| Eric 'Rizen' Lynch | |
Julian Thew doubled up when his pocket 8s survived a race against AK. That pot put Julian at about 340k. Josh Arieh got his last chips in with AQ only to get called down by Jon Friedberg who held AK. The best hand held up and Josh was jilted. Just before the end of play, Eric 'Rizen' Lynch called an all-in with pocket Kings. His opponent had a flush draw, gutshot, and overcard (Ace) but he faded all those outs on the river and the Kings held up, shipping a huge pot to Eric and making his the last minute end-of-day-2 chip leader with ~527k. That's a wrap for level 12 and the end of play for today. About 159 players have survived of the 478 that started today. When the player list with chips counts is available, it will be posted here. Once again we have been told not to expect the list before morning. Monday, 07th of January 2008 07:39 PM Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier just became the first player to crack the 400k mark when he raced his AK against a player all-in with pocket Queens. A King came on the river to ship the huge pot to ElkY, giving him about 410k. Monday, 07th of January 2008 07:18 PM

| Jon Friedberg | |
Daniel Negreanu has been short-stacked all day and finally got his last chips in with Q J only to run into pocket Aces. No miracles and Daniel's day is done. Jon Friedberg has joined the 300-club. He's now up to about 305k. On the flop with a board of Q 8 6 , Seat 9 bet 17,500 and Josh Arieh thought for a bit, then called. Turn was the 9 and seat 9 fired 35k. Josh called, leaving himself with only about 40k behind. River was the 3 and seat 9 announced all-in. Josh mucked his hand in frustration. Barry Greenstein made it 12k to go on a flop of K 9 3 and seat 8 made the call. Turn was the 9 and both checked. River was the 4 and Barry tossed out 4 blue chips making it 20k to call, but seat 8 surrendered and Barry took the pot without showdown. After stacking those chips, Barry was up to about 135k. 19 tables remain - 171 players. Average is about 133,000. Monday, 07th of January 2008 06:48 PM Level 12: Blinds 1,500/3k with 400 antes. Play has resumed. This will be the last level of play for today. Monday, 07th of January 2008 06:28 PM 2006 PCA Champ Steve Paul-Ambrose got his chips in with pocket 7s and was up against AQ suited. It was vitually over on the flop of A K K and Steve couldn't catch a miracle. William Thorsson won a huge all-in pot with pocket Queens against AQ and he is now teasing the 300k mark. Eric 'Rizen' Lynch won a huge pot, busting a player in the process. I waited while he added the chips to his already impressive stack and he's now sitting on about 330k. Just before the end of the level, Duy Le lost a large pot, so we believe that Rizen has once again risen to the top of the heap to take the chip lead. Level 11 has ended. Roughly 188 players remain. Average is now about 121k. Monday, 07th of January 2008 05:46 PM

| Duy Le | |
I neglected to mention that 2005 WSOP Main Event Champ Joe Hachem was busted out of the tournament during the previous level. His autograph has now been added to the souvenier soccer ball. If you would like to own this keepsake, check out the details in the 12:21pm post in today's blog. David Redlin ran his pocket Tens into pocket Kings and was busted. 2003 WSOP Main Event Champ Chris Moneymaker moved his last chips in with second pair and a flush draw, only to be shown the made nut flush. Chris will not be making any money in this tournament. Duy Le has moved into the chip lead with ~360k. David 'Dragon' Pham, who is seated at the same table, has grown his stack to 307k. These two are the only players I can find currently over the 300k mark. Johan Bergqvist is not too far off the mark with ~270k. Monday, 07th of January 2008 05:15 PM Level 11: Blinds 1,200/2,400 with 300 antes. Play has resumed. 243 players remain making the average almost 93,500. Monday, 07th of January 2008 04:59 PM End of level 10 -- take 15! Monday, 07th of January 2008 04:36 PM David "Boomer" Wells called all in after two other players had moved in. Boomer held KQ and was facing two smaller pairs, but couldn't catch the paint he needed as the board blanked. For those of you scoring at home, that's E-1 and Boomer is outta here. Isabelle Mercier made a desperation push with A2 only to get looked up by A8. No mercy here and she was bounced. Jonathan Drane got his last chips in good, but his opponent caught a 3-outer on the river to bust him. Tom McEvoy got his last chips in with pocket 7s only to face pocket Kings. No miracle and Tom is toast. Monday, 07th of January 2008 04:31 PM

| Eric 'Rizen' Lynch | |
On the river with the board showing Q 5 2 A 6 , seat 9 checked to Josh Arieh, who fired 23k. Seat 9 went into the tank for several minutes, then finally called. Josh said 'King high" and seat 9 showed pocket Tens (both black) to take the pot. Duy Le has ~235k. Jared Mahoney is up to ~259k. It appears that Eric 'Rizen' Lynch is the chip leader with ~284k. Monday, 07th of January 2008 03:40 PM Level 10: Blinds 1k/2k with 300 antes. Play has resumed. Here are some folks who won't be coming back: Chad Batista, Noah Boeken, and Alex Bolotin. | Christian Harder | |
Thor Hansen moved in for 19,200 under-the-gun and got called by seat 2. Thor's AK off was racing pocket 9s, but it was a short race as a King was the door card. Board came K Q 4 7 Q and Thor doubled up. After a short stack moved in with Jacks, Christian Harder woke up with Aces which held up. After stacking those chips, Christian was up to about 253k and I believe he is the current chip leader. End of level 9 and time for another break. 288 players remain making the average around 79k. Here are some chip estimates I gathered before the break: |
| Eric 'Rizen' Lynch | 250,000 | | Diego Perez | 205,000 | | Asa Smith | 200,000 | | Briand Lindsay | 196,000 | | David 'Dragon' Pham | 112,000 | | Chris Moneymaker | 110,000 | | Tony Cousineau | 100,000 | | Hevad Khan | 94,000 | | Barry Greenstein | 85,000 | | Daniel Negreanu | 70,000 | | Tom McEvoy | 60,000 | | Jon Friedberg | 60,000 | | Steve Paul-Ambrose | 53,000 | | David 'Boomer' Wells | 48,000 | | Isabelle Mercier | 18,000 |

| Bill Edler - felted | |
Victor Ramdin raised from the button and Bill Edler popped it again from the small blind. Back to Victor, who re-re-raised and Bill moved all in. Victor was pot committed and called, having Bill covered. Bill showed pocket Kings and it looked like he was headed for a double-up since Victor turned over 54 offsuit (I don't make this stuff up, folks). The poker gods can be fickle, however, as 8 7 6 hit the board giving Victor a straight and all of Bill's chips. Victor is now up to about 83k. 333 players remain. Average is over 68k now. Monday, 07th of January 2008 02:20 PM Level 9: Blinds 800/1,600 with 200 antes. Play has resumed. During the previous break, they colored up the green 25 chips. Monday, 07th of January 2008 02:00 PM Level 8 has concluded and players are taking a break. Now the info you've all been waiting for: payouts have finally been announced! 1,136 players generated a total prize pool of $8,594,976. The top 120 will get paid as follows: |
| 1 | $2,000,000 | | 2 | $1,094,976 | | 3 | $ 800,000 | | 4 | $ 600,000 | | 5 | $ 450,000 | | 6 | $ 300,000 | | 7 | $ 200,000 | | 8 | $ 150,000 | | 9 | $ 120,000 | | 10 | $ 104,000 | | 11 | $ 96,000 | | 12 | $ 88,000 | | 13 | $ 80,000 | | 14 | $ 72,000 | | 15 | $ 64,000 | | 16 | $ 56,000 | | 17 - 24 | $ 48,000 | | 25 - 32 | $ 40,000 | | 33 - 40 | $ 32,000 | | 41 - 50 | $ 24,000 | | 51 - 120 | $ 16,000 |
Monday, 07th of January 2008 01:52 PM Humberto Brenes moved in under-the-gun and got looked up by David 'the Dragon' Pham in the small blind. Humberto got his shark in high-gear as he showed his KT offsuit. David's pocket 6s were ahead. The board came 9 9 8 3 Q and the shark could not hook either of his overcards to save his tournament life. The shark was last seen swimming toward the rail. Monday, 07th of January 2008 01:29 PM Nick Schulman got his last ~7k in against two callers, who checked it down. One showed pocket Tens and Nick mucked his hand and headed for the door. Erik Cajelais ran his pocket Tens into David Redlin's pocket Kings and shipped about half his chips across the table. Shortly after, Erik got his last chips in with A9 off, only to run into pocket Aces. Just like that, Erik became another casualty. Kathy Liebert got her last chips in with AK, only to find herself up against pocket Kings. Kathy joined the growning list of chipless and chairless. Monday, 07th of January 2008 01:20 PM After a late position raise from Sam Chartier, Brian Dodsworth put ihs last 6,775 all in from the small blind. Sam made the call, showing AJ off to lead Brian's K9 off. Board came A 7 6 Q Q and Brian was felted. Jeremy Menard doubled through Chris Crawford when his pocket Kings morphed into quads on the turn. Christphe Benzimra check-raised Robert Weiss all-in on the flop of A J 3 rainbow. After a couple of minutes in the tank, Robert made the call, showing pocket Kings. Christophe's AQ had him in bad shape. Last two cards were 5 Q and Robert joined the crowd gathering at the rail. John 'the Razor' Phan is gone -- not sure what happened there, but he started the day short-stacked. 43 tables remain, so at most 387 players are still alive. Average stack is approaching 59k. Monday, 07th of January 2008 12:46 PM Arnaud Mattern got his last ~20K in with pocket Jacks, only to run into pocket Kings. The EPT Prague champ was dispatched just before the end of level 7. Level 8: Blinds 600/1,200 with 150 antes. Play continues. Monday, 07th of January 2008 12:21 PM
