Phil Hellmuth getting his 11th bracelet from Johnny Chan and Doyle Brunson
Monday, 11th of June 2007 09:17 PM
(Jennifer Newell reporting)

Moments after Phil's momentous win, it was announced that there would be a bracelet ceremony open to the public in the ESPN television production set area. Spectators filed into the seats and stood where possible; even Phil's friend Mike Matusow came to take a seat near the stage.

Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan were asked to present Phil with his record-breaking bracelet, and since both were in games at the Rio, they gladly and immediately obliged. In fact, Doyle was playing in the $5000 Limit Hold'em event across the room, and the tournament director decided to stop the clock for Doyle, along with everyone else in the tournament, to attend the ceremony. When Doyle and Johnny walked to the front of the stage, the audience gave up a big round of applause.

Finally, Nolan Dolla took the stage to introduce everyone. "Tonight," he said, "history was made!"

And upon his introduction, Phil entered the room to a rousing ovation. Though Doyle was prepared to speak first, Phil took the microphone to relay a quick story. Evidently, Doyle had placed a total of $400,000 in bets that Phil would win his 11th bracelet this year. No wonder Doyle was all smiles!

"You've gotta give Phil credit for winning eleven bracelets, all in hold'em," Doyle said. "I think Phil is the best tournament hold'em player in the world."

Johnny added, "Phil, good job. I guess now Doyle and I gotta catch up!"

Phil then said, "And by the way, I'm rooting for them. Of course, I didn't mind being the first one [to get the 11th bracelet], but I'm rooting for both of them."

And Phil added, "It feels amazing!" He also mentioned that he had hoped to buy champagne for everyone, but his lawyers advised him against the idea for fear of lawsuits if anyone gets drunk and gets in trouble. But he insisted that he will be buying Dom for his close friends in the poker world and celebrating in a big way tonight. In addition, he noted that he has given away nine of his WSOP bracelets to family members, and one he has worn throughout this series thus far. The one he won today was going to his sister, since her birthday is 11/11/1971, and this is the 11th bracelet on June 11.

He deserves it. Phil made poker history tonight. Congratulations.

Andy Philachack - 2nd - $394,594

(Justin West reporting)

It's over! Phil Hellmuth has done it!

Ladies and gentlmen, the self-professed greatest no-limit hold'em player of all time may have just proven to the world that that statement is just a little more than boasting. Phil Hellmuth has just made history, and has taken home a record 11th World Series of Poker bracelet. WIth this win he has added $637,254 to his total World Series of Poker earnings, which already amounted to more than $5 Million.

Incredible!

Phil Hellmuth, 42, has broken a three-way tie between Doyle Brunson, himself, and Johnny Chan, now leading the pack with 11 bracelets!

Congratulations, Phil.

Here's how it played out.

On the button, Andy Philachack went all-in for 500k, holding A 10. Phil Hellmuth, who had him severely outstacked, made the call with A-3 offsuit.

And wouldn't you know it, the stars aligned for Phil Hellmuth when the flop brought out: 3 4 9.

Phil had a pair of threes, to Andy's ace-high. The turn and river showed us: Q J, and it's all over.

Phil Hellmuth finishes in first place for his 11th WSOP bracelet, and $637, 254.

Andy Philachack ends up in second place, earning $394,594.

(Justin West reporting)

Phil Hellmuth and Andy Philachack, who are now going heads-up for the bracelet and $637,254 first place prize, have just returned from a short break. The cash and bracelet are both on the table.

Excitement is in the air. Phil has a huge chip lead. Andy certainly has his work cut out for him.

What's more... Phil is close to making history. As you're probably well aware, Phil Hellmuth, Doyle Brunson, and Johnny Chan are currently tied for the record of most all-time World Series of Poker bracelets, with ten a piece. If Phil continues along the path that he's on, he's going to take down his 11th, and will officially be the all-time record bracelet holder.

If Phil takes it down there's going to be a presentation nearby at the bracelet display. Expect full coverage if/when Phil wins.

Wow. This is exciting!

Rick Fuller - 3rd place - $247,518

(Justin West reporting)

And then there were two.

Hellmuth picked up K 10, just limping from the small blind.

Holding 8 7 in the big blind, Fuller just checked to see a free flop.

Flop: 9 K 7.

Phil thought for a few moments before putting in a 250,000 bet on his pair of Kings

Fuller evidently felt this was his spot, and he came right over the top and went all-in. Phil gave him the patented insta-call, but it was certainly in his favor to do so. The board did not improve for Fuller, and Phil takes down the pot.

Rick Fuller finished in 3rd place, good for $247,518.

"Hellmuth was playing great," said Fuller. "I think there's no way Phil Hellmuth isn't going to win his 11th bracelet."

We're heads-up now. Andy Philachack certainly has his work cut out for him.

Morgan Machina - 4th place - $161,425
Monday, 11th of June 2007 08:00 PM
(Justin West reporting)

We're back from dinner break, and right after we returned a huge hand developed that left us with three players.

Four-handed, the hole cards were:

Machina: Q 6
Hellmuth: 2 2
Philachack: A 7
Fuller: A 6

After Machina moved all in, getting called in all three spots, the four-way flop was: 3 8 A

Free turn: J

Machina picked up the flush draw, Philachack putting out a sizeable bet. Fuller and Hellmuth both folded, leaving just two players. We saw the river: 2. Machina's hand fizzled, and Philachack picks up the pot with a pair of aces.

Machina finishes in fourth place, earning $161,425

Okay, the players are on a 45-minute break. I'm guessing this will serve as a dinner break. Check back in 15 minutes, though, as there was a bit of confusion and the wires may have been crossed. Could be a 15 minute break. If you don't see any updates in about 30 minutes, check back in 45.

Scott Clements
Monday, 11th of June 2007 06:52 PM
Scott Clements pushed in for his entire stack of 740,000. Phil Hellmuth made the call holding A-10, and we were off to the races.

The flop of Q-10-9 gave Phil Hellmuth the pair of tens, and Scott would get no help on the turn or river.

Just like that Phil Hellmuth's stack soars, sending him well on his way to a record-breaking 11th bracelet. Phil is running incredibly well right now and that, coupled with his undoubtable talent, may spell demise for the other three remaining players.

Scott Clements finished in 5th place, earning $112,997.

(Justin West reporting)

David Simon decided to take a stand, by far the short stack at the time.

David held pocket 10s, and Rick Fuller pushed all in with A Q . David was put to the test here, and finally decided to put all his chips in on the coin flip.

The flop brought: J K A, giving Rick a pair of Aces. The board did not improve from there, and David finishes in 6th place, earning $82,506.

Fabrice Soulier - 7th place - $64,570
Monday, 11th of June 2007 05:48 PM
(Justin West reporting)

Phil Hellmuth is on a rush. An absolute rush.

Soulier just went all-in with Q 3, shoving all of his 155k into the pot. Phil Hellmuth called him down from the small blind with 7 5 , and Rick Fuller called as well with pocket 6's.

The flop brought the: 9 8 Q, and things were looking good for Soulier to double-up.

The turn: J. Phil Hellmuth needed one of the last two remaining 6's in the deck to hit a gutshot, and take Soulier out of competition.

The river: 6!

Phil Hellmuth made his nine-high straight, his stack grows even larger, and Fabrice Soulier finishes in 7th place, earning $64, 570.

Here are the remaining chip counts:

Phil Hellmuth
Monday, 11th of June 2007 05:19 PM
(Justin West reporting)

Player are just now returning from break.

Just before the break, Phil Hellmuth picked up a very nice pot in a heads-up match with Rick Fuller.

Fuller held the K J, holding a sizeable advantage against Phil's 9 10, even on a flop showing: 9 K A.

Phil more than caught up on the turn, though, when the 10 hit the board. Phil now had two-pair, to Fuller's mere pair of Kings.

Phil bet 100k on his two pair, Fuller just calling.

Hellmuth must have tipped his driver well on the way to the Rio today, as the Poker Gods seem to be smiling on him right now. I say that only because the river showed us the 9, giving Phil a monster full house.

Here's where Phil had to pick his decision carefully. The only way he would lose the hand would be to fold, and that didn't seem likely. How much to place in the pot?

Phil put a bet of 150,000 into the center of the pot, Fuller called only to muck his hand, and Phil picks up a nice pot. Phil will come back from the break with the chip lead, 2.6 Million in chips, and more than a 400,000 advantage over the current 2nd place leader, Rick Fuller.

Ut Nguyen - 8th place - $48,427
Monday, 11th of June 2007 05:06 PM
(Justin West reporting)

We have our second huge hand of the evening, as Scott Clements raised pre-flop. Ut Nguyen, holding K Q, decided it was time to make a stand, being relatively short-stacked to the rest of the table.

The action folded around to Scott, and it was up to him to make the call. After minutes of consideration, Scott Clements finally pulled off the 325,000, taking his chances to take out Ut Nguyen.

Much to the surprise of the table Scott flipped over the Q 10.

Bother players flipped their hands and we saw a flop: 2 2 2. Not what Scott was hoping to see, and not giving him any outs.

The turn: 8.

Things were looking good for Nguyen, who had but to dodge a 10 to double up.

The river: 10

Just like that, with the 10 spiked on the river, Scott Clements came from behind to knock out Ut Nguyen. Nguyen finishes in 8th place, earning $48,427.

Taylor Dougls - 9th Place - $38,025
Monday, 11th of June 2007 04:06 PM
(Justin West reporting)

Taylor Douglas just pushed his remaining $230,000 into the pot with 10 J, early in position but eager to double up.

Scott Clements was the only to call, with K Q, and had Taylor more than covered.

The two flipped up there cards, and out came the flop: 4 5 6.

The turn: A.

Neither player held a club, so no chances for a flush were present. Taylor would need a 10 and only a 10 to stay alive.

The river brought the 6, no help to either player and Scott's no-pair held up. Taylor Douglas finishes in 9th place, earning $38,025.

"I was surprised he lasted that long," Phil remarked.

"You never give anyone any credit!" said Scott Clements. "You come in here, you do this so you get the press, but if they beat you, you never give anyone credit."

Phil Hellmuth - seeking 11th bracelet
If you've been around the poker world at all, it won't be difficult to figure out what the biggest story is with this final table. Phil, Phil, Phil. In his well-publicized quest for a record-breaking 11th WSOP bracelet, Phil Hellmuth, Jr. will be the center of attention. Second in chips, he has an outstanding chance to accomplish that feat today.

The chip leader is Rick Fuller, who will be seeking his first major win. In third place is Scott Clements, a tough young tournament specialist who won a WSOP bracelet in Omaha hi/lo and a preliminary WPT event, both in 2006.

Another familiar face is Fabrice Soulier, a French tournament player who made final tables in both WSOP and WPT events, but is yet to take down a major title.

Unfortunately for TV viewers, though, the final table is not scheduled to be recorded for ESPN. Rather, it will be broadcast over the web with a one-hour delay to subscribers. So if you aren't able to catch the webcast, be sure to get your updates right here at PokerPages! The broadcast is scheduled to begin at 3:00pm!
