After just a few hands, it's over.

Flack would open by raising the pot. Makowsky would re-pot and Flack would put Makowsky all in. Makowsky would make the call.

It was Makowsky's A K 4 4 against the K K J 2 of Flack. Makowsky would pick up a flush draw after the 10 5 7 flop. The 6 didn't change much. Makowsky would need an ace or diamond on the river, or else Flack would pick up bracelet #6.  But the K fell on the river, giving the match and bracelet to Flack.

Daniel Makowsky takes home $355,050 as runner-up.

Layne Flack pockets $577,725 and sixth gold bracelet of his career.

Dario doubles.

In a battle of the blinds, Flack check-called an Alioto bet after seeing a 10-6-Q flop. The Ad fell on the turn. Flack checked and Alioto potted it. It was 300K to Flack and since Alioto had very little left behind, Flack put him all in rather than calling. Alioto moved in the rest of his stack.

Flack showed A 9 3 2 , having top pair and a spade draw. Alioto held K-Q-10-3, his trip tens in the lead. Alioto was able to dodge the river spade, doubling up and knocking Flack below 2 million in the process.

Flack strikes back.

Flack was first to act and made it 175K to go. Alioto made the call from the button and the others folded. Q 8 7 on the flop and Flack check-raised Alioto for the rest of his stack. Alioto called.

Alioto had picked up a wrap and a flush draw with his 6 5 4 3. Flack held aces, but was looking to fade most of the deck. And fade he did. J on the turn. Q on the river.

Alioto missed his straight and flush possibilities and has been eliminated in 4th-place.

Flack wasted little time getting to heads-up.

Jacobo Fernandez made it 200K to go and Flack called from the BB. After the 10-10-6 flop, Flack potted it and Fernandez moved all in. Flack would insta-call.

Jacobo showed A-A-K-8, for aces up. He was trailing Flack, who's 6-6-4-2 had found a full house on the flop. Fernandez would be looking for an ace or ten to survive, but after the dealer ran out a 4 and a K, Fernandez was done in 3rd-place.

Not all is bad news for Fernandez, who takes over the top spot in the Player of the Year race.

Flack and Markowsky are taking a short break before heads-up play begins. Flack has a 6-1 chip lead.

Four-handed now.

Kyle Kloeckner had gone from the big stack to the short stack in the matter of a couple levels. He was first able to double up through Alioto, turning the nut heart flush to drag the pot. Not long after, Kloeckner would find himself in trouble.

Kloeckner was forced to shove on a 6-2-2-K board and Layne Flack would make the quick call.

Kloeckner turned up K-8-5-2, for deuces full of kings. The crowd was surprised to see that Kloeckner was actually behind, as Flack showed 6-6-5-7 making him sixes full. The Event 24 runner-up wasn't able to manufacture a river suckout and Kloeckner is gone in 6th.

Ted Forrest was the next to fall.

First, Forrest was able to double up.

Flack would make the call from the button and Forrest would move in for his last 130K. Flack would make the call.

Forrest showed A-A-10-3, ahead of the 10-7-7-5 of flack. J-J-Q-A-2 on the board filled up Forrest, who doubled through.

No such luck on the second shove.

Forrest made it 130K from the CO. Both Makowsky and Fernandez would make the call.

The flop fell 4-7-J. Makowsky potted it, forcing Fernandez to muck his hand. Makowsky would turn over J-J-5-5, having flopped top set. Forrest showed A-K-9-8 and would be looking for straight cards to catch up. The 5 turn and 8 river weren't what the five-time bracelet winner was looking for. Ted Forrest is out in 5th-place.

Chip counts:

Layne Flack - 2,135,000
Daniel Makowsky - 1,255,000
Dario Alioto - 735,000
Jacobo Fernandez - 91,000

Players are now returning from a 20-minute break.

Counts:

Layne Flack - 1,873,000
Dario Alioto - 1,695,000
Daniel Makowsky - 643,000
Jacobo Fernandez - 412,000
Ted Forrest - 252,000
Kyle Kloeckner - 127,000

Before the break, Kyle Kloeckner and Ted Forrest did some bleeding. Most of their chips made their way to the stacks of Alioto and Flack, who are breaking away from the pack.

Down to seven.

After Alioto made it 65K to go, Tim West moved his last 150K in fromt he SB. Alioto immediately called.

It was West's Q-Q-7-6 vs. the ugly looking 10-9-7-3 of Alioto. That hand would look a lot prettier after the Doyle-esque 10-2-10 flop. West wasn't able to catch up to Alioto's trips on the remaining streets. Tim West is out in 8th-place.

Guzzardi all in, again.

Once again, Michael Guzzardi was all in and at risk. It was Guzzardi's A-Q-4-4 up against Daniel Makowsky's A K J 7. Guzzardi would leave the 2-3-5 flop with a wheel and a big lead. Makowsky would pick up a club flush draw on the turn, but it wasn't meant to be. Guzzardi has survived his third all in of the day and was now pushing 300K in chips.

Soon after, Guzzardi was at it again.

Guzzardi would pot it from the SB. Flack would call from the button. The dealer fanned out a 2 5 7 flop, triggering an all in from Guzzardi. Flack would make the call.

Guzzardi showed 9 8 J Q , having missed the flop completely. Flack showed K Q 6 4 for a diamond flush draw. That diamond would come in the form of the 6 on the turn. Gruzzardi was drawing dead and out in 7th-place.

Chip counts:

Dario Alioto - 1403000
Layne Flack - 1388000
Daniel Makowsky - 688000
Ted Forrest - 597000
Jacobo Fernandez - 570000
Kyle Kloeckner - 370000

After doubling up Makowsky when he couldn't beat two pair, Kyle Kloeckner now finds himself as the table short stack.

Friday, 20th of June 2008 05:00 PM

Trading the chip lead.

Kloeckner started the day with the big stack. After taking a big pot from Gruzzardi and a small one from Kloeckner, Alioto would take over the chip lead. A big confrontation with Kloeckner would then give the lead to Layne Flack.

Layne Flack 1,115,000
Dario Alioto 1,008,000
Jacobo Fernandez 753,000
Ted Forrest 708,000
Kyle Kloeckner 590,000
Daniel Makowsky 528,000
Michael Guzzardi 214,000
Tim West 180,000

Flack would assume the chip lead after some strong preflop action.

Flack led out for 75K and Kloeckner re-raised to 250K. Flack would then pump it up to 760K, leaving himself only 125K behind. Kloeckner would have to commit the rest of his stack to play. In the end, he decided against it, shipping the pot and the chip lead to Flack.

We've lost our first player.

Not long after dumping a big pot to a 150K river bet by Daniel Makowsky, Frank Vizza found himself all in and at risk vs. Dario Alioto.

Vizza limp-called a 75K raise from Alioto to see the dealer lay out a 9d10d2d flop. Vizza shoved his last 150K and Alioto followed with the insta-call. Vizza turned over 6d4d4s3h, having flopped a flush. Alioto showed Jd3d9cKc for a higher diamond flush. The remaining to cards were of no help to Frank Vizza, who is out in 9th-place.

Tim West survives.

West was all in preflop against Michael Guzzardi, who tabled K-K-Q-5. West showed A-K-10-4 and would be looking for some help. Guzzardi retained the lead through the 9-6-5 flop, but West would take that lead for good after an ace turned. West is now up to 275K after the double up.

Guzzardi would get some of those chips back after he was able to get the rest of his chips in with A-A-A-K and have them hold vs. Alioto. He would give them back a short while later, laying down to a 250K Alioto bet on fourth street.

Chip counts:

Dario Alioto - 883,000
Layne Flack - 882,000
Kyle Kloeckner - 813,000
Daniel Makowsky - 723,000
Ted Forrest - 706,000
Jacobo Fernandez - 639,000
Michael Guzzardi - 244,000
Tim West - 238,000
