They saw the flop for the minimum: Q 4 3 . Ray bet 25k, TJ raised 55k, Ray came over the top for 150k and TJ called. The turn was the 7 and they got all the chips in the middle. Ray held Q 9 for top pair, but TJ held Q 7 for two pair and the lead. The river was the A and TJ took the pot. The stacks were very close and had to be counted down. In the end, Ray was left with only 57k.

Ray Henson - 2nd place

On the next hand, the 167th hand of heads-up play, Ray moved all-in and TJ called. Ray's K3 off was trailing TJ's A6 off. The board came 9 7 6 2 9 and it IS OVER!

TJ Cloutier wins the Scotty Nguyen Poker Challenge IV Main Event, earning $240,560 and the championship bracelet. This is TJ's 60th major poker title.

Ray Henson finished in 2nd place, earning $138,322.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 06:49 PM

The worm has turned. On a flop of 9 8 2 , Ray bet 85k and TJ moved all-in. Ray spent a couple of minutes thinking, then called all-in for 429k, showing Q 7 for the flush draw with one over-card. TJ held J T for the open-ended straight draw, needing, ironically, a Queen or 7, so TJ had one of Ray's outs and Ray had two of TJ's. It was all over when the K hit the turn to complete Ray's flush and double-up.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 06:31 PM

TJ opened for 65k and Ray came over the top for another 95k. TJ announced "All-In" (the first of heads-up play) and Ray went into the tank. After a couple of minutes, Ray stacked up his chips and acted like he was going to push them forward, then stopped (a move I like to call the push-fake). TJ flinched a little, but I don't know if Ray noticed or what it meant to him, but Ray decided to surrender.

TJ opened for 65k and Ray announced "all-in". TJ flashed an Ace and folded.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 06:17 PM

They're playing a lot of small pots, pushing chips back and forth. No one has been all-in since they started heads-up play, but with over 30x the big blind, there is no reason to be all in. TJ is holding steady at about 1.2 million, which leaves just under 700k for Ray.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 06:03 PM

Ray surrendered one pot to TJ's river bet. The next hand he called the river, only to get shown the best hand. Just like that, TJ is back over 1.3 million.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 05:54 PM

At the river with a board of J 9 2 A 8 , Ray fired 81k and TJ made the call. Ray tabled Q T for the straight to take the pot. TJ now has just over 1 million chips.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 05:48 PM

Level 18 has begun. Blinds are 10k/20k with 2k antes.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 05:37 PM

Another level has ended. TJ and Ray are taking a break. Chip counts:

TJ Cloutier1,264,000
Ray Henson616,000

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 05:28 PM

Ray bet 31k and TJ raised another 70k on top. Ray made the call and the flop came J T 7 . Both checked to see the turn: Q . TJ bet 100k and Ray released his hand.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 05:18 PM

TJ raised to 31k, Ray popped it again for another 58k and TJ made the call. Flop came Q 7 3 . Ray checked, TJ fired 45k and Ray called. Turn was the J and both checked. River was the 5 . Ray bet 100k. TJ took about a minute, then mucked his A J face-up, lamenting all the outs he had that didn't come. Ray got some chips back, but TJ still has about 1.1 million and the lead.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 05:11 PM

TJ just rivered a straight to crack Ray's trip Queens and pull another big pot. TJ now has about 1.3 million to Ray's 560k.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 04:55 PM

TJ has the button and bets 20k on the flop of Q 8 4 . Ray check-raises him another 40k and TJ makes the call. Turn is the K and both check. River is the K and Ray checks, TJ bets ~80k and Ray mucks. TJ makes the courtesy-show of 7 5 for the turned flush.

With that pot, TJ is up to about 960k and has pulled slightly ahead of Ray.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 04:44 PM

Early in heads-up action, TJ has taken a couple of pots from Ray without showdown and built his stack to almost 800k.

On a flop of T 7 5 , Ray bet 35k and Brant moved all-in for about 100k more. Ray made the call showing K T for top pair. Brant was behind with Q 7 for middle pair. Brant was looking at his last hand if he didn't get lucky. Last two cards came J A and that's it for Brant.

Brant Hale finished in 3rd place, earning $72,168.

So it comes down to two Young Guns and an Old Rounder. At 68 years young, TJ is older than both of his opponents put together (Ray is 29 and Brant is 23).

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 03:54 PM

Gavin Smith - 4th place

On the turn with the board showing 6 7 J 8, Gavin bet 95k and Ray called. River was a 4 and Gavin bet 240k, Ray moved all in, and Gavin called, showing 95 for the 9-high straight. Ray showed T9 for the Jack-high straight to take the pot.

Gavin Smith finished in 4th place, earning $42,098.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 03:45 PM

Gavin raised to 23k and got two callers. They all checked down the board of K T 8 T 8. Gavin showed A 5 and Brant showed A J . They will both play the two pair on board with their Ace kickers and split the pot.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 03:34 PM

On the turn with the board showing 6 4 3 J, Gavin checked, Brant bet 36k, and Gavin jacked it up to 106k. (Both players had checked the flop.) Brant folded quickly, surrendering the pot. Gavin said "You want me to show you?" and then turned over pocket Jacks for the set.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 03:21 PM

Noah Nodine - 5th place

Noah moved in for 67k and got called by Ray. Noah held pocket Tens and was ahead of Ray's AQ, but the board came A 6 3 7 2 giving Ray the pot and the last of Noah's chips.

Noah Nodine finished in 5th place, earning $33,077.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 03:15 PM

Daniel Robertson - 6th place

Gavin vs. Danny. On a flop of A J 6 Gavin bet 11k and Danny called. Turn was another Ace, Gavin bet 27k and Danny called. River was an offsuit 4 and Gavin bet 100k, which Danny called. Gavin showed 5 4 and Danny mucked. Gavin took the pot to go over 250k. Danny was left with ~150k.

Next hand: Gavin took another pot from Danny when he bet 30k on the river with the board showing A J 3 5 6. Danny called and Gavin showed A8 off; Danny mucked.

On the next hand, Danny moved all in and got called by Ray, who held pocket Kings. Danny held pocket Jacks and was in bad shape. Board came Q T 4 3 8 and just like that, Danny was done.

Daniel Robertson finished in 6th place, earning $27,063.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 03:08 PM

Gil George - 7th place

In a battle of the blinds, Gil (bb) got all-in against TJ (sb). Gil's A7 off was ahead of TJ's T6 off. The flop was 7 9 9 improving Gil's hand to two pair. The turn was a Queen, helping no one. Jimmy said "TJ's gonna need a Ten or an 8 or Gil will double up" so of course the river was an 8. TJ took the pot with the straight and Gil was finally eliminated.

Gil George finished in 7th place, earning $21,049.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 02:56 PM

The two big stacks get tangled up in a pot. On the river with the board showing 9 9 Q 3 2, Ray bet 61k and TJ called quickly. Ray showed Q9 off for the flopped full house and TJ mucked.

On the next hand, Gavin moved all in (utg) for 68k and got called by Noah. Gavin's KQ off needed help to beat Noah's A9 off. The board came 8 4 2 6 and Jimmy says "Gavin's gonna need a King or Queen to survive" and BAM! The river was the Queen and Gavin doubled up. He said "Who didn't know that was coming?"

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 02:54 PM

Level 16: Blinds 4k/8k with 1k antes. Cards are back in the air.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 02:41 PM

Two hands later, they're at the river with the board showing 6 6 3 J 9 . Danny (sb) shoved out a 100k stack of orange chips. Ray only hesitated a couple of beats before saying "call". "Good call" says Danny as he tabled Q T for nothing but Quen-high. Ray rolled over the 4 3 for a pair of treys to take the pot and get a good bit of his chips back.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 02:38 PM

Danny opened for 17k up front and Ray made the call from the cutoff. Flop came K Q 6 . Danny checked, Ray fired 28k and Danny called. Turn was the 3 . Again Danny checked, Ray fired 53k, and after a bit of shuffling, Danny announced all-in (for a bit under 200k more). Ray mucked his hand and was left with about 300k as Danny pulled the pot.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 02:19 PM

On a flop of 8 6 5 , Ray (sb) lead for 18k, TJ (bb) bumped it to 60k, then Noah (button) moved all in for 90k. Ray thought about it for a couple of minutes, then folded. TJ made the call and Noah turned up his 6 5 for two pair. TJ thought he had the same hand (65) but when he turned up his hand, it was actually 7 6 for one pair with the open-ended draw. He said "I thought I had two pair," then the dealer turned the 7 and he said "Now I do." Noah looked defeated and put his head down on the table, but the river was the 9 , which gave them both the straight -- they split the pot.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 02:02 PM

Gil moved all in (for the 4th time) and got called by both Danny and Ray, who checked down the board of 9 4 2 3 3. At the river, Gil showed pocket 6s and the other two mucked. Gil survived again and tripled up!

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 01:49 PM

Danny got all in with pocket 8s and called by TJ who had him crushed with pocket Aces. Of course poker is sometimes a cruel game. The board came 8 7 4 3 K and Danny made a set of 8s to double up to about 250k. This was TJ's first hit of the day, but he's still got over 400k and is in good shape.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 01:43 PM

Things have settled down again now. No one is splashing around very much. Ray just raised the pot under the gun and got called by Noah in the big blind. They checked down the board of 7 6 4 8 2 and at the river, Noah fired 21k. After about a half-minute, Ray made the crying call. Noah showed pocket 8s for the set to take the pot.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 01:30 PM

Level 15: Blinds 3k/6k with 1k antes. Play has resumed.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 01:12 PM

After Ray opened the pot, Gil moved all in for the third time. Ray made the call showing J 8 . Gil was ahead with the A T . The board came A K Q 6 6 and Gil survived (again!) and doubled up.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 12:58 PM

Scotty Nguyen - 8th place

Scotty got his chips in with Q J and TJ made the call with pocket Tens. The flop came Q J T giving Scotty top two pair, but giving TJ the set to keep the lead. Scotty would need another Queen or Jack to survive, but the board ran out 5 6 and TJ continues to mow down the field.

Scotty Nguyen finished in 8th place, earning $15,035.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 12:47 PM

Bill Edler - 9th place

Bill Edler got his short stack all in with Q 9 but ran into TJ's buzzsaw again. TJ held pocket Kings and Bill was in bad shape. The board came T 3 2 A 5 and Bill shipped the rest of his chips over to TJ, who is now the chip leader.

Bill Edler ("the Stunning One") finished in 9th place, earning $12,028.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 12:36 PM

TJ and Bill took a flop for a 17k raise. On the flop of T 7 3 , TJ bet 17k, Bill announced all in, and TJ called quickly, tabling 6 5 for the flush draw with gutshot straight-flush draw. Bill said "uh oh" and turned over T 7 for top two pair. TJ was all-in for 184,500. Bill was in the lead, but TJ could win with any heart except the Ten, or any 4. Turn was the K and changed nothing. River was the 4 completing TJ's straight and doubling him up. Bill was left with less than 50k.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 12:33 PM

Noah bumped it to 17k and again Gil moved in. Noah made the call and then both players tabled AK offsuit. No four-flush came and they chopped the pot.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 12:26 PM

Things have been relatively quiet, until now. Gil moved his last 16k all in under the gun and was quickly called by Bill. Everyone else got out of the way. Gil showed A 9 and was badly dominated by Bill's A Q . The flop came J T 3 and not much help to Gil. The 2 on the turn was also not much help. Just as soon as Jimmy Sommerfeld announced "Gil will need a 9 on the river to survive," the dealer burned and rivered the 9 to double Gil up.

Tuesday, 20th of November 2007 12:03 PM

Introductions have been completed and cards are in the air.

What an incredible lineup we have at this final table! Who would have expected this! Just take a look at the players facing off:

Seat 1:  Scotty Nguyen

Scotty is not only the Poker Ambassador for this Cherokee Casino here in Tulsa, he is also hosting this event.  To make the final table is quite an accomplishment, but Scotty makes it seem like just another day at the office.   He's been playing poker professionally for 20 years.  Among his numerous accomplishments are finishing 11th in the 2007 WSOP Main Event and winning the 1998 WSOP Main Event.  He has a total of 4 WSOP bracelets to his credit and also won the World Poker Open WPT Title in January 2006.  In his own words, he is "the greatest poker player ever live".  Scotty brings 119,000 chips to this final table.

Seat 2: Ray Henson

Ray is not nearly as well known, but was seen on ESPN recently as he finished 12th at this year's WSOP Main Event (busting out just before Scotty).  He's got almost half a million in earnings so far and I expect that figure to grow a good bit.  He's been playing professionally for 8 years.  He's the chip leader coming to the final table with 409,500 chips.

Seat 3:  TJ Cloutier

If anyone can give Scotty a run for his money in poker accomplishments, it's TJ Cloutier.  He's been playing for 35 years and has racked up quite a poker resume. He's got 6 WSOP bracelets and is a member of the Poker Hall of Fame.  He's got 255,000 chips coming to the final table.

Seat 4:  Gil George

Gil is a commercial real estate agent from Dallas, Texas.  He's made several final tables, including an 8th place finish in an early event at the 2007 WSOP, but has yet to book a big win.  He's the short stack with only 31,500 and has his work cut out for him.

Seat 5: Gavin Smith

One of the best tournament professionals never to win a WSOP bracelet, Gavin still has a huge list of poker accomplishments.  He was the Season 4 WPT Player of the Year and won his WPT Title at the Mirage.  With 284,500 chips, his unpredictable playing style is always a threat.

Seat 6:  Bill Edler

2007 has been Bill's year.  His face is on the cover of the Card Player magazine sitting in the racks right now in the casino -- how intimidating is that?!?!  He started the year off winning the Poker NetCast Heads-Up Challenge, then proceeded to win his first WSOP bracelet in the short-handed event this summer and finish 23rd in the WSOP Main Event.  Just a couple of months later, he picked up his first WPT Title at the inaugural event at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi, MS.  With three major titles and almost $3 million in earnings already this year, he's 2nd in the Player of the Year race and could pick up some points here today.  He's coming to the final table with 283,000 chips.

Seat 7:  Daniel Robertson

Daniel (Danny) hails from Alma, Arkansas, and is a local favorite here in OK.  He won the first Scotty Nguyen Poker Challenge in November 2005, and two other small events here in Oklahoma, but is still waiting for his first big score.  He's got 203,500 chips coming to the final table.

Seat 8:  Brant Hale

Brant is another local from Norman, OK.  He's already cashed twice in preliminary events here at the SNPC IV and his will be his third cash.  At only 23 years of age, he's been playing poker professionally for 2 years now.  His stack sits at 128,500.

Seat 9:  Noah Nodine

Noah is a Pharmaceutical Sales Rep from Norman, OK, but still has some impressive results.  He took down one of the preliminary events here, cashing for over $20k.  He's also cashed at the WSOP, in 2006.  He brings 151,000 chips to this final table.
