JC Tran - 7th place

JC opened for 22k and was called by Brandon, Steve, Jennifer, and Mike. On the flop of 6 5 3 JC moved all in for his last 49k. Brandon and Mike called. Turn was the A and both players checked on the side. River was the K and Brandon bet 80k. Mike folded, so the other two rolled over their hands. JC held pocket Kings for the set on the river. Brandon held pocket Aces for the set on the turn (he had JC drawing dead on the turn, JC just didn't know it).  Brandon collected another $5,000 bounty for JC, leaving Jennifer Harman as the last woman sitting and the last Shooting Star bounty remaining.

JC Tran finished in 8th place, earning $68,000.

That's it! The final table is set. 74:51 remains in this level. Chip counts coming...

I got my 15 minutes on the floor at a good time:

David Tran - 8th place

David Tran raised to 30 and Brandon Cantu called from the button. Both blinds folded and the flop was Q 5 3 . David fired 45k and Brandon called. Turn was the 8 and both checked. River was the A making a back-door flush possible. David fired 100k. After about 60 seconds of thought, Brandon made the call. David tapped his cards on the table. Brandon showed 6 5 for just a pair of 5s and David mucked his hand, shaking his head. Noah Jefferson was watching this and he said "Sick. Sick call".

On the next hand, Brandon raised to 30k, then Steve Sung made it 90k from the button. Back to Brandon, who said "all-in". Steve shook his head and mucked his hand.

Next hand: Jennifer Harman raised to 22k from the button and Brandon called from the big blind. On the flop of Q 5 2 Brandon checked, Jennifer bet 32k. Brandon reached over the line with a full stack of orange (10k) chips and Jennifer mucked her hand before he could complete his raise.

Next hand: All four limped to see the flop of 8 5 3 . Brandon and Steve checked. Jennifer bet 17k. David Tran called, then Brandon kicked it up to 100 smooth. Steve Sung folded, then Jennifer went into the tank. She counted out the chips to call, then seemed to count out chips for a raise, then thought some more. After a few minutes, she mucked. David folded also and Brandon flashed the 8 as he collected the pot. Jennifer said "I play so bad".

David Tran (small blind) and Brandon Cantu (big blind) see a flop of K J 9 . David moved all in for his last 100k. Brandon called, showing QT offsuit for the flopped straight. David shook his head, rolled over K 6 . He was drawing only to the remote possibility of a split pot. Last two cards were A Q and Brandon took yet another pot.

David Tran finished in 8th place earning $68,000.

The final 7 have moved to a single table and will play until one more is busted.

Lee Watkinson - 9th place

Another Matt Savage announcement:

On a board of K 9 3 Q with two clubs, Mike Baker bet 80k, Lee Watkinson raised another 180, and Mike moved all in, putting Lee to the test for all his chips.  Lee tanked for a few minutes, then made the call for his last 480k.  Lee had K Q  for top two pair, but was trailing Mike's pocket 9s (middle set).  Lee needed a King or Queen to survive, but couldn't catch and was busted.

Lee Watkinson finished in 9th place, earning $44,000.

End of level -- take a break!

Thursday, 13th of March 2008 07:17 PM

Jason Gray - 10th place

Another Matt Savage announcement:

Jason Gray was all-in pre-flop with AQ suited and called by Lee Watkinson, who held pocket 9s. The board came 7 4 2 3 J and Jason missed all his outs.

Jason Gray finished in 10th place, earning $44,000.

Thursday, 13th of March 2008 07:05 PM

Thanh Phung - 11th place

Finally! A Matt Savage announcement:

On a flop of 8  5  5, Thanh Phung got all his chips in against Jennifer Harman. Thanh held K T for the flush draw with two overs. Jennifer held A 9  nullifying Thanh's flush draw.  He would need a King or Ten to survive. Last two cards came 4  7  and Jennifer dodged all Thanh's outs to take the pot, ending Thanh's tournament.

Thanh Phung finished in 11th place, earning $33,000.

Thursday, 13th of March 2008 06:50 PM

Apparently someone pointed out to these players that the average stack has over 100 big blinds because they no longer seem to be in a rush to get their chips in the middle of the table. There has yet to be a called all-in, which means no PA announcements. The noise is now limited to the Joe Sebok/Gavin Smith prop betting going on to my left and the rattle and slam of the Pai-Gow dice shakers from the other gaming tables on my right.

Thursday, 13th of March 2008 06:30 PM

Yet another 20 minutes has passed without a single all-in. Oops, wait, I take that back. John Phan did move all-in on the turn once, but did not get called.

Thursday, 13th of March 2008 06:10 PM

In a startling development, they have played for 20 minutes now and not a single all-in has occured.

Thursday, 13th of March 2008 05:50 PM

Thursday, 13th of March 2008 04:24 PM

More all-in announcements by Matt Savage:

Eric Nickelson - 12th place

Five players see the flop for the minimum: 6 6 5. Brandon Cantu lead for 20k and Eric Nickelson moved all in. All the rest dove for cover and Brandon called, showing 76 for trips. Eric held 7 4 and was drawing to his open-ended straight or two runners. Turn was a 4, but not enough. River was a 7 giving Brandon a full house and the pot.

Eric Nickelson finished in 12th place, earning $33,000.

On a flop of J 5 3 , it was checked to Lee Watkinson, who fired 50k at the pot. JC Tran called and the turn was the 7 . JC lead for 70k, Lee moved all-in, and JC called, showing K Q for the flush. Lee held J T (top pair) and was drawing dead. Shooting Star JC Tran doubled up to about 630k.

Thursday, 13th of March 2008 03:58 PM

More all-in announcements by Matt Savage:

Clonie Gowan (14th) and Rich Belsky (13th)

John Phan opened for 15k and Clonie Gowan kicked it up to 50k from the small blind. John called and the flop came 9 8 3 . Clonie moved in and John called, showing Q T for the flush. Clonie held pocket 7s and needed two perfect cards to fill up or make quads. Last two were 6 7 and it was too little, too late for Clonie. She finished in 14th place. With her departure, only one woman remains: Jennifer Harman, who is also one of two remaining Shooting Stars.

Rich called on the button and chip leader Brandon Cantu raised to 25k from the big blind. Rich made the call to see the flop of 9 7 3 . Both checked and the turn was the T . Brandon lead with 30k, Rich raised to 90k and Brandon called. River was the A . Brandon checked, Rich moved all in and Brandon called. Rich held pocket deuces (??) and Brandon showed him AT for two pair to take the pot. Rich Belsky finished in 13th place.

Thursday, 13th of March 2008 03:19 PM

More all-in announcements by Matt Savage:

Ed Fernandez - 15th place

David Tran was all in against Lee Watkinson and David's A K had Lee's A 3 dominated. Then the flop came K 8 7 and Lee was crushed, needing BOTH remaining 3s that were not hearts. Needless to say, that didn't happen and David doubled up.

On the river, the board showed 6 2 2 T 9. Ed Fernandez got all his chips in the middle and was called by Brandon Cantu. Ed showed A2 suited for trip ducks, but Brandon showed 87 off for the straight to bust Ed in 15th place. With that pot, Brandon was up to about 1.75 million and has taken the chip lead from Mike Baker, who has held it all day until now.

Thursday, 13th of March 2008 02:55 PM

More all ins announced:

Dan Morris - 16th place

Noah Jefferson opened for 18k and Dan Morris kicked it up to 59k. Noah moved all in and Dan called all-in, showing pocket Queens. Noah held A K (and you know that the fact that I entered in the suits of that hand mean they're going to be relevant). The board came 7 5 5 T 4 and Noah caught the four-flush to crack the Queens and send Dan home in 16th place.

Eric Nickelson was all in with pocket Jacks againts Rich Belsky's pocket 6s.  The board changed nothing and Eric doubled up.

Thursday, 13th of March 2008 02:35 PM

More all-ins announced:

Paul Niemela (18th) and Chanh Pham (17th)

Paul Niemela made it 27k to go and Brandon Cantu made the call. Flop was T 8 4 and Paul checked. Brandon bet 30k, Paul raised to 80k, and Brandon moved all in. Paul called, showing pocket Aces. Brandon rolled over A 9 for the flush draw. Turn was the 2 which completed Brandon's flush and left Paul drawing dead. Paul earned $24,000 for 18th place.

Chanh moved his last 10k in and got the call from JC Tran. Chanh's K3 off was in a world of hurt against JC's pocket Kings. No help for Chanh on the board and he finished in 17th place.

End of level and time for a break. 16 players remain.

Thursday, 13th of March 2008 02:07 PM

More all-ins announced:

George Panagakis - 19th place

George Panagakis open-shoved and ran into the chip leader, Mike Baker. George's A2 was in bad shape against Mike's AK. Board came Q 8 4 3 8 and Mike too the pot. George was awarded 19th place.

With 18 players remaining, they paused the clock while a redraw took place, then got back to business.

On the A 3 3 flop, David Tran was all-in and called by Chanh Pham.  David's A6 was in bad shape against Chanh's AK.  David would need one of three sixes to avoid elimination.  The last two cards came 7 6 and David caught his 3-outer on the river to double up.

Thursday, 13th of March 2008 01:51 PM

Shooting Star announcement:

Joe Hachem - 20th place

On the turn with the board showing 9 5 6 2, Joe Hachem was all in against Brandon Cantu.  Joe held K9 for top pair and was ahead of Brandon's A6.  Brandon would need an Ace or 6 to take the pot.  It looked like Joe was headed for a double-up, but the Ace landed on the river, passing the sugar to Brandon.  Joe finished in 20th place and Brandon picked up his fourth bounty of this tournament. With Joe's exit, there are only two bounties remaining: Jennifer Harman and JC Tran.

Thursday, 13th of March 2008 01:46 PM

Here are the latest all-in announcements:

Thanh Che - 21st place

On a flop of 8 6 5 with two clubs, Thanh Che got all-in with A 3 (flush draw). Ed Fernandez held A 8 for top pair. Thanh would need another to survive. The last two cards were offsuit Q 5 and Thanh was busted in 21st place.

Eric Nickelson was all in with KQ and called by Lee Watkinson, who held 54. Board came K 5 3 K x and Eric doubled up.

Thursday, 13th of March 2008 01:24 PM

Things finally slowed down as the final 22 players got down to some serious poker. The all-ins are still coming, but not as quickly as they were before. Here are the latest all-in announcements:

Andrew Robl - 22nd place

Steve Sung was all-in against Jason Gray -- Steve picked off Jason's bluff with two pair.

Clonie Gowan was all-in against chip leader Mike Baker with AJ vs. Mike's AT, but it ended up being a split pot.

JC Tran got his chips in against Jason Gray. Both held top pair, but Jason had the better kicker. JC had the flush re-draw, though, and he hit it on the river to double up -- to about 200k.

On a flop of A J 9 rainbow, Chanh Pham got all in against Thanh Phung. Chanh's AK had Thanh's AQ out-kicked. Last two cards were 6 5 and Chanh doubled up.

Andrew Robl got his last chips in pre-flop with KQ and ran smack into the chip leader, Mike Baker, who held AT. Board came 9 7 3 T A and Mike took the pot, sending Andrew to the rail in 22nd place.

The board read K K 6 9 7 and Paul Niemela shipped his last 107k into the pot. JC Tran went into the tank for several minutes, but eventually called. Paul showed Q 7 for the flush to double up. JC was left with only about 70k.

Jennifer Harman got all in with pocket Kings against John Phan's KJ. No suckout for John and Jen doubled up to ~180k.

Thursday, 13th of March 2008 12:21 PM

Another all-in announced:

Rich Belsky was all in with pocket 8s against Eric Nickelson's pocket Jacks. It looked like Rich was about to be railed, but an 8 hit the flop to give him the set. Eric picked up a flush draw, but it didn't come through and Rich doubled up.

Ted Forrest - 25th place

On a flop of K Q 4, Blair Hinkle got it all in the middle with AK (top pair) against Paul Niemela's JT (open-ender). Last two cards were 3 Q and Blair doubled up.

With the board showing 7 6 5, defending champ and Shooting Star Ted Forrest got his last chips in with 63 (middle pair & guthsot) . Eric Nickelson's 76 (two pair) had him in bad shape. Ted needed a 4 to survive, but the board ran out K A and that's the end of our defending champ. He earned 25th place. Eric earned $5,000 for busting him.

Thanh Phung got all-in with AQ and called by Ed Fernandez, who held a dominated AT. Board came J 8 4 6 K and Thanh doubled up.

There was an all-in hand in progress just as the level ended.  At the river, the board read J 6 5 2 A  and Blair moved all-in.  Jason Gray made the call.  Blair held pocket Jacks for the flopped set, but Jason held A Q  for the flopped flush.  Blair Hinkle finished in 24th place.

23 players remain and they are now enjoying a 15 minute break.

Thursday, 13th of March 2008 11:34 AM

More all-in announcements:

Jimmy Tran - 27th place

Joe Hachem was all in with AK against Brandon Cantu's pocket Tens. An Ace hit the flop and Joe doubled up.

Lu Wang shoved his last chips in with A2 and got Lee Watkinson's call with KJ. Although Lu was in the lead, a King hit the flop and by the river Lee had a straight. Lu headed straight for 29th place.

JP Byrne never appeared to play his 30k in chips, so the last one went into the pot without him. Jason Gray won the pot and the invisible man finished in 28th place.

Jimmy Tran moved in with AJ only to run into a dominating hand, AQ, in the possession of George Panagakis. Jimmy picked up a gutshot on the flop of Q T 6, but the board finished out 7 7 and George took the pot. Jimmy took 27th place.

Matt Holtzclaw shoved with AQ and was racing against Thanh Che's pocket 8s. Board came K 9 5 7 T and the 8s held up to ship the pot to Thanh. Matt was rewarded with 26th place.

On the turn with a board of 8 5 2 9, Lee Watkinson pushed and got looked up by John Phan. Lee's pocket Jacks were crushing John's pocket 7s, with one card to come. River was a deuce and Lee doubled up.

On a flop of Q T 5 , Paul Niemela shipped it to the middle and Blair Hinkle made the call. Blair's K Q (top pair) was trailing Paul's T 5 (two pair). Last two were T 6 and Paul boats-up and doubles-up.

A 9 7 on the board and Lee Watkinson ships it again. Dan Morris calls, showing AK for top pair, top kicker, but Lee held 97 ("the destoyer") for two pair. Last two were T 3 and Lee doubled up again.

Thursday, 13th of March 2008 11:16 AM

More all-in announcements:

Anna Wroblewski - 30th place

Paul Wasicka got his chips in the middle with AK, only to get shown Dan Morris' pocket Aces. No miracle suckout here and Paul hit the rail in 34th place.

Neil Webber busted out in 33rd place.

Tim Foster got his chips in the middle in great shape with pocket Aces against Noah Jefferson's pocket 8s. It looked like Tim was headed for the double-up, but the poker gods were not cooperating. An 8 hit the flop giving Noah the set and Tim couldn't catch up. Tim gets 32nd place.

With A 9 7 J on the board, Noah Jefferson fired 20k and Kent Washington shipped his whole stack in. Noah called him down, showing pocket 7s for the set. Kent only held JT for a pair of Jacks with a gutshot. River was a 6 and Kent was eighty-sixed in 31st place.

Chanh Pham got all-in with pocket Jacks against Thanh Phung, who held AQ. The board came K 4 3 4 5 and Chanh doubled up.

Anna Wroblewski got her chips in with pocket Queens against Andrew Robl's AQ. Although she had him dominated, an Ace hit the flop and that was all he needed to bust the last. Anna finished 30th.

Thursday, 13th of March 2008 10:53 AM

Matt Savage is announcing the called all-ins today, and they're coming very fast!

Layne Flack having some fun with Lee Watkinson

Robert Cheung wasted no time getting his chips involved in a tangle with Brandon Cantu. On a flop of Q T 2, Robert shipped his stack to the middle and Brandon looked him up.  Robert's J9 offsuit was trailing Brandon's AQ off (top pair).   Robert had the open-ended draw and needed a King or 8 to survive. Last two cards came 3 7, however, and Robert was busted in 36th place. Brandon chipped up to about 450k.

On a flop of J T 7, Layne Flack got his chips in the middle against Michael Migdol. Layne held KQ for the open-ender and two overs; Michael held AQ for two overs, Ace-high, and was ahead. Layne would need an Ace or 9 to survive, but the last two cards came K 7, giving Michael the straight and the pot, along with the $5,000 Shooting Star bounty. Layne gets 35th place.

Thursday, 13th of March 2008 10:35 AM
