~455k. Their closest rival is David Chiu in third with ~268k. Monday, 25th of August 2008 10:42 PM End of level 10 and players take their last break of the day. Monday, 25th of August 2008 10:25 PM Erik Seidel got all in with pocket Aces against Robert Cheung's pocket Kings. Erik's pair held up and he doubled to ~120k.

| Jordan Morgan - jilted | |
Jordan Morgan got his last chips in against two players, who checked down the board of J 9 6 3 Q. Jordan held AK (no pair). One opponent held AT (no pair) and Tuan Le held A6 (pair of 6s) to take the pot. Jordan 'nots0luckynemore' hit the door. On the turn with the board showing 7 6 5 2 Gabe Kaplan (bb) fired 11k and the player on the button moved all-in. Gabe studied for a bit, then called. His opponent held A3 for Ace-high with a gutshot. Gabe held 65 for two pair. River was a 9 and Gabe chipped up to ~220k. Adam Weinraub has leap-frogged Ali Eslami to take the chip lead with over half-a-million chips. More departures: Christina Lindley, John Monette, Bryan Devonshire, Tim West, Zachary Hyman, Jeff Madsen, Peter Neff, Bob Stupak, Chau Giang, Gabe Thaler, Gavin Smith, Tom Schneider, Frankie O'Dell, Gioi Luong, Noah Jefferson, CK Hua, Randy Holland, John Hennigan, Jon Friedberg, Miami John Cernuto and Michael Binger. | Greg 'FBT' Mueller - gouged
Big stacks John Smith and Ali Eslami are seated at the same table, so a collision was inevitable. They got to the river with the board showing A J 3 3 5 and 90k in the pot. Ali shoved for ~170k and John tanked for several minutes. He finally made the call. Ali showed AJ for top two pair. John mucked and Ali doubled up to ~440k to take a massive chip lead. After seat 4 opened for 5,100, Layne Flack shoved for ~34k on top. Seat 4 called, showing AK off. Layne held 97 suited ("the Destoyer"). The board came J 7 5 7 Q and the Destroyer delivered the double-up to Layne. On a final board of J 6 4 T 5, Matt Keikoan's 64 suited (two pair) was good enough to crack Erick Lindgren's pocket Aces. Matt chipped up to 250k while Erick dropped to 150k. Greg 'FBT' Mueller's pocket Kings turned into a set, but Max Pescatori made a flush to crack that set, sending FBT tilting out the door. | Max Pescatori
Kelly Kim raised to 5k from the button and the small blind shoved for ~33k. Kelly made the call, showing pocket 9s. His opponent held 87 suited. The board didn't help and another one bites the dust. Kelly was up to ~75k after that. Peter 'nordberg' Feldman was not so lucky with his pocket 9s. He got his chips in pre-flop against Tuan Le, who held AQ. The board came J 8 6 9 T and although Peter turned a set, Tuan rivered a straight to send him packing.

| Esther Taylor | |
Max Pescatori raised to 4,500 from the button and the player in seat 3 re-raised ~10k from the small blind. Max moved in for ~51k on top and after about a minute of deliberation, his opponent called. Max hald AJ offsuit and was badly dominated by the small blind's AK off, but the flop came K Q T giving Max the nut straight. The last two were Q 8 and Max doubled up to over 130k. Of the 118 players remaining in this event, only four are women. In a strange twist of logic, the randomness of table draws and balancing has resulted in three of those ladies being seated at the same table: Esther Taylor, Kathy Liebert, and Maria Ho all share the same piece of felt. Van 'Mrs. Master' Nguyen is the lone female seated at another table. Monday, 25th of August 2008 09:08 PM Level 10: Blinds 800/1,600 with 200 antes. Play has resumed. 120 players remain. Here are the current leaders according to WPT: |
| John Smith | 303,000 | | Mark Seif | 275,000 | | Erick Lindgren | 263,000 | | Paul Smith | 224,000 | | Gabe Kaplan | 207,000 | | David Chiu | 206,000 | | Allen Cunningham | 205,000 | | Adam Weinraub | 199,000 | | Ali Eslami | 191,000 | | Robert 'RCW' Cheung | 187,000 | | Total chips in play | 11,190,000 | | Players remaining | 120 | | Average stack | 93,250 |

| Erick Lindgren | |
Erik Seidel moved in and Allen Cunningham looked him up, showing A K . Erik held pocket 7s and it was time for another race. The board came 8-high and all black, doubling Erik up to ~47k. On a flop of 8 7 2, seat 9 lauched a salvo of 17k at the pot. Erick Lindgren responded with an all-in return fire for about 100k. Seat 9 made the call all-in, showing A8 suited for top pair/top kicker. Erick held pocket 7s for middle set and the lead. The last two were T J and Erick doubled up to ~260k, sending another donkey player to the rail. End of level 9 and players head for the restrooms and smoking areas (and the bar). | Tuan Le
Five players see the flop for the minimum: T 7 3 rainbow. Tuan Le (sb) fired 4k and it was folded to Kristy Gazes, who called. Turn was another 3 and Tuan launched 8k into the pot. Kristy shoved for ~35k and Tuan looked her up. Kristy held KT for two pair, but Tuan held T7 for top two pair. Kristy needed a King to survive, but the river was a 2 and she was busted. On a flop of 9 8 3 , David Chiu fired ~16k. The player on the button takes his time, but finally makes the call. David pushed a tall stack of chips out before the next card, essentially putting his opponent all-in in the dark. The turn was the J . The button again tanks and gets the clock called on him. Just before his hand is timed out, he calls all-in, showing A 9 for top pair/top kicker. David showed K T for the flush draw with open-ender. River was the J , completing David's flush and flushing his opponent. David was up to ~200k with that pot. Monday, 25th of August 2008 08:15 PM

| Allen 'Chainsaw' Kessler - cut | |
Jonathan Aguiar opened for 3k and Allen 'Chainsaw' Kessler shoved for ~20k. Jonathan said "I've gotta call" and did, showing AJ. Allen held pocket 9s and it was race-time. The race was a short one as an Ace came on the flop and it was all over for Chainsaw. After a player opened for 4k, Layne Flack made the call. The flop was T 7 6 rainbow. After the opener checked, Layne bet 5k. Turn was a 3 and again it was checked to Layne, who fired 8k, again getting the call. River was a Jack and when it was checked to him a third time, Layne shoved for ~28k. His opponent mucked and Layne showed his 98 suited for the flopped straight. Monday, 25th of August 2008 07:46 PM Dan Shak has busted out. After Erik Seidel raised to 3,200, Dan shoved for 17k. Erik made the call, showing AJ suited. Dan had pocket Kings. An Ace hit the board, giving the pot to Erik and sending Dan to the rail.

| Shane 'Shaniac' Schleger - shafted | |
Shane 'Shaniac' Schleger got his chips in with AK and was racing against pocket Queens. No help on the board for Shaniac and he was busted. Early day 1A chip leader Alvin Zeidenfeld got his last chips in with AQ and got action from David Chiu. Alvin caught a three-outer Queen on the turn to take the lead, but David caught his own three-outer King on the river to re-take the lead and the pot, sending Alvin home. Devin Porter ran his pocket 6s into the pocket Aces of Kelly Kim. No help for Devin and he's busted. Mark Newhouse lost a race with pocket Jacks against AK suited. His opponent caught an Ace and Mark was done. Paul 'Eskimo' Clark has also departed. Fred Goff opened for 4k utg and Gabe Kaplan called from the middle. On the flop of 8 5 2, Fred fired 8k and Gabe called. Turn was a 3 and Fred bet 13,500. Gabe again called. River was a Queen and the third diamond. Both players checked. Fred showed pocket 7s, but Gabe held pocket 9s to take the pot. Gabe is now over 200k. Monday, 25th of August 2008 07:22 PM Level 9: Blinds 600/1,200 with 200 antes. 149 players are back to the felt. | Robert Cheung, Gabe Kaplan, and Erik Seidel
Fred Goff is enjoying his table today. He's in the one seat and seated across from him are Robert 'RCW' Cheung, Gabe Kaplan, and Erik Seidel. Dan Shak is also at his table, in the 9 seat. On a flop of 8 6 6, Sami Rustom (bb) checked to Daniel Negreanu on his left. Daniel bet 2k and after a few seconds, Sami called. The turn was a 5 and Sami lead out for 3.500. Daniel called quickly. River was another 6 and Sami checked. Daniel tossed a 5k chip on the table and Sami went into the tank. After about a minute, Sami mucked and Daniel showed the table his pocket Aces. Over on table 23, Adam Weinraub fired 5k on a flop of J 6 4. Seat 3 made the call and the turn was a Queen. Adam bet 12k and again seat 3 called. River was a 2 and both players checked. Seat 3 showed pocket 8s, which were beat by Adam's KQ (pair of Queens). End of level 8 and players take a breather. Monday, 25th of August 2008 06:52 PM

| Jordan Morgan - gettin' s0 lucky | |
John Phan was in the action again, returning to his seat just in time to get all in with pocket Kings and called by a player with AK. An Ace hit the flop, putting John on the departure runway, but then a King hit the turn, cancelling John's departure and doubling him up. Jordan Morgan opened for 1,800 and Max Pescatori jacked it on up to 8k from the big blind. Jordon moved in for ~10k and Max looked him up, showing pocket 5s. Jordan's pocket Kings were way ahead, but then the flop came 7 7 5. The turn was a 6, which changed nothing, but the river was a 7, which gave Jordan 7s full of Kings to beat Max's 5s full of 7s. Allen Kessler got all in with AJ suited against Allen Cunningham's KQ off. An Ace hit the board to cement Kessler's win and double-up. Monday, 25th of August 2008 06:28 PM

| Mark Seif | |
On a board of Q T 2 6, Mark Seif fired 10k and the small blind moved all in. Mark made the call, showing QT for top two pair. His opponent held AQ for top pair and would need an Ace on the River to survive. River was a 2, however, and Mark took the pot, chipping up to ~226k. Maria Ho fired on a flop of T 6 3 and got raised by her opponent. She pushed back, enough to put him all in, and he obliged, showing pocket Jacks (both black). Maria held 7 5 for middle pair with the flush draw. The turn was the 2 completing Maria's flush. With that pot, she was over 100k. On a Q J 4 rainbow flop, Brandon Cantu got his chips all-in against Mark Newhouse, who held QJ for top two pair. Brandon held KT for the open-ender. The turn was a 9, completing Brandon's straight, but the river was another Queen, giving Mark the full house and the pot. Brandon hit the rail just before the break. | Frankie O'Dell
Five players saw the flop for a raise: 9 5 4 . Frankie O'Dell lead out for 5,600, then Daniel Negreanu shoved for about 20k more. The rest dove for cover. Frankie thought about it for a bit, then made the call. His Q T (flush draw with overs) was trailing Daniel's A 3 (nut flush draw). The last two cards were 8 K missing both, sending the pot to Daniel with Ace-high. He chipped up to about 60k while Frankie was left with about 10k. With one short-stack all-in pre-flop, John Phan and Ali Eslami check the side-pot to the river. The board showed 6 5 3 Q T and John bet 9k. Ali called, showing pocket Jacks to beat John's AK. The short-stack took the main pot with AQ. Monday, 25th of August 2008 04:15 PM Vanessa Rousso got her chips in with AK and was racing against pocket Tens held by John Smith. Unfortunately for Lady Maverick, the board came small and she was busted. Here's the current leader-board, according to the WPT: |
| Ali Eslami | 226,000 | | Adam Weinraub | 170,000 | | John Smith | 162,000 | | Freddy Deeb | 151,000 | | Tommy Le | 148,000 | | Mark Seif | 136,000 | | Layne Flack | 123,000 | | Maria Ho | 112,000 | | Barry Greenstein | 111,000 | | Allen Cunningham | 98,000 | | Total chips in play | 11,190,000 | | Players remaining | 216 | | Average stack | 51,806 |
Monday, 25th of August 2008 03:50 PM Level 7: Blinds 300/600 with 75 antes. Players are back to the felt. 216 players remain. Ali Eslami is still the chip leader, sitting on about 200k in chips. Monday, 25th of August 2008 03:35 PM

| Kristy Gazes | |
Kristy Gazes ran her pocket Kings into the pocket Aces of Greg 'FBT' Mueller and it looked like the fashionista was headed for the door, but she caught a King on the flop to set up and double up, to ~68k. On the opposite side of that coin, Frankie O'Dell's short stack was all-in pre-flop with pocket Aces against Stephen Graham's pocket Kings. Frankie extended his lead with an Ace on the flop and filled up on the turn. Frankie's stack was approaching 40k after that hand. Jon Friedberg's Aces held up to double him up through Raymond Davis. Jon chipped up to ~13,500. Brian Rast has busted out along with Theo Tran, Jimmy Tran, David Tran, David 'the Dragon' Pham, Men 'the Master' Nguyen, Phil Laak, Thor Hansen, and Eli Elezra. | Kelly Kim of the November Nine
On the turn with the board showing 7 4 2 6 , Kelly 'November Nine' Kim (sb) bet 20k. Kevin McCormick (middle position) moved all-in and Kelly insta-called, showing A 3 for the nut flush. Kevin held pocket 7s for the set and needed the board to pair. The river was the 5 , however, and Kelly took the pot. The stacks had to be counted down as it was very close, but Kelly had more chips (55k) and Kevin was busted. Gary Najaryan busted Alan 'BodogAri' Engel when his AJ morphed into trip Aces on the flop. On a flop of Q J 2 , Mike White (button) bet 8,500, Jeff Madsen (utg) raised about 30k, and Mike moved all-in. Jeff called quickly, showing 4 2 for bottom pair with flush draw. Mike rolled over Q J for top two pair and Jeff said "wow". The last two cards came K J and Mike doubled up his stack, which was 67,725 when counted down. Jeff was left with less than 20k. | Scott Montgomery - scrapped
Scott Montgomery, of the November Nine, check-raised Tommy Le's bet on the turn with the board showing Q Q 8 2. Tommy promptly shoved all-in and Scott called, showing AT (Ace-high). Tommy held KQ for trip Queens. The river was irrelevant as Scott was drawing dead. Tommy doubled up to ~150k, leaving Scott with less than 10k. A few hands later Scott shoved with J2 and got called by a player holding A5. The Ace paired on the flop and Scott was busted. He then told the media that something had come up and he would not be able to play out the day, so that's why he was playing so aggressively. Defending champion Dan Harrington, who started the day with a bit under 14k in chips, was busted early today by Barry Greenstein. Monday, 25th of August 2008 02:28 PM

The short-stacks are not wasting any time getting their chips in the middle. On the second hand of the day, Kenna James moved in from the button with Ace-high. He started the day with just over 8k, so needed to make a move early. Unfortunately, Alvin Zeidenfeld looked him up from the big blind with AT. Kenna was dominated and got no help from the board, hitting the rail. Mike Baxter opened for 1,600 from the cutoff and got calls from Jamin Stokes (cutoff) and Gabe Kaplan (small blind) before Isaac 'westmenlo' Baron popped it to 5,200. Mike folded, then Jamin shoved all-in. Gabe got out of the way and Isaac made the call. Jamin held pocket 7s and was racing against Isaac's AK off. The board came J 4 3 T A and Isaac won the race on the river, sending Jamin home. Alex Outhred has also busted out in early action.
