Darrell Dicken - Chip Leader
Monday, 21st of May 2007 04:22 PM

The tournament clock is stopped with 68 minutes remaining in level 13, which we will resume tomorrow at noon.  In a moment, I will post the chip counts of the final 18 players.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 04:20 PM

And just like that, we are done for the day!  Richard Kirsch just knocked out Mark Ketteringham in 19th place, good for $17,292.

Alarie Gabriel - 19th Place
Monday, 21st of May 2007 04:18 PM

Darrell Dicken just terminated another opponent.  Alarie Gabriel finishes in 20th place and earns $17,292.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 04:17 PM

David Pham pushed all-in but got no takers.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 04:15 PM

Cory Carroll raised to 24K and then Jonathan Little upped it to 60K from the button.  Carroll called.  The flop came 7 9 2 .  Carroll checked, Little bet 100K, and Carroll check-raised to 200K.  Little folded and started counting what's left of his chips.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 04:08 PM

The Dragon refuses to be slain.  David Pham, on the severe short stack, just managed to double up through David Peat.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 04:06 PM

Jon Friedberg doubled through Mark Ketteringham when his T T outran Mark's A 7, as the board came K 2 J 3 7 .

Solomon Niyazov - 21st Place
Monday, 21st of May 2007 04:00 PM

Jonathan Little raised to 22K and Solomon Niyazov moved in for 50K total.  It folded around and Little made the call, turning over K T .  Niyazov showed A 8 .  The board dropped Q 2 Q 6 T .  Jonathan spiked his ten on the river.  Solomon Niyazov finishes in 21st position, earning $17,292.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 03:55 PM

As soon as we are done racing off the purple 500 chips, we will be playing with 4K/8K blinds and a 1K ante.  Once three more players are eliminated, we will have our final two tables and be done for the day.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 03:41 PM

We are now on break.  21 players remain.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 03:40 PM

Richard Kirsch raised to 18K and Mark Ketteringham (button) and Davidson Matthew (bib blind) called.  Flop came 5 2 J .  Matthew checked, Kirsch announced a bet of 30K, and Ketteringham bumped it to 70K.  As soon as Matthew folded, Kirsch announced "All-in!" and leaned in to the table and stared at his opponent.  Ketteringham folded and Kirsch proudly flipped over 2 2 for the set of deuces.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 03:27 PM

Randy Holland has just knocked out John Esposito, who finishes in 22nd place for $17,292.

Laith Salem - 23rd Place
Monday, 21st of May 2007 03:26 PM

Alan Goehring eliminated Laith Salem when his pocket queens held up against Salem's K-T.  Laith Salem finishes in 23rd place and takes home $17,292.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 03:21 PM

David Pham just doubled up through Nam Le.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 03:19 PM

Randy Holland raised to 17K and both Tom Pniak (small blind) and Jon Friedberg (big blind) came along.  All three checked the T A T flop.  On the 5 turn, Pniak checked, Friedberg bet 30K, Holland folded, and then Pniak min-raised to 60K.  Friedberg took little time folding to that ominous play.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 03:07 PM

David "The Dragon" Pham has uncharacteristically let himself get down to a tiny stack.  He is under 40K and looking for a chance to move in.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 03:06 PM

John Esposito moved all-in preflop for 42.5K and got called by Randy Holland in the big blind.  Esposito had A Q and Holland had T T .  The board came Q 8 5 9 9 and Esposito doubles through.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 03:00 PM

Chul Kim and his short stack finally succumbed to the monster stacks at his table.  Chul Kim is out in 24th place, earning $17,292.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 02:49 PM

Alarie Gabriel doubled through Chul Kim when his A-Q beat out A-J.  After they counted down and moved the chips over, Gabriel had about 160K and Kim was left with a silly 8K.  On the following hand, Kim moved all-in with pocket fives, got called by John D'Agostino with K-Q, and won the race to more than triple up.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 02:41 PM

Haralabos Voulgaris got all-in preflop with Amnon Filippi.  Voulgaris had A-K but Filippi had K-K.  No ace appeared on the board, so Haralabos Voulgaris finishes in 25th place, good for $17,292.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 02:38 PM

Both Phil Ivey and Alarie Gabriel checked the 3 7 9 flop.  On the 8 turn, Ivey bet 30K and Gabriel called.  On the 7 river, Ivey checked, Gabriel bet 50K, and Ivey, after studying his opponent with those laser eyes, made the call.  "King high," declared Gabriel.  Ivey turned over A 8 for a pair of eight and dragged the pot.

Jared Hamby - 26th place
Monday, 21st of May 2007 02:23 PM

Jared "TheWacoKidd" Hamby - out in 26th place for $17,292.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 02:18 PM

And then there were 26.  Davidson Matthew just busted Rene Angelil, who will receive $17,292.  Like he needs it.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 02:07 PM

We have completed a redraw for the final three tables and are about to get started again.

Tommy Garza - Bubble Boy
Monday, 21st of May 2007 02:03 PM

On the very first hand, John D'Agostino moved all-in and Tommy Garza called.  Garza showed A J and Dags had T T .  The board came 7 4 3 7 9Tommy Garza finishes on the bubble in 28th place.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 01:59 PM

We are now playing in hand-for-hand mode at level 12: 3K/6K blinds with a 500 ante.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 01:46 PM

Cory Carroll looks to be the overall chip leader now, with over 600K.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 01:45 PM

To give you an idea as to which players are hanging on, here are those with chip stacks lower than 100K:

Laith Salem  35K
Jared Hamby   45K
Tommy Garza   60K
Rene Angelil   80K
David Pham   90K

Monday, 21st of May 2007 01:43 PM

We have also just reached our first 15-minute break of the session.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 01:42 PM

Owen Crowe just busted out in 29th place, so we are in hand-for-hand mode.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 01:41 PM

Shannon Shorr just doubled through Mikko Pispala.  Shannon had bet 25K on a 6 7 7 flop, Mikko moved all-in, and Shannon called for his last 100K.  Pispala had 8 9 for the open-end straight and Shorr had T T for the overpair.  The 7 turn filled Shorr up, taking a huge bite out of Pispala's stack.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 01:34 PM

Alan Goehring raised from the button and Owen Crowe re-raised for another 27K, which Goehring called.  The flop came 5 3 A  and Crowe bet 40K.  Goehring immediately raised to 80K, and just as quickly, Crowe folded, shaking his head.  Owen is now on a perilously short stack.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 01:32 PM

On a board of 4 A 6 7 , Jon Friedberg checked, Darrell Dicken bet 15K, and Friedberg check-raised to 45K, which Dicken called.  When the 9 river came, Friedberg checked and Dicken announced that he was all-in.  Friedberg sat quietly for several minutes before folding, leaving himself with just 125K behind.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 01:23 PM

The tournament director just announced that we will play down to 18 today.  As we are at 29 players right now, we will go into hand-for-hand mode once another player is eliminated.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 01:22 PM

And now, David Peat just busted the short-stacked Jonathan Depa in 30th place.  Depa, who plays online as "HoosierAlum", told me before action started today that he was playing to win the tournament, not just to cash.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 01:18 PM

Chad Layne finished in 32nd place, and Chip Reese got dumped in 31st place, when he ran his pocket threes into Amnon Filippi's pocket tens.

Paul Wang - busted
Monday, 21st of May 2007 01:11 PM

On the flop of T 7 3 , Paul Wang moved in and Cory Carroll called so fast I think he scared himself.  Wang showed K J for the flush draw and Carroll had 3 3 for the set.  When the 7 turn paired the board, giving Carroll a full house, Wang was drawing dead.  Paul Wang is out in 33rd place.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 01:05 PM

Normally, it is a good thing to look down and see K K .  Except when your opponent peeks down at A A .  That's what happened to John D'Agostino just now against David Peat.  After paying off Peat to the tune of 125K, J-Dags was left with just 100K.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 12:58 PM

Folded to him in the small blind, Tom Pniak raised to 15K, but Cuong Nguyen moved all-in for 78K total.  Pniak rechecked his cards and, upon further circumspection, decided they weren't that great after all.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 12:57 PM

On a board of A 7 4 6 , Owen Crowe bet 60K into the 70K pot and Cory Carroll moved all-in.  Crowe folded in frustration, leaving himself with about 100K.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 12:49 PM

And now Yoon Kim is out in 34th place.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 12:46 PM

Eric Froehlich, who came in today with a healthy 166K in chips, is out in 35th spot.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 12:43 PM

The tournament director announced that we may play down to 18 players today, instead of 27, depending on how quickly we reach the 27 mark.  He did not say whether that would be determined by a staff decision or a vote by the players.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 12:41 PM

Dallas Wottlin was knocked out with pocket nines by Cory Carroll with pocket kings.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 12:39 PM

Phil Ivey busted Burt Boutin.  And Ardavan Yazdi was eliminated in 37th place.  So we have just consolidated to four nine-handed tables.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 12:34 PM

Daniel Alaei was eliminated by Paul Wang when his A-6 ran up against A-Q on an ace-high flop.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 12:21 PM

Anh Van Nguyen, who started out the day as the shortest stack, was eliminated when his A-7 did not improve against Alan Goehrings T-T.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 12:16 PM

Mikko Pispala, the third overall chip leader, is a no-show so far.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 12:13 PM

Shuffle up and deal!

Monday, 21st of May 2007 12:11 PM

We are still messing around with the color-up.  I think we'll be started within a couple minutes now.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 12:00 PM

We will be starting at level 11: 2K/4K blinds with a 500 ante.  They will be removing the black 100 chips before starting play today.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 11:57 AM

Five minutes away.  With 40 players remaining, the average chip stack is 154.5K.  The next 13 players eliminated receive nothing, whereas the final 27 will be in the money:

PlacePayout
1$1,066,295
2$561,966
3$259,369
4$172,912

16-18$23,056
19-27$17,292

Monday, 21st of May 2007 11:40 AM

The discrepancy was for John Esposito's chip count.  Last night, it was reported at 145,600.  But this morning's count of 108,000 is correct.  So the tables below are accurate.

Monday, 21st of May 2007 11:34 AM

We are shceduled to start in thirty minutes.  If we are indeed playing down to 27 today, as the tournament staff assures me, this has the potential to be a short day.
