Chips are being counted and bagged. We believe there are 44 players remaining. Kido Pham is definitely the chip leader with 585,000 chips. Victor Ramdin is second with 504,000. The complete list of remaining players and chip counts, along with table and seat assignments for tomorrow will be posted here when available.

Play will resume Tuesday at noon.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 08:40 PM

With 10 minutes remaining in the level, Johnny Grooms has stopped the clock. Barry Greenstein drew a card -- a 7 -- and that means that all tables will play 7 more hands, then will be finished for the night.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 08:33 PM

Mickey 'Mouse' Mills doubled up when his pocket 4s held up against his opponent's A7 and open-ended straight-draw.

48 players remain.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 08:20 PM

With Phil Hellmuth in the small blind, Hoyt Corkins raised from the cutoff to over 75K. That was close to or more than what Phil had left. Phil decided he had the best of it and moved his chips in, showing pocket 9s. Hoyt held A 6 . Flop was 2 5 3 , giving Hoyt more outs (any Ace, any 4). Turn was the 8 giving Hoyt even more outs. Now any club would also work. River was, of course, the 5 , giving Hoyt the runner-runner flush and the pot. Phil slammed his fist on the table and said "I can't believe how bad you play against me!" and stormed off.

51 players remain.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 08:11 PM

Randy Gil got his last chips in with pocket Tens, only to get called by a player with AQ. An Ace on the flop spelled the end of Randy's tournament.

53 players remain. Average stack is almost 111K.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 07:57 PM

Eskimo Clark raised to 7K from the cutoff and Devilfish Ulliott raised to 25K from the button. The player in seat 2 called, as did Eskimo. Flop was Q 5 J . Checked to Devilfish, who counted out his remaining chips, then moved all in for 29,100. Seat 2 folded and Eskimo went into the tank. Devilfish started talking to him, "Don't double me up, Eskimo" and it seemed that he really wanted the call. Eskimo finally called, saying he put Devilfish on AK. Eskimo held 8 8 and Devilfish rolled over Q Q for top set and the curent nuts. Eskimo would need two runners to win and it looked like the 'fish was headed for a double-up, but alas, running spades (6 9 ) put four spades on the board and gave Eskimo a flush with his 8 . David 'Devilfish' Ulliott was given the boot.

54 players remain.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 07:47 PM

56 players remain. Average stack is 105K.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 07:37 PM

On a Queen-high flop with two hearts, Chau Giang got his last chips in against JC Tran. Chau held K T for the flush draw. JC held KQ off for top pair. No more hearts for Chau and he was busted.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 07:20 PM

Captain Tom Franklin has finally abandoned ship. Karen Shirey, Yosh Nakano, Raul Paez, and Eric Mizrachi have also departed.

Joe Tehan got his last chips in with pocket Jacks against AQ suited. Unfortunately his opponent made the flush and Joe was busted.

Although they are not on the leader-board, I feel I should mention these players who are still in: Gavin Smith, Tom McCormick, Don Mullis, Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, Justin Marsh, Randy Gil, Amir Vahedi, Mickey 'Mouse' Mills, Robert Mizrachi, Jerri Thomas, Erik Seidel, Jimmy Tran, Hoyt Corkins, Harold 'Big Daddy' Mahaffey, and Mark Seif.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 07:13 PM

Victor Ramdin - chip leader at end of level 9

Level 10: Blinds 1K/2K with 300 antes. Play has resumed.  This will be the final level of the day.

Here are the chip leaders as of the break:

NameChips
Victor Ramdin421,000
Kido Pham371,000
John Racener275,000
James 'Catfish' Bullard175,000
Ernie Scherer145,000

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 06:58 PM

End of level 9 and 65 survivors are taking a break.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 06:51 PM

After an under-the-gun raise to 5,200, Don Mullis moved all in. The opened called all-in, showing pocket Queens. Don held pocket Kings. Board came T J 4 7 J and Don took the pot, sending yet another player home.

70 players remain as they approach the end of level 9.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 06:42 PM

Over on table 53, a critically short stack was all-in before the flop. Side-pot action between Victor Ramdin and William 'Wilpay' Payne. Flop was 4 6 J and Wilpay moved all in. Victor called, showing QJ for top pair. Wilpay held AK suited, for two overcards. Last two cards were running 6s and Victor eliminated two players with 6s full. That table is being broken and the remaining players are in motion to their new seats.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 06:30 PM

With the board showing 5 3 T 9, Bryan Sumner gets Ted Lawson to put all his chips in. Ted held AJ off (two overcards) and Bryan was ahead with AT suited. River was a 6 and Ted was felted.

Victor Ramdin (small blind) comes over the top of a David 'Devilfish' Ulliott raise. After a few minutes of thought, David said he was laying down his small pair, figuring Victor for pocket Tens. Victor showed pocket Jacks as he dragged another pot.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 05:53 PM

Victor Ramdin just doubled up. On a Jack-high board, he got all in against William 'Wilpay' Payne. Victor held pocket Kings and Wilpay held pocket 7s. The Kings held and Victor is now challenging Kido's chip lead.  He's up to about 280K.

Nenad Medic is busted. He made a move at the wrong time and ran into a set.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 05:32 PM

Kido Pham - chip leader at end of level 8

Level 9: Blinds 800/1,600 with 200 antes. Play has resumed.  91 players remain.  Average stack is over 64K.

Here's the leaderboard with chip counts from the break:

NameChips
Kido Pham311,000
John Racener234,000
James 'Catfish' Bullard160,000
Barry Greenstein158,000
Bryan Sumner155,000
Victor Ramdin150,000
Paul 'Eskimo' Clark150,000
Ernie Scherer145,000
Robert Mizrachi144,000

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 05:06 PM

On the turn with the board showing K 5 6 7 , Kido Pham bet and Steve Tran came over the top all in. Kido called immediately. Steve held pocket 9s and was ahead. Kido showed 8 6 for 8-high, with the open-ended straight-draw and flush draw. River was the 4 , completing Kido's straight and shipping him the monster pot, while felting Steve. With that pot, Kido is now the chip leader, approaching 300K.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 04:45 PM

Captain Tom Franklin got his last chips in with pocket 7s and got called by Daniel Negreanu who held JT. The board changed nothing and Tom doubled up (to about 17K).

Talk about the table of death: Due to table breaks and bust-outs, table 28 now features Barry Greenstein, Chau Giang, JC Tran, Kido Pham, and Mickey "Mouse" Mills.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 04:41 PM

Allie Prescott moved his last chips in under the gun and got called by Kido Pham in the small blind. Allie held 98 and Kido held A6 off and the lead. Board came J 3 5 Q 5 and Allie was busted.

Hilbert Shirey has busted out, but his wife, Karen Shirey, is still in. 98 players remain. Average stack is 60K.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 04:08 PM

Defending WPO champ Scotty Nguyen went down for the count when his AQ ran into the AK held by Dennis Perry.

Dennis Perry, who took down first prize and over half a million dollars at the Grand's WSOP Circuit Event last week, has busted out. He got his last chips in with AQ and ran into the pocket Aces of Kido Pham.

Bill Edler and John Juanda have also hurdled the rail (probabaly headed for Borgata).

104 players remain. Average stack is about 56,500.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 03:40 PM

John Racener - chip leader at end of level 8

Level 8: Blinds 600/1,200 with 200 antes. Play has resumed.

These were the chip leaders as of the break:

NameChips
John Racener208,000
Victor Ramdin201,000
Barry Greenstein164,000
James 'Catfish' Bullard151,000
Bryan Sumner139,000

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 03:25 PM

There has been a lot of movement during this level as players are busted and tables are broken. It is hard to keep up with them. Level 7 has now ended and players are on break. About 114 players remain.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 02:47 PM

Jason Stern put his tournament life on the line with A T on the flop of 8 4 2 . Victor Ramdin called him down with pocket Kings and those Kings held up to send Jason to the rail and send Victor to the 170K chip mark.

Cyndi Violette and Jeff Shulman have been eliminated.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 02:11 PM

'Ranger' Rick Lafay ran his pocket Queens into the pocket Kings of Nenad Medic. The Kings held and Rick was given the rest of the day off.

Other departures: Eric Cloutier, Tony Cousineau, and Allen Kessler.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 01:55 PM

Level 7: Blinds 400/800 with 100 antes. Play has resumed.  142 players remain.  Average stack is about 41,400.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 01:50 PM

Barry Greenstein - chip leader at end of level 6

Barry Greenstein still holds the chip lead with about 151K. John Racener is in second with about 126K and Victor Ramdin has about 103K.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 01:40 PM

End of level 6 and players are on break.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 01:32 PM

Johnny Grooms just made an additional clarification of the new rule: if there is a bet on the river, the player holds the stone-cold nuts and just calls the bet instead of raising, that will also result in a penalty.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 01:29 PM

On a flop of 2 Q A , Danny Wong got his last chips in against Harry Thomas,Jr. Danny (small blind) held Q 2 for two pair and the lead. Harry held A K for top pair with the nut flush draw. Last two cards were 7 3 and Harry completed the flush to send Danny packing.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 01:20 PM

Chris McCormack got all in with A K against the pocket Queens of Kyle Hamlin. Board came Q 8 8 J 7 and although Chris picked up a flush draw on the flop, it was useles as Kyle had flopped the full house. Kyle gets the pot and Chris gets the rest of the day off.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 01:10 PM

Barry Greenstein, who won this event in 2004, continues to accumulate chips and is now up to about 170K, still the chip leader.

Tuan Le has busted out.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 01:03 PM

Pocket Queens seem to be the hand of death today. Steve Kitchell just ran his pocket Queens into the pocket Aces of Ted Lawson. The Aces held and Steve was bounced from the tournament.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 12:55 PM

One of the floor people just made an announcement that a new rule is in effect for this tournament. If you are (1) at the river and (2) are the last to act, and (3) hold the absolute nuts, and (4) check, you will receive an automatic 10 mintue penalty.   Presumably this is to prevent 'soft playing'.  The dealer is required to call the floorperson to assign the penalty return time (they put a post-it at the player's position with the time they are allowed to return).

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 12:43 PM

After a raise from Jimmy Tran in the small blind, Jordan Smith moved all in from the big blind. JImmy called and Jordan showed pocket Queens. Unfortunately, Jimmy held pocket Aces. Board was no help and Jordan was busted.

Over on table 62, Eric Cloutier raised, then Harold 'Big Daddy' Mahaffey popped it again from the button. Nam Le was in the big blind and he put in the third raise, an extra 7,200. Eric folded and back to Big Daddy, who went into the tank for a couple of minutes. He finally folded, showing pocket Queens. Nam did not show.

Table 38 is the table closest to my media position today and that table features Daniel Negreanu, Captain Tom Franklin, and Justin Marsh. Hopefully I'll be able to catch any fireworks that erupt there.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 12:30 PM

On the river, the board showed J 7 T 6 2 (four flush on board) and Chris Moneymaker (small blind) fired 12,000 at the pot. Bryan Sumner had to take a couple of moments to consider, but finally called. Chris said "I missed" and showed K Q  (two overcards). Bryan showed pocket 8s which included the 8  and took the pot.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 12:10 PM

Level 6: Blinds 300/600 with 75 antes. Button starting in the 1 seat. Cards are in the air.

170 players remain. Average stack is about 34,600.

Monday, 22nd of January 2007 11:27 AM

Play will resume today about noon, or shortly after, as the remaining 170 players returm and unbag their chips.  Here are the surviving players, sorted by table and seat assignment, so you can see who will be facing off.  There were a couple of players who did not put their table/seat assignments on their card, so they are listed at the end.
