2008 World Series of Poker - $10K World Championship Main Event - Day 1C

The third Day 1 of the Main Event is in the books, and 1,928 entrants joined the madness, making it the largest Day 1 so far. Huck Seed, J.C. Tran, and even Larry Flynt showed up, only to have their Main Event hopes dashed. But David Singer, Chris Moneymaker, Liz Lieu, Mike "The Mouth" Matusow made it to Day 2B along with another 1,000 players. Norwegian player Henning Granstad finished the night as chip leader. They'll all be back on Wednesday, when they will be joined by the Day 1D survivors.

Official chip counts and seat assignments at the end of Day 1C:

Day 1C is over, and it will contribute more than a thousand survivors to Day 2B. Around half of the field, which was the largest of the first three Day 1s, made it through all five levels. They all let out a big cheer when the TD announced that they'd lived to return on Wednesday. Several tables started the party a big early, ordering rounds of drinks during the last hour.

Sabyl Landrum-Cohen didn't quite make it long enough to join the celebration. There was already 4,000 in the pot when she and Howard Berchowitz saw a Q 7 6 flop. Sabyl bet out 3,000, and Berchowitz made it 7,000. Landrum-Cohen responded by moving all in for 29,350, but Berchowitz wasn't intimidated and made the call. With a pair, Sabyl's 9 7 was ahead of Berchowitz' J T, but he had the higher flush draw. The 9 on the turn looked good for Sabyl, but the 2 on the river sealed her fate, and she'll have to wait for next year to improve on her 56th place finish in the 2006 Main Event.

A few hands before the end of the day, Nam Le gambled his stack pre-flop with K-Q and was called by an opponent with A-2. The board blanked for both, sending Le to the rail and leaving the rest of the table scratching their heads.

Henning Granstad ends the day as the chip leader with 228,000. Day 1A leader Mark Garner and 1B leader Ben Sarnoff both sit with less than 200,000. Granstad, a Norwegian player, finished 12th and 18th in earlier events in the Series and has several EPT and WPT cashes on his resume.

David Singer is high up on the leader board with 128,000, and Evelyn Ng and Nenad Medic also have big stacks. Chris Moneymaker, Clonie Gowen, Liz Lieu, and Mike "The Mouth" Matusow will join them on Wednesday for Day 2B.

Stay tuned for official chip counts, and be sure to check back on Sunday at 12:00 pm PDT for all of the Day 1D action.  It promises to be the largest and most star-studded field yet.

Sunday, 06th of July 2008 12:00 AM

There are still 1,116 left with less than an hour left in the night. As play tightens for the day, Day 1C could send to Day 2 close to double the number from Days 1A and B.

Jared Hamby won't be back for Day 2, however. He moved in for 14,000 on a J T 8 flop, and Chris Lorenzo called. Hamby's A-Q was in trouble against Lorenzo, who flopped a straight with Q-9. Bricks on the turn and river ended Hamby's tournament.

James Akenhead moved all in from the button with pocket Queens, and SB David Benefield called with 9-9. The board blanked, doubling Akenhead to 16,000. A few hands later, Akenhead shoved again, this time with A-T. Benefield wanted his chips back and called with A-K. The board came J 4 3 7 9, and Akenhead made his exit. Benefield chipped up to 80,000.

Andre Akkari lost much of his stack to Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier. A few hands later, he was all in with K-Q against an opponent with A-K, and he failed to improve when the board ran out A 7 4 8 K.

Tony Guogo is done playing for the night as well. He raised to 1,100 and saw the K 4 3 flop with one caller. Tony G bet out 2,000, and his opponent raised to 5,000. Tony G moved in over top for 11,175 and showed down Q J for the flush draw. His opponent tabled K Q for top pair. Tony G picked up a straight draw with the T on the turn, but hit neither with the 4 on the river. So long Tony.

Jim Bechtel, Steve Diano, and Nigel Sutcliffe also busted.

Henning Grandstad is still the chip leader and is the first person to cross the 200k mark.

Saturday, 05th of July 2008 11:00 PM

The remaining 1,227 players have just returned from break to begin Level 5. Blinds are at 200/400 with a 50 ante.

T.J. Cloutier made his exit just before the break. After a rollercoaster of a day, Cloutier pushed in his last chips on a K 7 5 flop. He wished he hadn't made a move with A-T when his opponent tabled pocket Aces. No help from the turn or river, and Cloutier will have to wait another year to add a Main Event bracelet to his other six.

The concert's over for Phil Collins. Eric Baldwin raised to 800 pre-flop, Collins made it 2,300 to go, and both BB Kurt Gronbech and Baldwin called. The flop came 9 8 2, and Gronbech and Baldwin checked the action to Collins. Phil thought about his options for several minutes before shoving for 14,025. Gronbech looked him up, and Baldwin got out of the way. Collins' A-Q had to improve against Gronbech's pocket Jacks, and the 7 6 that came next weren't what he needed to stay alive.

Toga-clad Matt Larsh is gone, making his table a little less entertaining. Larsh moved in on a J 9 8 3 board with pocket Kings, but the cowboys were no good against his opponent's set of 9s. A blank on the river ended the bacchanalia for Larsh, who lost a bet with friend Matt McCollough. The two agreed that if one of them finished in the top three in the Main Event at the WSOP Europe, he would have to buy the other into this tournament. But that person would have to play in a toga. McCollough placed third, earning $766,674, $10k of which he used to buy Larsh into the Main Event. McCollough also played today and busted several hours before Larsh.

Also out recently: John Kalmar, Steve Jelinek, David Epstein, Esther Rossi, and Nicolas Chouity.

Henning Granstad is the current chip leader with 192,000.

Saturday, 05th of July 2008 10:00 PM

An hour and a half after dinner, and the pros are dropping too fast to report. Marcel Luske raised to 1,200 and got reraised all in by Brad Booth. Luske's A-Q suited was racing Booth's pocket 7s, but the board ran out 9 9 4 4 3, sending the Dutchman flying toward the door. Booth chipped up to 77,000.

Steve Paul-Ambrose ran jacks into Queens to hit the rail, and Mark Gregorich met the same fate when his 8s encountered Kings.

Amit Makhija moved in on an A Q J 9 board, showing A-Q for top two pair. Too bad his opponent had T-8 for the straight. A 3 on the river sent Makhija to the exit. Joining him on the rail are Fred Berger, Kirk Morrison, Jonathan Wein, Rajesh Vorha, and Kevin O'Donnell.

Court Harrington shoved after a raising war on a 7 7 5 flop holding pocket Queens. The overpair was in tough shape against his opponent's A-7, and the turn and river blanked to end Harrington's tournament.

Bryan Devonshire got spectacularly unlucky to lose all of his big stack. On a T 8 6 flop, Devo bet out, Arnaud Mattern raised him, Devonshire repopped, and Mattern four bet. Devo called all in, tabling 9 7 for the straight. Mattern also flipped up 9 7, and it looked like time for a chop. The A on the turn changed nothing, but the A spiked on the river to improve Mattern to a flush and end Devonshire's Series. Owww. With all of Devo's chips, Mattern took over the chip lead with 155,000.

Saturday, 05th of July 2008 09:00 PM

Players are half an hour into Level 4 with blinds at 150/300 and an ante of 25.

Two eliminations occured moments before the dinner break. Sammy Farha and Jason Kang were invovled in a 17,000 pot by the time the board read: J 3 2 Q 7. Kang moved all in on the end for 30,000. Farha gave it some thought, scrutinized his opponent, and finally called all in, tabling A-J. Kang turned up K-Q for top pair, sending Farha to the rail.

Marco Traniello left a few hands before dinner as well. He raised to 1,025 pre-flop, and Ryan Hughes called from the button to see the T 3 2 flop. Traniello bet out 2,500, and Hughes matched it. Marco fired 6,000 after the Jack on the turn, and Ryan responded by moving in for 33,000. Traniello called with pocket Kings, but he was in tough shape against Hughes' J-T for two pair. The 6 on the river was no help for Marco, and his Series is behind him.

Only a few minutes after returning from dinner, new bracelet winner J.C. Tran was back on break. Left with only 3,175, he bet it all pre-flop with A-Q. Ed Rogdon looked him up with pocket Jacks. The hooks held up when the board fell K 5 2 4 7, leaving Tran with nothing but memories (and a bracelet, and a chunk of change) from the 2008 WSOP.

David Singer worked quickly after dinner to chip up to the #1 spot with 108,000.

Saturday, 05th of July 2008 07:00 PM

The survivors are about to head off to dinner, so vacate the hallways and run for cover. The official number of entrants for Day 1C has just been announced - 1,928. And 1,447 are still kicking. That's more than began Days 1A (1,297) and 1B (1,158). The total number of ME registrants is already up to 6,159 - past last year's total with another Day 1 to go.

Justin Bonomo got his dinner break early, but he's probably not very hungry. On a J 5 3 flop, he bet out 2,300. One player folded, and Kara Scott raised to 6,500. Bonomo came over the top, shoving for 25,000. Scott, barely covered, made the call. Bonomo showed A 6 for the nut flush draw, and Scott tabled 5 5 for middle set. The 6 gave Bonomo another few outs, but the case 5 on the river made quads for Kara and left Justin with 400 chips. He threw the rest in with T-8, and his opponent started with A-K and had a flush by the river to open up Bonomo's seat at the table.

Jesper Hougaard also won't be enjoying his dinner too much. He got it in pre-flop with pocket 8s against Jason DeWitt's A-K. The board ran out K 6 3 Q 4, ending Hougaard's WSOP.

T.J. Cloutier did the honors in burying Nicole Mummey. She raised to 800 pre-flop, and Cloutier made it 2,800. Mummey paid to see the 7 5 3 flop. T.J. bet out 3,500, and Mummey made it 7,000 to go. Cloutier moved in for 15,600, and Nicole called, leaving her with 600 chips. She wasn't so pleased when she discovered her Jacks were up against Cloutier's Aces. The 6 on the turn and the 7 on the river didn't change anything, and Cloutier doubled up. Mummey doubled up, and then gave her remaining 1,200 chips to T.J. a few hands later, running her A-Q into his A-K on her way to the rail. Cloutier is up to 40,000.

Michael Martin is the dinner-time chip leader with 98,800. Brian "tsarast" Rast has 94,500, and Brad Booth is behind him with 90,000. Clonie Gowen and Jeff Madsen are also in the top ten.

Play resumes at 8:30 pm PDT.

Saturday, 05th of July 2008 06:00 PM

PokerSchoolOnline member Jerry Garver, aka xxPiratexx, is playing in today’s event and all the folks at PSO and PokerPages wish him the best of luck!

On a board of A J 5 7, Jordan Rich got an opponent all in. Jordan’s A-K had out-flopped his opponent’s pocket Kings. Then the river washed up the case King to ship the pot the other way and leave Jordan with just 14k.

After a limp and a raise, Gavin Griffin shoved for 3,550. The limper folded, and the raiser called, showing pocket Kings. Gavin held pocket 6s and would need help. He didn’t get it as the cards ran out Q T 3 9 4, and Gavin’s a goner.

Chad Batista got his last chips in on a flop of Q T 4 against Jordan Mayers. Chad’s A-Q was leading Jordan’s KQ, but the last two came 4 K, and Jordan catches the three-outer to take the pot, doubling up and leaving Chad short. Chad then shoved dark and everyone folded. Then he looked at his hand and made the shove, getting looked up by Jordan, who held A-K suited. This time Chad held Q 8 . The board came J J 4 2 7 and Chad doubled up with the flush. Then Chad shoved on a board of T 9 4 3. He had 7-6 for a gutshot. His caller held T-6 off for top pair. The river was a 3 and Chad finally hit the rail.

Vivek ‘psyduck’ Rajkumar lost a race with A-K against pocket Tens. After doubling up his opponent, he was down to less than 10k. A while later, he got his chips in on the flop with a flush draw against middle set. Vivek missed his draw and was busted.

Shirley Williams (David’s mother) called a raise from her seat in the cutoff. On the flop of A 8 8, the opener fired 1,200. Shirley called. Turn was a Ten and both checked. River was another Ace and the raiser checked, Shirley bet 1,500, and got the call. She showed pocket 8s for quads and took the pot. She’s up to 28k.

On a flop of A Q 3, Jeff Madsen fired 1k and got one caller. The turn was a 4 and Jeff fired 2,500, again getting called. River was a King and Jeff fired 5,600, again getting the call. His opponent held Q-J for middle pair. Jeff showed J-T off for the gutshot Broadway straight made on the river. With that pot, Jeff chipped up to 85k.

On the turn with a board of 9 9 3 8 , Evelyn Ng bet 2,500 and got check-raised to 7,500. She made the call, and the river was the J . Her opponent fired 6k, and she shoved for just over 9k and after a while, finally got the call. Her opponent showed A K for the nut flush, but Evelyn held pocket Jacks and had rivered the full house.

Terrence Chan got his chips in with A-Q on a Queen-high board, but his opponent held pocket Kings to send him packing.

Marcel Luske was down to less than 4k and got those chips in on a flop of 7 5 2 – all spades. His opponent made the call, showing pocket Queens with the Q . Marcel held pocket 6s for the set and the current lead, but had to fade a lot of outs. The last two cards were 2 8, and Marcel tripled up to ~17k.

Dmitri Nobles is out at the hands of Michael Martin who flopped a set. Michael is now stacking up to 103k.

Joe Tehan was all in on a flop of 4 4 3. He held pocket 6s but ran into Clonie Gowan’s 5-4 for trip 4s. Joe hit the rail, and Clonie chipped up to 76k.

Chris Grigorian doubled up on a board of A 9 6 T. They got the chips in the middle and his A-K held up against his opponent’s A-Q.

Out: Kevin O’Brien, Jarrad Dale, and Roz Quarto.

Saturday, 05th of July 2008 05:00 PM

Two Day 1s and two levels down in the Main Event, and registration is over for Day 1C. Players returned from a 20-minute break moments ago to begin Level 3.

Isaac Haxton didn't quite last until the break. Haxton got it all in pre-flop with A 7, and an opponent called with Q Q. The flop was just what Haxton needed: 7 7 6. The 4 on the turn ended his runner-runner flush hopes, but he just needed to dodge two cards to double up. But the Q on the river was one of them, sending Haxton home.

Gavin Griffin is still hanging on, but will need to chip up soon to avoid following in Haxton's footsteps. He was near death when he built back to 6,000 with a flopped pair of 4s. A few hands later, he raised to 600, and the button called to see the 9 4 2 flop. Griffin bet out 850, and the button called again. Gavin checked the 5 on the turn, then called the button's 1,200 bet. Check-check the 8 on the river. Griffin tables 6-5 for a busted straight draw and middle pair, but his opponent's pocket Tens were good for the pot. Griffin is back down to 3,000.

Marco Traniello took down a big pot before the break. He bet 1,100 on a 5 3 3 flop, and Ryan Hughes called. A 5 turned, and Hughes called Traniello's bet of 3,300. Marco fired 5,200 after the Jack on the river, and Ryan made one more call to see Traniello's pocket cowboys. Hughes looked at the Kings and mucked his hand, dropping from a high-rolling start to 29,000. Traniello is up to 30,000 after the hand.

Clonie Gowen is the chip leader of the hour with 70,000. Rhett Butler is next with 63,000, followed closely by Carl Henriksson with 62,000.

Saturday, 05th of July 2008 04:00 PM

Mimi Tran was all-in on a K 7 6 flop. Her opponent called, showing K 8 for top pair with the flush draw. Mimi’s pocket Aces were in the lead, but she had to dodge all the hearts and remaining Kings and 8s. The last two came offsuit A 4, and Mimi doubled up to ~9k.

Dmitri Nobles called a 12k all-in, showing pocket Kings. His opponent’s pocket 5s were in bad shape. The board came T T 9 6 J and Dimitri chipped up to ~48k.

On a flop og 6 5 3 , Juan Macieras called a shorter-stack’s all-in, showing 7 6 for a pair with gutshot and flush draw. His opponent’s pocket Aces were ahead, but had a lot of outs to dodge. The turn was the 2 and changed nothing, but the river brought the T completing Juan’s flush. He chipped up to 60k.

On a flop of 9 9 8 , Minh Ly check-raised all-in and got called by Fernando Fernandez. Minh held T 7 for the open-ender and flush draws. Minh was ahead with 9 5 for trip 9s. The last two came 3 3 giving Minh the flush, but giving Fernando the full boat to ship Minh out of here.

Padraig Parkinson flopped a straight with his 4-3 off. The board came 7 6 5 7 K and his opponent’s 8-7 suited went down in flames. Padraig chipped up to 26k.

Farzad Rouhani, sporting his new WSOP bracelet, fired 8k on the river with a board of T 9 3 8 7. He gets the call and shows J-9 suited for the straight. His opponent mucked, and Farzad chipped up to 31k.

On a board of A T 2 4, Scott Seiver shoved his last ~2k in and got looked up by the big blind. Scott held A-T for top two pair, but his opponent held 5-3 off for the wheel. No boat arrived on the river to save Scott, and he shipped out.

Steve Paul-Ambrose got his chips in on a flop of J T 5 and got action from a player holding J8 suited for top pair. SPA showed pocket Tens for the set. The last two were 6 A and SPA gets the double to 39k.

On a board of K J 6 Q, Tony Korfman bet 6k, and Dustin ‘neverwin’ Woolf shipped it for ~11k. Tony made the insta-call, showing A-T for Broadway and the nuts. Dustin held pocket 6s for the set and needed the board to pair on the river, but it didn’t, and he lives up to his nickname, headed for the door.

Max Pescatori shoved on the turn with the board showing J 9 3 5, and Matt Hawrilenko looked him up. Max showed pocket Kings for the overpair, but Matt held 5-3 suited for two pair. Max was drawing thin to the remaining Kings, but neither appeared, and Max hit the rail. Matt chipped up to 45k.

On a flop of K 9 2 , Mark ‘PokerHo’ Kroon got into a three-way all-in. The shorter stack showed K-J for top pair. Mark held A 9 for middle pair with the nut flush draw. The player with the big stack tabled pocket ducks for bottom set and the lead. The last two were blanks, and Mark and the short stack joined the ever-growing crowd on the rail.

On the ESPN feature table, Salman Ali got all in with pocket Jacks, and Mike ‘the Mouth’ looked him up holding Q J . The flop brought 9 6 5 with two diamonds. Then the turn was the killer, the K which completed Mike’s flush and completed Salman’s tournament.

Mike Sexton got his last 3k in with A-K, and Mike Scala made the call, showing K-J. Looked like Mike was headed for a double-up, but two Jacks hit the board, sending the pot to Scala and sending Sexton to the rail.

Rhett Butler raised to 1,600 after four players limped. Two called, and the flop was 9 6 6. One player led for 3k and got a caller, then Rhett jacked it up to 13k. The first player moved in for 500 more, and the other player checked out Rhett’s remaining chips (7,700) and then moved in over the top. Rhett called all-in. Rhett held pocket 9s for top full house. His opponents showed pocket Kings and 6-5 for trips. The last two came 5 Q, and Rhett took the pot, chipping up to 63k.

Ken Einiger moved in and got two callers. On the flop of A J 4, one player fired, and the other folded. Ken’s Q-9 was no good against his opponent’s A-K, and he got no help from the last two. Ken was busted.

Liz Lieu flopped a full house and got paid off, chipping up to 45k.

On a board of 7 6 3 7 , Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier was all-in with J T . His opponent held A Q for the nut flush, and ElkY was drawing dead. He was left with less than 4k.

Also busted: Daniel Alaei, Ut Nguyen, Jonathan Nekar, Lana Maier, and David Kitai.

Saturday, 05th of July 2008 03:00 PM

The first 20-minute break of the day took place about 2:12pm, and players streamed out of the Amazon Room heading for the Poker Kitchen, restrooms, smoking area, and the coffee stand.

Play resumed following the break with Level 2: Blinds 100/200.

A short-stacked player shoved and Burt Boutin called him, showing 7-5 suited. The short-stack held pocket Jacks and was ahead, but Burt caught a 5 on the flop and a 7 on the turn to make two pair and crush another short-stack’s dream. Burt chipped up to 25k.

On a board of K 4 3 J, Bryan ‘Devo’ Devonshire got his opponent all in with pocket Aces. Devo held pocket Kings for the set and just needed to dodge two outs on the river. No Ace appeared and Devo chipped up to ~50k.

Lars Bonding got all in with A-K against Nghi Tran’s pocket Aces. The board came J 5 2 T 3, and Nghi doubled up, leaving Lars with only 700 chips. Nghi got those chips soon after, and Lars hit the road. Nghi is up to ~41k.

Kevin O’Donnell’s pocket Kings fell to an opponent’s A-K when an Ace flopped. He also managed not to donk off all his chips – he’s still got 14k.

Also playing in today's field is former PokerPages.com owner Mark Napolitano. Mark is sharing his table with Aaron Coulthard and Yoon Kim, among others.

Saturday, 05th of July 2008 02:00 PM

T.J. Cloutier is starting today over in the Brasilia Room. He had pocket Aces, raised pre-flop, and got a call from Darren Keyes. On the T 7 5 with two clubs flop, T.J. bet 2k, and Darren called. Turn was a blank, and T.J. bet 5k – Darren called. River was the J  and Darren lead out. TJ mucked his pocket Aces. Darren claimed he had pocket 7s for the set. Later on T.J. says he mucked pocket Jacks when he ran into strength. He’s down to half his starting stack, but at least he hasn’t donked off all his chips like many other players who think their big pocket pairs are gold.

On the turn with a board of Q T 3 5, Mike Gracz moved in for 11k and got looked up. Mike’s K-Q (top pair) was in good shape against the other player’s Q-J (top pair, inferior kicker), but the river was – you guessed it – a Jack, sending the pot across the table and sending Mike home.

Larry Flynt played today, but not for long – he’s already busted out.

Jordan Rich flopped a straight and got paid off, chipping up to 32k.

Ryan Hughes raised all-in on the turn with a board of A Q T 4. Ryan held pocket Queens for the set, but his opponent held K-J suited for the Broadway straight. Ryan was behind, but a paired board on the river would save him. The river was a 4, and Ryan made the boat to take the pot, sending his opponent home.

Joe Hachem and another player saw a flop of 9 8 3. Joe fired 1,500 and got min-raised to 3k. Joe then re-raised to 5k and got re-popped to 8k. Joe called and the turn was a 4. Joe checked, then called his opponent’s all-in. Joe’s pocket Tens (overpair) were in bad shape against his opponent’s pocket 8s (set). Then Joe caught the three-outer Ten on the river to make a bigger set, chipping up to 46k.

On a flop of J 7 7, Carl Henriksson bet 350 and got raised to 1,650. Carl raised to 4,100 and three players went to the turn, which was a 4. Carl bet 6,400 and both called. River was a 4, and Carl moved in for 10,200 – both other players called. Carl showed J-7 for 7s-full on the flop. One opponent showed K-7 for the smaller boat, and the other held just a Jack for two pair. Thanks to all that stellar poker playing, Carl has tripled up to 63k, good for the chip lead.

On the turn with a board of K 5 4 6, a player led with 1k, and Nicolas Levi raised to 3k and got the call. River was an Ace and after a check, Nicolas bet 5,500 and got the call. Nicolas showed his pocket Aces, and his opponent mucked. Nicolas chipped up to 33k.

Although we can’t get close to cover him, Mike ‘the Mouth’ Matusow is doing well on the feature table. He’s up to 27k.

Saturday, 05th of July 2008 01:00 PM

Today’s event was kicked off by country music recording artist Andy Griggs, who sang “It’s All About the Money” which seemed appropriate. Then Jeffrey Pollock showed the championship bracelet and pointed out that it is also all about the bracelet.

They also announced that all players who made final tables this year will be sent a WSOP Final Table jacket. Then Tournament Director extraordinaire Jack Effel gave the order, “Shuffle Up and Deal!” at 12:10PM.

Level 1: Blinds 50/100. Players began with 20,000 chips. Levels last two hours and tables are 9-handed.

There is an ESPN feature table being filmed on the stage, and Mike ‘the Mouth’ Matusow’s table was moved there. Joe Hachem’s table is the secondary feature table. Michael Keiner is also seated at that table.

Early controversy: Steve Wong had just arrived at his table and had his receipt and ID to show the dealer. A hand had been dealt, and the dealer killed his hand. Steve called the floor over and complained, but the cards were already in the muck, so there’s nothing that can be done. He slammed his hand down on the table and was given a warning. Subsequent outbursts would result in a penalty. He said “What if I had Aces?!?” (I could have pointed out that he could have gone broke with those Aces, as several people did early yesterday, and perhaps he dodged a bullet.)

Not sure if he was the first to bust, but about 10 minutes into play, Shawn Buchanan was facing an all-in with the board showing J 7 5 5 2. He made the call, showing pocket 7s for the flopped set, now 7s-full. His opponent showed pocket Jacks for the flopped-top-set, now Jacks-full to take the pot, doubling up. Shawn was left with 300 chips, which went in on the next hand and were gone, as is Shawn.

On the turn with a board of 7 7 3 Q, Chris Miranda bet 6k, and Huckleberry Seed moved in for 16k on top. Chris thought about it for a bit, then called. Huck showed 9-7 suited for trips. Chris showed A-7 suited for trips with the Rockette (higher kicker). Only a 9 on the river would save Huck, but it was not to be, and he’s busted.

On a board of J 6 5 3 , Brian Townsend fired 5,800 and got called. River was the 4 . His opponent shoved, and Brian called, showing A 8 for the nut flush. His opponent held Q J (top pair) and has the rest of the day off to consider the error of his ways. Brian chipped up to 40k.

Bryan ‘Devo’ Devonshire turned a flush to win a pot and chip up to 32k. Sabyl Cohen-Landrum picked off a bluff with top pair to chip up to 30k.

On the river with a board of 6 3 3 4 A , Sam Farha moved in for 14k and after a bit of thought, his opponent makes the call for his tournament life, showing pocket Kings. (?!?) Sammy showed A 3 for 3s full to take the pot, sending another donkey player to the rail. Sammy’s up to ~42k.
