| Tom Pniak | |
Sunday, 20th of May 2007 08:40 PM With the board of J J 8 6 , Tom Pniak moved all-in for 68K and John D'Agostino went into the tank. Finally, he folded. Pniak flipped over 5 5 . D'Agostino was visibly annoyed.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 08:24 PM With the board reading A 9 J 5 , Paul Wang checked and Jared Hamby bet 15K and got called. With the 8 river, Wang 9 bet 20.2K and Hamby immediately says "call" and turns over T 7 for the straight. But Wang had Q T for the nut straight. Hamby - in a fit of tiltiness - flicked the 20.2K of chips right into the middle of the pot. The dealer had to call the floor and, based on several players testifying that the amount was right, agreed to accept that and had the dealer push the pot to Wang 9. Jared Hamby is down to about 90K and is now walking around the tournament area talking to himself.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 08:01 PM Both Davidson Matthew and Burt Boutin checked the A 3 Q flop. On the J turn, Matthew bet 20K, Boutin raised to 40K, and Matthew called. On the T river, Matthew immediately announced all-in and proceeded to shove his remaining 92K across the betting line. Boutin looked exasperated, as Chip Reese, sitting to his left, chuckled in commiseration. Finally, Boutin folded in disgust. Matthew, with a big grin on his face, turned to David Pham, sitting to his right, and said, "I know you would have called me!". Pham nodded in agreement. Still laughing, Matthew asked Boutin, "Why didn't you call me?" Boutin looked at him and said, "Just be a gracious winner." Boutin is down to 70K.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 07:52 PM An early position raiser made it 10K, Solomon Niyazov raised all-in for 73K, and Jared Hamby moved all-in over the top. The initial raiser cleared out. Niyazov showed K-K and Hamby showed Q-Q. The flop came a door-slamming K-K-2. Hamby, realizing he had no chance to win, flicked his queens to the dealer before the turn even came out.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 07:48 PM Toto Leonidas ran his pocket queens into pocket aces and is now gone.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 07:42 PM Cory Carroll just took a monster pot from Toto Leonidas. With the board reading 4 8 5 T , Cory checked, Toto bet 15K, and Cory raised to 52K, which Toto called. When the T river came, Cory checked, Toto bet 35K, and Cory called. Toto showed A 6 for the busted flush draw. Cory showed A 4 , having paired his four. Wow.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 07:34 PM Just a reminder, only the final 27 players will get paid, so we are still a bit away from the money bubble.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 07:33 PM We just lost several players in rapid fire succession. They are breaking a table and condensing down to the final five tables, meaning that we have 45 players remaining.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 07:32 PM Al Stonum busted Steve Sung.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 07:21 PM Kristy Gazes re-raised all-in preflop and Jared Hamby said that he "had to call". Gazes had K K against Hamby's T T . The 3 T 7 flop gave Hamby a set and Gazes starting gathering her things. The 8 turn and 5 river meant that Kristy Gazes, the last woman in this tournament, has been eliminated.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 07:11 PM We are commencing level 10, our final level of the day. Blinds are 1.5K/3K with a 400 ante.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 06:59 PM On the final hand before the break, Jon Friedberg doubled up again with A-K (hitting a king), this time against Thor Hansen. After losing that 52K, Hansen was left with just 20K.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 06:55 PM We are on our final 15-minute break of the day.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 06:54 PM We have consolidated down to the final six nine-handed tables.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 06:53 PM Jon Friedberg pushed all-in for his last 28K and Alan Goehring called. Goehring has 8 8 and Friedberg had A K . The board dropped A Q J T 6 and Friedberg doubled up.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 06:38 PM Cory Carroll just knocked out a player when his 7-7 flopped top set on a 5-7-6 board. His opponent had J-J. The 3-6 turn river didn't change anything. We have approximately 56 players left.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 06:28 PM David Pham just took a 60K+ hit when his A-K ran into A-A. He is back down around 115K.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 06:19 PM Jared Hamby must have gifted his chips to other members of his table, because the last time I walked by, his chip stack had taken a major hit.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 06:18 PM Phil Ivey won a nice pot when he re-raised all-in against Lex Veldhuis on a 9-2-3-5 board. A little later, Ivey and Steve Sung got all-in on a T 3 3 flop. Ivey had Q T and Sung had A K . The Q turn gave Ivey a higher two pair than he had, but didn't really help him that much. Sung still had six outs and spiked one of them with the K river. His two pair, kings and threes, were better than Ivey's queens and tens.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 06:05 PM Jared Hamby, the second chip leader, just got moved to the right of Darrell Dicken, the overall chip leader.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 06:04 PM John Esposito raised to 7K and then Kristy Gazes moved all-in for her last 44K. Esposito folded.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 05:52 PM Ardavan Yazdi busted Johnny Chan. While Chan was ahead on the flop when all the chips went in, he had to fade a club on the turn and river. When a club came on the turn, meaning that he was drawing dead, Chan crumpled his two cards and left the table. The dealer had to call the floor to get replacement cards.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 05:46 PM Seat 1 raised to 6.5K and Jared "TheWacoKidd" Hamby re-raised to 15K and got called. On the T-6-5 flop, Seat 1 moved in for about 70K and Hamby immediately called. Seat 1 had J-J and Hamby had K-K. The turn and river were undercards. Hamby assimilates another player's chip stack, sending his own over the 300K mark.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 05:36 PM Jared Hamby just knocked out Hoyt Corkins.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 05:24 PM Here we go at level 9: 1K/2K blinds with a 300 ante. 68 players remain, with an average chip stack of 90K.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 05:11 PM Players are on a 15-minute break.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 05:10 PM On a completed board of A-3-4-J-2, Davidson Matthew bet 26K and David Pham, after studying his opponent for a couple moments, rechecked his cards, pushed out the 26K, and turned over A-Q. Matthew mucked his hand.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 05:04 PM Owen Crowe had slipped entirely beneath my radar until I just noticed that he has over 225K in chips, placing him among the top two or three.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 05:03 PM Cory Carroll - the winner of the WSOP Circuit Event at Caesar's a few weeks ago - doubled up when his A 7 beat out A K when the board came 7 J 6 T 4 . About ten minutes later, he pushed in from the button for 53K and got an early-position raiser to fold.

| J.C. Alvarado - busted | |
Sunday, 20th of May 2007 04:50 PM Darrell Dicken's chip stack is in danger of collapsing into itself and forming a black hole. My best estimate is that he has over 350K and is the runaway chip leader right now.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 04:49 PM J.C. Alvarado has busted.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 04:36 PM On a flop of 5 8 4 , J.C. Alvarado bet 20K and Amnon Filippi, in position, raised to 60K. Alvarado folded in disgust.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 04:34 PM Every time I walk by table 39, Darrell Dicken is involved in a pot with someone. Usually, he is betting heavily and generally taking it down. He has a fearsome stack of chips now and players from other tables are looking over and whispering to each other with chip envy.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 04:17 PM Flaminio Malaguti, Jonathan Depa, and Eric Froehlich got into a 3-way all-in preflop. Malaguit had Q Q , Froehlich had A Q , and Depa had A K . The board came K 2 6 J 9 . Depa, with his pair of kings, more than doubles up, Froehlich takes a hit, and Flaminio Malaguti is eliminated.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 04:01 PM Kathy Liebert has been expelled from the tournament.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 04:00 PM Michael Binger busted when his pocket kings ran into Lex Veldhuis' flopped set of sevens.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 03:57 PM Jonathan Little pushed all-in preflop and got no callers.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 03:56 PM Chip Reese raised, the small blind called, and John D'Agostino, in the big blind, pushed in with his final 23K. Reese folded and the small blind called, though J-Dags had him covered slightly. Small blind had A-K and Dags had Q-Q. The board came 5-T-8-4-J and John D'Agostino drags the pot, eliminating a player, and comments: "Whew! I saw paint on that last card and I did not like that one bit!"Sunday, 20th of May 2007 03:39 PM We are under way again. An actual head count shows that just 85 players are left.

Sunday, 20th of May 2007 03:22 PM On a flop of 8 2 Q , Raymond Davis checked, Eric Froehlich bet 5.7K, and Davis check-raised massively all-in for another 77K. Froehlich, who had Davis covered, looked pained but made the call. Davis had K K for the overpair and Froehlich has 9 8 for a pair and the flush draw. The A turn made the flush and Davis was drawing dead. Raymond Davis has been eliminated.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 03:19 PM Alex Jacob is out.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 03:11 PM Darrell Dicken is continuing his rampage. He raised to 4K and the button pushed in for 17K total, which Dicken called, showing K 9 . The button had A Q . But the board came T K 6 K 8 , giving Dicken trip kings and the pot. Darrell Dicken raised to 45K and John Esposito folded. Gazes moved the rest of her chips in and Dicken called. Gazes showed Q J for top pair and the flush draw. Dicken had A J for top pair top kicker. The turn-river came J 2 , giving them both full houses. Gazes seemed more than happy to chop the pot. Dicken, since he is an android, showed no emotion.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 03:00 PM On a board of A A 6 Q , Phil Ivey bet 15K and Todd Rebello called. On the 4 river, Ivey bet 25K and Rebello went into the tank. Eventually, he called and showed J J . Ivey turned over A 9 for trip aces and dragged the 100K pot. Sunday, 20th of May 2007 02:43 PM Lee Sonn and Darrell Dicken tangled again. All-in preflop, Dicken had A A and Sonn had K K . Sonn clenched his fist and said "Yes!" when he saw the K 3 2 flop. Dicken watched silently. The 9 turn changed nothing. Oh, but that A on the river was a cruel twist of fate. Lee Sonn busted and Darrell Dicken built his stack even more.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 02:21 PM This is why we are all indoors on this Sunday afternoon with clear blue skies:

But the K river kept Smurfit's jacks ahead, giving him the huge pot.Sunday, 20th of May 2007 01:15 PM Jonathan Depa just lost 80% of his chips when his K K ran into Toto Leonidas' A A .Sunday, 20th of May 2007 01:03 PM Raymond Davis in the small blind got all-in with the big blind. After successful careers in the financial and high-tech industries, Michael Cheser became fascinated with poker in early 2006. Defying all probabilities, he managed to cash in the 2006 WSOP Main Event. When not tournament reporting for PokerPages, he can be seen at no-limit tables in Las Vegas, cheerfully calling large river bets with second-best hands. Contact Michael. |
