Main Event - day 2
Monday, 27th of August 2007 11:46 PM

We are now down to 54 players.

Monday, 27th of August 2007 11:45 PM

Brian Powell limped under the gun for 4,000 and is instantly re-raised by Pam Brunson who moved all in for about 60,000. Tom Schneider puts in a re-raise from the button which gets both blinds to fold. Action is back to Powell who insta-calls for his remaining 67,500. Brian held the rockets, while Tom had pocket Q's and Pamela had A-J. The 6-3-2-5-K board couldn't help Pamela and she has been sent home late in day 2.

Blinds are at 2k-4k with a 500 ante. We are down to 70 players sitting at 8 tables.

We have entered into the last hour of play and the chipleader is still Adam Geyer with 390k. Close behind him is Lee Markholt and Barry Greenstein with roughly 355k each. Tom Schneider is steadily climbing the ladder with 345k.

Ciaran O'Leary moved all in against Lee Markholt who eventually made the call showing K-Q and O'Leary reluctantly tabled K-10. Markholt's kicker held up and he eliminated O'Leary. After the hand, Markholt was up to 360,000.

Monday, 27th of August 2007 10:16 PM

"Miami" John Cernuto must be on cloud 9 right now. On a flop of 7-9-9, Gavin Smith checked his action over to Cernuto who fired out a bet and Gavin moved all-in. Cernuto called and turned up his pocket J's versus the pocket 7's and full house of Gavin. The turn was a brick, but the river 9 turned the tables on Gavin giving Cernuto the better full house. That hand sent Gavin to the rail.

Ciaran O'Leary just took a trip down to the river with his opponent. Once they got there, the board read K-4-Q-J-K and Ciaran made a bet. His opponent moved all-in and O'Leary insta-called with K-Q for the full house and his opponent had been holding pocket A's. Ciaran claims one more.

You got somethin' to say to me Lassy?

Adam Geyer is currently our chipleader with over 309k and holding strong. He's at the same table as Ciaran and Joe Sebok.

I'm outside taking a break and David Pham walks out quickly to catch a smoke. I ask him how he's doing in the tournament and he tells me that he has 204k. He also recounts a hand that happend a few short moments ago where he made an opponent lay down a big hand preflop. He tells me that the guy only has 7,500 after he raised to 4,500. David glances down at a pair of 5's and reraises to 9k which would almost put the guy all-in. The opponent mucks his hand after flashing 2 jacks! This is where the tournament gets fun for the bigger stacked players.

We are in the 1,500-3k level with a 400 ante. I'm only able to tell you the facts as I see them. For example, if player all moves all-in and player b calls. B wins the hand. Those are the facts for any given hand. What I can't tell you is what a person is thinking throughout a tournament, unless they come to me and tell me their mindset. With that being said, I walk by a table and see this scene...

And I get to wondering. Does this person want to celebrate a job well done? Does he know he will go down in flames at some point tonight and he's getting prepared? What does a bottle of wine mean to this player and his tournament life. THEN Joe Sebok passes by me and says hello. He takes the vacant seat and begins to chat with the table. I now know he's gonna enjoy a job well done when finally opens this bottle.

The big news from the tournament is the hand between Dutch Boyd and Haralabos Voulgaris. Dutch raised from late position to 6k and Voulgaris flat called to see a flop of K-10-8r. Boyd fired out 9k and Voulgaris popped it up to 40k. Dutch made little time of moving all-in and Voulgaris called showing the set of 10's versus the dominating set of K's for Dutch. The turn was a 5 and the river came a 7. Dutch Boyd is our overwhelming chipleader with over 309k.

Barry Greenstein has been very aggressive...at least the two hands I saw! He was on the BB and moved all-in against his opponent who called him down with A-K versus the A-Q of Barry. The flop was 9-Q-4 which gave the upper hand to Barry. The turn was a 9 and the river was a 10. Barry survived that hand to move all-in on the next hand. He was in the sb and the BB reluctantly folded.

A few hands later, Barry made his move with pocket 3's on a flop of 6-4-3r and got called down by the 6-7 of his opponent. The turn was a K and the river was a 10. Barry Greenstein is moving and shaking with 130k.

Tuan Le - 190k
Steve Sung - 190k
Haralabos Voulgaris - 188k
Thu Nguyen - 180k
Dutch Boyd - 160k
Kenny Tran - 160k
Peter Neff - 150k
Robert Cheung - 147k
Raymond Davis - 145k

It's been a bit delayed, but I've tried to find out how Doyle Brunson got knocked out. I'm sort of restricted from certain aspects of the coverage and nobody actually got the hand that knocked him out, but he's been busted.

Other than that, we are down to 99 players and 3 more levels to go. The money is drawing closer and closer!

Monday, 27th of August 2007 05:25 PM

The players are on a short break and will return to 800-1,600 blinds with a 200 ante. you would be surprised what you'd hear in a bathroom during a break. Hans Lund was standing next to me at the sinks and I asked him how he was doing. He simply replied, "Well...they got me." To bad for the tuna. I also overheard two guys who were sitting at the same table with Tuan Le that he's been on a sick run of luck and he's over 220k after taking out a player who had 90k.

Monday, 27th of August 2007 05:17 PM

David Chiu lead out with 3,500 preflop and his opponent in seat seven makes the call. The flop came out 7-6-4 and seat seven fired out 10,000. Chiu rolled out an extra 36k and his opponent had to sit on it for a minute. HSeat 7 folded and Chiu took down the pot. Chiu is just over 100k.

Evelyn Ng was taken out of the match and has vacated the premises. I guess George Yutuc wasn't too happy about her departure.

Evelyn and George

Joe Sebok has been on the rollercoaster with his chips. He is down 30k to 84k.

Dutch Boyd has piled up a nice stack. He has improved to 102k.

I'm cruising the tournament floor for the little bit of time that I get, and I see Pamela Brunson smiling at me. Just to do a little rewind on her story, she came in and won the Ladies Night at The Bike tournament and will be the "wildcard" player at the Ladies Night Out tournament. I was fortunate enough to escort her to her car that night and we chatted the whole way. I must say, she is the nicest and most down to earth person you'll ever encounter. She is just like her father at the poker tables, but when you get her away from the felt. she can talk your ear off. And she always has something interesting to talk about. She is an absolute pleasure! She currently has 63k.

Speaking of the Brunson family, I wanted to get a shot of Tom Schneider and realized that he's at the table with Doyle. I managed to get this great shot of the two of them. Upon further inspection, I noticed that Pamela is sitting behind her father. I don;t know about any of you, but I think it is a good shot. Doyle has 36k, Tom has 104k.

Tom, Doyle, and Pamela

Mike Matusow is still in good spirits today. He is the table leader (of talk, that is). He has 56k.

you can't see his face, but you must know the trademark Green Sox hat. Dan is sitting on 118k and is one of our top chipleader's.

Preflop in middle position, Scotty Nguyen was facing a raise and made his move all-in. He ended up getting called by two players and the cards were exposed. The two other players were holding A-K and Scotty had pocket Q's. The flop was a disaster when one of the few K's came out and the rest of the board did nothing to help Scotty. The Prince of Poker is now heading back home!

UTG, David Singer made his raise tp 2,400 and got reraised to 4k by his opponent. David only had 15k so he made his move with his pocket K's and got called down by his opponent who held A-9. The flop was A-J-J. The turn and river were bricks and David is an early casualty of day 2.

Several players have made the lonely walk towards the door. I'll try and get some names for you all.
