Monday, 23rd of April 2007 08:49 PM And that does it! When I have final chip counts and tomorrow's seating assigment, I will get them posted right here. Be sure to check back tomorrow at noon PDT for the next installment!Monday, 23rd of April 2007 08:47 PM I think Scott Fischman is on tilt. The Bellagio staff is making announcements over the PA about chip bagging procedure, tomorrow's schedule, etc., and Scott Fischman has yelled out, "SHUT UP!", several times.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 08:44 PM Final wind-down now. Some tables have already completed their hands and the players are filling their chip bags. Guess they wanted to be the first to the complimentary dinner buffet!Monday, 23rd of April 2007 08:39 PM We just drew to see how many hands are left for the night, and for the third night in a row, we will be playing the minimum three hands.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 08:38 PM A couple of changes of fortune. David Singer, who was among the chip leaders earlier with well over 200K, is now sitting around 75K. Meanwhile, Bryan Devonshire, our PokerPages brother, has shot up to the 200K range.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 08:29 PM With just 22 minutes left on the clock, play has noticeably slowed down. There are 222 players remaining, making the average stack 143,919.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 08:13 PM On a flop of K Q 7 , Seat 10 checked, Paul Wasicka bet 11K, and Seat 10 raised to 30K, which Wasicka called. With the 9 turn, Seat 10 led out with 30K, which Wasicka again called. On the A river, Seat 10 checked, Wasicka bet 60K, and Seat 10 called, though he didn't look happy about it. Wasicka turned over 9 6 for the flush and his opponent pounded the table and mucked.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 08:05 PM J.C. Alvarado, the runner up at the WPT Reno tournament a few weeks ago, has just busted out.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 08:04 PM With 45 minutes to play today, we have already trimmed the field to 232 players, so everyone remaining is here together in the Fontana Room.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 08:01 PM Scott Fischman has to be getting frustrated now. He just lost another pot, this time to J.C. Tran, sitting to his right. On a flop of A-8-3, J.C. checked, Scott bet 5.5K, and J.C. moved all-in for about 40K. Scott made the call with 8-3, having flopped two pair. Tran had A-Q. When an ace hit on the turn, giving Tran trips, Scott yelled out, "God! J.C.! Every time!", and shipped his chips over. J.C. Tran just seems to get the card he needs every time when his tournament life is on the line. Scott is down below 70K now.

| Phil Hellmuth - Accumulating Chips | |
Monday, 23rd of April 2007 07:57 PM Every time I walk by Phil Hellmuth's table, his chip stack is bigger. He is over 400K now and contending for the overall lead.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 07:55 PM Huck Seed and Kathy Liebert were both seen exiting the tournament area (but not together).Monday, 23rd of April 2007 07:52 PM Anna Wroblewski still has the tallest stack that I've seen, at around 450K.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 07:50 PM With a board of 4 3 T A and about 150K already in the pot, Sorel Mizzi bet 32K and Scott Fischman called. As soon as the J river dropped, Mizzi moved all-in, which would have put Scott Fischman all-in for his last 106K. After an eternity, Fischman folded. Mizzi is well over 360K now.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 07:35 PM Seat 9 raised preflop and Phil Hellmuth reraised to 12K from the button and got called. The flop came 3 4 Q . Seat 9 checked, Phil Hellmuth bet 5K and Seat 9 got the brilliant idea to check-raise to 18K. Hellmuth called and never stopped chewing his dinner. The turn came 8 and Seat 9 led out with 30K. Hellmuth gave him the eye and then mini-raised to 60K, which would have been the rest of his opponent's chips. Seat 9 flashed the Q and folded. Hellmuth turned over Q Q and said, "I'm not kidding around here."Monday, 23rd of April 2007 07:20 PM We are going now. With 252 players remaining, the average stack is 126,785.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 07:13 PM Still seven minutes left in the final break period of the session. When they get back, they will be at level 10: 1000/2000 with a 300 ante.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 07:11 PM With a board of 9 A 6 T and a pot of 50K or so, a player led out for 30K into Phil Hellmuth. Phil deliberated, as if he was considering putting the player all-in (which would have been another 85K), but decided just to call. Both players checked the 3 river and Hellmuth turned over A T for top two pair. "I figured you were drawing dead", he said as he added the pot to his stack. Hellmuth is cruising right now and has at least 300K.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 07:08 PM With about 40K in the pot and a board of 2 6 3 J 5 , Phil Ivey checked, Daniel Alaei checked, and Anna Wroblewski fired off 21K. Ivey looked annoyed as he mucked, but Alaei made the call. Anna rolled over A A and Daniel lowered his head and slid his cards in. Anna must be over 400K now and is likely the overall leader again.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 06:49 PM More roadkill along the poker highway: John Bonetti, John Phan, Dewey Tomko, Chau Giang, and Juha Helppi.

| Lee Markholt - possible chip leader | |
Monday, 23rd of April 2007 06:43 PM Scott Fischman and David Benyamine got it all-in on a board of K A 6 T . Benyamine had A K for top two pair but Fischman had Q J for the nut straight. The 2 river shipped the 230K pot to Fischman. Benyamine has been crippled down to 7K.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 06:37 PM Lee Markholt has around 360K, which places him in the top three for chips. Bryan Devonshire passed the 100K mark and is sitting around 102K. Elia Ahmadian has 222K.

| Doyle Brunson - busted out | |
Monday, 23rd of April 2007 06:21 PM Sadly, I must report that Doyle Brunson was busted by David Singer.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 06:12 PM We are down to 293 players and falling fast. We may just get to 240 or fewer by the end of level 10, which means we could have the entire remaining field here in the Fontana Room before we wrap for the night.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 06:10 PM The bustouts keep coming, faster than I can track them. Here are some of the players that I know have departed: Gus Hansen, Devilfish Ulliott, Young Phan, Mark Newhouse, and David Sklansky.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 06:04 PM Anna Wroblewski just took down a monster pot and knocked out another player. Her pocket queens were best at the end and she is still assimilating the 175K pot into her stack. Meanwhile, Phil Ivey has just been moved from the poker room to be reunited with Anna, his tablemate from Saturday.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 05:53 PM Doyle Brunson just doubled up a shortstacked player when his A-J got run down by A-8. Doyle has about 35K left.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 05:41 PM Erick Lindgren, after losing that pot earlier with Steve Simmons, was just looking for a chance to stick his last 5K into the center. The first hand after the break, he got it. Shannon Shorr raised to 4.5K and Lindgren called with his last 4.3K. Steve Simmons came along in the big blind. The flop was T 7 K and Shorr led out with 6K, causing Simmons to fold. Lindgren showed A 9 but was behind Shorr's 6 6 . But the 8 turn and 5 river couldn't rescue him. Erick Lindgren is out.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 05:24 PM We are on our third break. 317 players remain. When play resumes, we will be at level 9: 800/1600 blinds with a 200 ante.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 05:21 PM With 35K in the pot and a board of 2 7 K 9 4 , Cliff Josephy checked, his opponent bet 12K and Cliff made the call. His opponent flipped over K Q for the flush and Josephy mucked, nursing his remaining 25K in chips.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 05:17 PM Steve Simmons pushed all-in preflop for 20K and got called by Erick Lindgren. Erick turned over Q Q . Simmons announced, "I only looked at one," and turned over A 8 . The flop came A 6 A , sending Simmons well into the lead. The turn and river came 4 K , leaving Lindgren with just 5K. "Back to my comfort zone", he said.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 05:02 PM Young Phan made a mistake in a pot with Devilfish Ulliott and got rewarded by doubling up. Phan admitted to misunderstanding Ulliott's bet amount and unintentionally called a much bigger bet than he wanted to. Then he ended up all-in and caught his card on the river to win the pot. Ulliott was noticeably upset and kept saying, "Nice play. Nice play." Young Phan just said, "Hey! I made a mistake and I admit it. I just got lucky." He has about 80K now.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 04:58 PM On a board of 4 Q 6 A , David Benyamine bet 17.5K into Scott Fischman. Scott, eyeing Lee Markholt's massive chip castle, said, "I wish I were Lee", and folded.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 04:54 PM Dustin Woolf raised from the button and John Bonetti, in the big blind, reraised to 13K. Woolf reraised again to 52K, which Bonetti called. The flop came 8 T 3 and Bonetti moved all-in. Woolf called with the last 30K or so he had. Bonetti announced, "I have six high", and turned over 6 4 for no pair, no draw. Wolff turned over J J . The 6 turn made things a little more interesting, but the Q river awarded the massive pot to Woolf. Bonetti stewed. He must have been sick and tired of having his blind raised and picked the wrong time to make a stand. Roland De Wolfe, sitting between the two, gave me a bug-eyed look, as if to say, "What!!!!????"Monday, 23rd of April 2007 04:37 PM Bryan Devonshire has drifted down to about 54K. Mike Sica, who started the day with 17K has built his way up to 55K.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 04:26 PM Patrik Antonius is up around 225K. I saw two women just outside the Fontana Room and one pointed to Patrik and said, "Look! There's the model!"Monday, 23rd of April 2007 04:23 PM We started the day with 479 players and we currently have 347 left, so the bustout rate has definitely picked up the pace.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 04:20 PM I just witnessed one of the sickest calls I have ever seen. With a massive 110K pot and the final board reading Q 5 9 6 J , Kido Pham bet 80K on the river. Eric Kesselman, who only had 48K left, took a long time and finally made the call. Kido said, "Good call. I have nothing." Kesselman turned over the 8 6 for a pair of sixes. Everyone at the table and anyone watching just stared with astonishment as Kesselman dragged the massive 210K pot in.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 03:50 PM We are back from break already and at level 8: 600/1200 blinds with a 200 ante.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 03:49 PM Other notable bustouts include Todd Brunson, Ted Lawson, John D'Agostino, and Eli Elezra.

| Mike Matusow (r) - busted! | |
Monday, 23rd of April 2007 03:47 PM Players are on break, but I have a big hand to tell you about that happened just before the break started. On a flop of 9 7 7 , Mike Matusow led out with a 12K bet and got raised to 24K by Lee Markholt. Mouth pushed all-in, which came out to be 69K on top. Markholt vacillated and then made the call. Matusow looked uncomfortable and turned over 8 7 for trips. Markholt showed A Q . Matusow asked him, "Why did you call me with that?" "Too much in the pot already, Mike". The turn was the J , completing Lee's flush, so Mike was down to ten outs to make his boat. But the T river was not one of them. Mike just stood there in disbelief as the dealer pushed the monster pot to Markholt, who now has over 340K in chips and is among the overall leaders. Mike Matusow is out.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 03:32 PM Erick Lindgren just doubled up when he got all in with K Q on a A 9 5 board, but was up against A Q . Not exactly what he had planned, Lindgren saw the J T turn and river make him a Broadway straight. He has about 25K now.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 03:27 PM The table folded to Bob Feduniak on the button, who raised it to 3K. Gus Hansen, in the small blind, made the call. The flop came J T 8 . Gus checked, and Bob moved in for his last 15K or so. Gus instantly made the call, tabling Q 9 . He had flopped the nut straight and open ended straight flush draw. Bob showed K Q , for the open ended straight draw. So Bob needed a non-spade nine or ace. The 7 turn didn't help, but the A on the river was just what the doctor ordered. Bob Feduniak doubled up and Gus Hansen shrugged.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 03:09 PM Recent eliminations include Barry Greenstein, Kevin O'Donnell, Gavin Smith, and the defending champion of this tournament, Joe Bartholdi.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 03:05 PM Amnon Filippi and Dewey Tomko got into a preflop raising war, culminating in Filippi pushing all-in for 28K more, which would have been the majority of Tomko's chips. Dewey took a looooooong time before folding.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 03:02 PM On a flop of 8 2 J , a player bet 12K and Kido Pham jacked it up to 52K, which sent his opponent heading for the hills.

Monday, 23rd of April 2007 02:59 PM Lots of action here in the past ten minutes. With half a dozen limpers, Andrew Black moved all-in for a whopping 55K. The whole table folded and he showed A K . "If someone had kings or aces, oh well!", he said.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 02:45 PM Abel Meijberg eliminated Josh Arieh. They got it all-in on the 3 7 J flop. Arieh, with the short stack, had Q J for top pair. Meijberg had A 6 for the nut flush draw and the overcard. The 4 turn settled the matter.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 02:41 PM Berry Johnston knocked out Tom McEvoy.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 02:38 PM Sam Farha, by the way, has well over 300K in front of him, and is likely the overall chip leader. Anna Wroblewski has drifted down and is around 160K right now.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 02:35 PM With a raise and two callers in front of him, Freddy Deeb popped it to 15K from the button and got three callers, including Sam Farha. The flop came K T 3 . All three players checked to Deeb, who moved all-in for 58.8K more. One player folded, Sammy took a long, long while, even counting out the 58.8K and having it ready, but then folded. The final player folded. Freddy flipped up one card: 3 and tossed the other one in the bottom of the muck. "The other one was the ace of spades, of course", he said with a sly smile.

Patton led out with 6K, Aaron Scott moved all-in for 38K and then Devonshire moved all-in for his last 35K. Patton folded. Scott showed A A , but Bryan showed T 9 for trips. The turn and river were bricks. Bryan Devonshire, our PokerPages hero, more than doubles up to 84K.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 12:57 PM With 46K in the pot, and on a flop of 5 4 9 , Robert Slezak moved all-in for his last 24K. John "Tex" Barch, who had Robert well covered, gave long consideration to calling. "You're tens are no good", said Slezak. Barch folded and Slezak scooped the giant pot.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 12:54 PM Gus Hansen is building his stack by what else? Betting, betting, and more betting! This time, his 10.2K turn bet on a board of 4 Q 9 7 was good enough to take down another pot.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 12:52 PM David Singer just added to his stack by knocking out Nestor Ygborn.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 12:40 PM David Levi doubled up when he moved all-in on the turn holding 9 9 on a board of T 2 8 9 and got called by Rich Salomon holding 5 2 . No spade came on the river, so Levi is back up to about 50K.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 12:37 PM Rob Hollink knocked out Roland Gentner when he rivered a flush and got Gentner to call down all his chips.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 12:29 PM Sammy Farha bet 18K on a board of 9 4 7 9 and Freddy Deeb let his hand go.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 12:28 PM Anna Wroblewski continued where she left off. With a board of 5 6 T 8 Q , Quinn Do checked and she bet 6.5K, which Quinn reluctantly called. Anna turned over Q J for top pair and Quinn mucked.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 12:20 PM Shuffle up and deal!Monday, 23rd of April 2007 12:13 PM We are yet to get started. They are still completing the color up procedure. Seat 1 will have the button at all tables.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 11:57 AM The players (at least those present) are cutting open their chip bags. The first order of business is to race off the green 25 chips before getting under way.Monday, 23rd of April 2007 11:36 AM One of the Bellagio dealers walked by the table where Sam Farha's chip bag was laid out. They picked it up, looked at it, put it down, and said to the other dealers within earshot, "Let him get aces the first hand. And let them get cracked." The other dealers nodded in agreement. Evidently old Sammy is not on the dealers' holiday card list. I wonder what he did?Monday, 23rd of April 2007 11:30 AM FYI - We are playing levels 6-10 today, irrespective of how many players remain. After successful careers in the financial and high-tech industries, Michael Cheser became fascinated with poker in early 2006. Defying all probabilities, he managed to cash in the 2006 WSOP Main Event. When not tournament reporting for PokerPages, he can be seen at no-limit tables in Las Vegas, cheerfully calling large river bets with second-best hands. Contact Michael. |
