That was fast. The final six are already set and off for a night of relaxation, rest, and...Never mind. With John Phan among the leaders, they're probably all off to party. Gioi Luong and John Phan are tied for the chip lead with 290,000 chips. Robert Mizrachi and Sun Uchida are close behind, and Ben Ponzio and David Sklansky have a ways to go to catch up. So how did they reach the final table so fast? Here are the dirty details:

Ben Ponzio took out Mike Wattel in 9th place ($12,317). Ponzio showed 7-6-4-3-2, and Wattel tossed his cards into the muck and hit the road.

Steve Sung was next, leaving with 8th place and $15,054. After a raising war with Shun Uchida, Sung moved all in for 21k, and Uchida called. Sung drew two cards on the first draw, showing the two Aces he was discarding. Uchida also took two. Sung was satisfied with his hand after the first draw, while Uchida took one card on the second. Both stood pat on the third, and Uchida showed 7-6-4-3-2. Sung didn't have the nuts and headed out, leaving the remaining seven players to redraw to one table.

Billy Baxter sat down at the seven-handed table with only 25,000 in chips, and it didn't take long for him to lose them. Still, for someone who began Day 2 as the shortest stack of the remaining 30 players, 7th place and $15,054 isn't bad. Baxter raised pre-draw, and SB David Sklansky and BB Gioi Luong called. Each took two cards, and Sklansky and Luong checked to Baxter. Billy bet, prompting a fold from Sklansky. Luong called and drew two while Baxter drew one. Luong checked again, and Baxter bet with all but his last 1,000. At Billy's request, Gioi raised him all in. Both drew one card on the third draw, and 7-6-5-2 and a Queen. Baxter's 8-5-4-2 had a shot until he saw that he'd also drawn a Queen.

Baxter's bust set the final table and ended Day 2. The final table begins at 2:00 pm PDT on Tuesday.

Monday, 23rd of June 2008 10:00 PM

Greg Raymer made his exit in 11th place, cashing for $9,580. He was crippled by big losses to Richard Chase and Mike Wattel, and Raymer risked what was left before the first draw. Richard Chase called his all in, and both drew two cards. That was it for Chase, making the Fossilman nervous as he drew two more on the second draw and again on the third. Chase flipped over 8-5-4-3-2 before Raymer looked at his last two cards. He showed 6-5-2, telling the table he just needed a 7. Maybe he should have been more specific. He got what he asked for, turning over a 7. But the second card was a duck, giving him a pair and an 11th place finish.

Raymer's nemis, Richard Chase, followed him out. Chase finished 10th for $12,317. All in from the button, he found a caller in BB Gioi Luong. Chase drew one card and stood pat, and Luong took two and did the same. Chase saw Luong's 8-7-6-4-3 and mucked, heading toward the payout desk. Luong is the new chip leader with 240,000.

Monday, 23rd of June 2008 09:00 PM

The energy at the remaining two tables is high as each bust out brings them closer to the final table. James Copeland busted in 13th place, taking home $6,843. His 8-6-5-3-2 wasn't quite good enough against Ben Ponzio's 7-6-4-3-2. After Copeland's departure, the field redrew to two tables.

Dario Alioto was the first to leave his new table, finishing in 12th for a pay bump of $9,580. John Phan took most of Alioto's stack when he made an 8-7 to defeat Alioto's Ten. Left with only 4,500, Dario moved all in a few hands later and couldn't have been happy when Phan called. Alioto drew three, three, and two, looking more and more discouraged each time. The Razor took two, then one, and then stood pat with his 9-8-5-3-2. Alioto showed 9-3-2 and then a King and 2 on his way out the door.

Players have returned from dinner.

Right off the bat, we lost another one.

A series of raises saw David Baker all in before the final draw vs. Greg Raymer. Both players would stand pat in the last round and Raymer would show 8-6-5-4-2, just sneaking by the 8-7-5-4-2 of Baker.

David Baker is done in 14th-place, good for a $6,843 payday.

Players are now taking a one-hour dinner break.

Before the break, we lost a couple, leaving us with 14 players.

First, it was Luis Velador.

Velador was short and found himself all in before the first draw vs. Raymond Davis. He would take two the first couple rounds, and one on the third try. Velador had 6-5-3-2, but could only squeeze an ace out on his last draw. Davis held 8-7, good enough to bounce Velador, the Event 32 champ.

Luis Velador is out in 16th, earning $6,843.

Davis couldn't put Velador's chips to good use.

Davis called a Phan three bet to draw two to Phan's one. Davis put in a check-raise after the first draw and Phan called. Phan would take one to Davis' none, then Phan raised Davis for the rest of his stack. Davis would call.

Neither would draw in the last round and Phan showed a wheel, 7-5-4-3-2. Davis would muck.

Raymond Davis is out in 15th, good for $6,843.

Recent eliminations:

Von Altizer eliminated in 21st-place
Ralph Perry eliminated in 20th-place
Chris Vitch eliminated in 19th-place
Claude Cohen eliminated in 18th-place
Chau Giang eliminated in 17th-place

Ray Davis took care of Von Alitzer, bumping the last female from the field in 21st.

Ralph Perry was hurt after the big pot with Raymer. He was put out of his misery by John Phan after Perry could only find paint on the last draw, falling to the Razor's 9-6.

Ray Davis then showed #2, 7-6-4-3-2, to eliminate Chris Vitch.

Chau Giang was on the tracks when the Billy Baxter train was coming through. Giang was committed with the thrid best 2-7 hand and ran into the good ol' #1 of Baxter, 7-5-4-3-2, who is now our chip leader with nearly 150K.

Right on the heels of an exiting Bill Chen was George Lind.

Lind was drawing against three other players; Steve Sung, John Phan and Greg Raymer. After and handful of bets and draws, Phan would show the best of it, 7-6-5-4-2, just edging out Sung's 8-6. Raymer and Lind would much, with Lind eliminated on the hand.

George Lind is out in 23rd, worth $5,474.

Kela can't squeak by.

Alfons Kela found himself all in after the second draw. Kela still needed to draw one, but his opponenet, Richard Chase, would take none.

Kela was able to show 8-7-6, but couldn't quite top Chase's 8-6-4.

Alfons Kela will pocket $5,474 for finishing 22nd.

Raymer takes a big one.

Greg Raymer put in a raise on the button and would call a reraise to 8K from Ralph Perry to draw one. Perry would stand pat and lead out. Raymer would call to draw one more. Perry would bet again, this time Raymer would call and both would pass on the draw. This drove Perry to check-call a bet from Fossilman. Raymer showed 8-6-5-3-2 to take down a 36K pot.

Show them the money.

Trung Ly found himself short, down to his last 1K to be exact. He would get dealt a 9-high and stood to triple up. Eventually, he was all in from his BB and couldn't out draw the J-7-5 of Claude Cohen, he could only muster J-7-6. Ly's elimination mean's players are now guaranteed a payday.

The top ten:

Raymond Davis - 131,000
Shun Uchida - 114,800
Luis Velador - 78,000
Mike Wattel - 68,000
Robert Mizrachi - 66,000
David Baker - 65,000
Gioi Luong - 65,000
Ben Ponzio - 61,000
James Copeland - 59,000
Richard Chase - 56,000

After the bubble had burst, Bill Chen was the first to go.

Chen started the day with high hopes, but couldn't seem to get it going. He found himself all in vs. Chris Vitch. Chen was all in after the his first draw. He took two then, and two on each remaining street. Chen managed to get down to a 10-7 after his last draw, but couldn't catch Vitch, who stood pat the whole way with 9-8.

Bill Chen will get $5,474 for finishing in 24th.

Day Two of 2-7 Triple Draw has begun. We have 30 players still seat, but only 24 of them will avoid leaving with nothing but a bad beat story.

2nd $95,795
3rd $61,583
4th $41,055
5th $28,739
6th $20,528
7-8th $15,054
9-10th $12,317
11-12th $9,580
13-18th $6,843
19-24th $5,474

While the idea of a draw game is a breath of fresh air in a schedule oozing No Limit Hold'em events, the most entertaining aspect of the restart isn't what's going on at the tables.

The Seniors Event is taking place, with a record-setting number of entrants. Some 2,218 of the games more experienced players are spread about the Rio. Some in the Amazon Room. Some in the Brasilia room. Some of them were even forced to journey into the main casino to find their tables. Unfortunately for those in the 2-7 game are in the path of those designated to the Brasilia Room. The floor persons are having a hell of a time wrangling in the stray seniors that are choosing to ignore the rails and walkways, instead walking right through the Event 40 playing area. Maybe they can take some lessons from the well mannered $1,500 Saturday crowds.

Meanwhile, on the felt, we're down to 27 players. First we lost Mike Ross, then Antony Lellouche and most recently, John Roveto bowed out in 28th.

Roveto took a big hit from Billy Baxter. Roveto had a lot of chips in the pot and was looking for help on the river and checked in the dark. Lucky for him, Baxter would check behind before showing his 8-7-5-4-2, saving the former NFL kicker a few thousand chips. Roveto flashed the ace he drew on the last round, then mucked his hand. A crippled Roveto was done in a few hands later.

Raymond Davis is having fun with his big stack. First he was riding Robert Mizrachi for rabbit hunting after standing pat and losing to Davis' 9-high. "What to we got, Elmer Fudd at our table?" said Davis. He would then turn his attention to Al "Sugar Bear" Barbieri, who was just passing through. Davis said something along the lines of Barbieri's only bracelets were the green ones they give you at registration. Not sure why Barbieri didn't say something similar right back.

Chip counts:

Luis Velador - 61,000
Richard Chase - 59,200
