Dan Harrington Takes First Place at the World Poker Tour

485 players all took their own shot at becoming the next Legend of Poker. Many of today’s top players were in the field including: Doyle Brunson, Barry Greenstein, Mark Seif, Mike Matusow, and Joe Sebok.
Once the two day 1’s combined, many of these players would fall by the wayside, except one. Joe Sebok came into day 3 with a small stack but managed to take the lead. But, late in the game, with only seven players remaining, Joe would become the bubble boy for the t.v. table and our final 6 was set for the next day.

Once we got to the t.v. table, the action picked up quickly. Jack Liu was one of the short stacks and needed to make a move quick. Jack had the button in seat 1, David Pham raised from middle position to 120,000, Liu moved all in from the button for 360,000, Harrington reraised from the small blind to 750,000, and Pham folds. Liu held A J , but Harrington was in the lead with Q Q .
The flop came J 5 5 , and Liu picked up some additional outs when he paired his jack. He needed any ace or a jack. The turn card was a 6 , the river card was a 4 , and Dan Harrington wins the pot with two pair, queens and fives.

David Pham was on the button in seat 5, Nguyen raised from the cutoff to 200,000, and McClain reraised from the small blind to 600,000. Thu Nguyen decided to make his move all in, and McClain called all in for 1,045,000 with A-Q . Nguyen held pocket J's, and we are off to the races.
The flop dropped K-J-2 , and Nguyen flopped the monstrous set. McClain picked up a gutshot straight draw, and he needed a 10. The turn came the 2, and Nguyen made a full house to take down the hand. The 4 on the river meant nothing, and Nguyen wins the pot with jacks full of deuces.

Tom Schneider came into the day as the chip leader, but lost several key hands to put himself on the short stack.
Tom was on the button and decided to make his move all-in. Thu Nguyen folded and the action was on David Pham who insta-called and tabled pocket K's. Tom held the A-9 and they were off to the flop of J-10-9. Tom would need any A or a 9 to take control of the hand, but the turn was another 10.
The river was Tom's last hope, but the 6 was enough to give David the pot and Tom Schneider finished the night in 4th place earning $228,625. (Click Here For an Exclusive Audio Exit Interview)

David Pham raised on the button to 400k, Dan Harrington folded and the action was over to Thu Nguyen. Thu announced that he was all-in and David made the quick call with A-Q versus the A-5 of Thu.
The flop was J-7-3, and the A-Q was still in the lead. The turn card was the K and the river 3 was enough to send Thu off the stage in 3rd place earning $388,660. (Click here For an Exclusive Audio Exit Interview)

The heads up play lasted for 3 hours before the fireworks finally came.
On a flop of 4-5-10, Dan Harrington fired out 400k and David Pham instantly called. The turn was an A and Dan fired out 1 million. Pham wasted no time in calling and turned over the 7-5 for the pair, while Harrington had David drawing stone dead with the 10-5.
David Pham sank down in his chair and tossed out his chips in defeat and the river card was a meaningless J as Dan Harrington became our champion earning his $25k seat to the championship and the $1.6 million payday.
Dan Harrington is the next Legend of Poker.

Bio
Dan Harrington is a jack of all trades. Not only is he an incredibly successful poker player, but he is a former U.S. backgammon champion, a chess master, and a lawyer. Dan was also part of a team of MIT students that, using mathematics, correctly calculated odds for roulette and beat the game in the process.
Harrington is still active in the stock market and in real estate, owns the Anchor Loan company which employs primarily professional poker players. Dan boasts that of all they loans the company has made, they have suffered 0% loss.
So with his success both on and off the table, what is Dan's motivation at the table? He has this to say: "I'm there for the money. You can keep the glory." |
