As destiny dictated, on the final hand of the night, Raymond Davis and Layne Flack finally got all their chips in. Steve Wong had raised to 3500, Davis called, and then Flack popped it for another 10K, which Davis called. As soon as the 9-8-6 flop hit the felt, Flack put a big stack of chips out and Davis called right away. Flack tabled Q Q and Davis turned over T T . The A K turn-river settled the matter. Miami John Cernuto just lost more than half his chips in a race situation, but there was river cruelty involved. He called an all-in player who had Q-Q with his A-K. Ferguson had Q 9 for middle pair and the flush draw. The big blind had A K for top pair top kicker. The 4 turn and 2 river were not what Chris wanted to see. Layne Flack and Raymond Davis are doing some serious trash talking with each other. On the hand I just witnessed, a player raised it to 1600, Flack and the button called, and Raymond, claiming not to have looked at his cards yet, pushed 30K or so into the pot and told Layne, "I'm on tilt. One of us has to go." It folded back to Layne (who has a lot of chips, maybe 2/3 that of Davis), who folded and smiled. She just raised to 2200 preflop and the big blind moved all-in for about 8K. Erica called without hesitation and turned over A A . The big blind couldn't believe his eyes, as he turned over K K . It just goes to show you that patience can be rewarded in these tournaments. Shortly after the dinner break, Erica Schoenberg was sitting on a tiny stack, around 3500. It just wasn't Anna Wroblewski's day. Ten minutes ago, she lost half her stack against quad kings. Then, she got all-in on the K-Q-9 flop against Brandon Cantu. Anna had flopped the nuts with J-T. Brandon had 9-9 for the set of nines. And the turn was the case nine, so Anna lost to quads twice in ten minutes. Anna Wroblewski is out.

Here's a bit of a nutty hand for you: Three players got all-in preflop. One was short stacked, one was middle stacked, and one was big stacked (Raymond Davis). They all turned over their cards: Raymond had K T , middle stack had A Q , and shorty had 9 6 . The board came 5 A 2 8 K . Shorty runner-runnered the flush to take the main pot of 17K. Middle stack paired the ace and won the sizeable sidepot. Raymond Davis won nothing, but still has a healthy 40K left behind. After the hand, short stack tried to explain to the table how he figured he had two live cards and it was worth a shot. Layne Flack, sitting at the table, said, "You don't need to explain why you played it. Just stack your chips, man."Monday, 30th of April 2007 07:58 PM

I just spoke with Bryan Devonshire and he told me about the hand that crippled him, just before he busted out. Bryan limped under the gun and Steve Dannenmann raised to 700K, which Bryan called. Both checked the Q-7-6 flop. On the J turn, Bryan checked, Steve bet 700, and Bryan called. On the K river, Bryan bet 2K, Steve raised to 5K, and Bryan moved all-in, which Steve called. Joe Pelton and Jeff Madsen just got into a big scrape. With the flop of 8 8 6 , Pelton bet 2.5K and Madsen called. With the Q on the turn, Joe bet 4K and Madsen called again. According to the structure sheet supplied us, players will have 10K in starting chips, and the first blind level will be 25/50. Levels last 75 minutes, and we will play seven levels today (presumably with a dinner break). We are set for a noon PDT start, which is just a couple hours from now. Last year, this event drew 209 players and finished, as scheduled, in four days. This year, I have a hunch that we will greatly exceed last year's count. The first reason is that most tournaments have been beating their 2006 head counts. The next reason - and this is a big one - is that last year, this was a $10K buy-in tournament, while this year, it is a $5K buy-in. And if you look at the schedule, they have compressed the tournament this year down to three days. So if we are going to be down to a final table by tomorrow night, I shudder to think about how long these next two days might be.
