Dennis moved in on the next two hands and Gioi folded. Then on hand 4, Gioi moved in and Dennis called. Gioi held pocket 6s and Dennis held pocket Kings. Board came J 7 8 Q A and The Kings hold up. Dennis Perry finished in 1st place, earning $563,402, a $10,000 seat to the 2007 WSOP Main Event, and the gold and diamond WSOP Circuit Championship ring. Gioi Luong finished in 2nd place, earning $290,792. Dennis "Ironman" Perry of Williamstown, KY, is 56 years old and gets his nickname from the 32 years he spent as an ironworker. This is his first major event win. Gioi Luong of Westminster, CA, has won over $1.5 million playing tournament poker over the last 3 years. Dennis opened for 200K on the button and Lance moved all-in for 605K from the big blind. After a few seconds of thought, Dennis called, showing K8 off. Lance had the lead with KJ off and had Dennis dominated. But alas, the board came A 7 7 8 2 and the turn card gave Dennis the lead with a pair of 8s. Lance Allred finished in 3rd place, earning $145,396. Lance, yet another poker pro, is 37 and the reigning California State Poker Champion, usurping the role held by Ben Affleck the previous year. Larry raised to 100K and Dennis bumped it again to 200K, which Larry called. Flop was J Q 3 and Dennis fired 260K. Larry moved all-in and Dennis called immediately, showing T9 for the open-ended straight draw. Larry held KJ for the pair of Jacks. Last two cards were 9 8 and the river completed Dennis' straight. Larry Vance finished in 4th place, earning $127,222. Larry is retired and living in Torrance, CA. He won the East Coast Poker Championship at Turning Stone just a couple of months ago. Battle of the blinds. Peter (small) and Lance (big) take a flop of 7 3 5 . They get into a raising war and end up all-in. Peter, all in for 402K, held A7 off for top pair and Lance held 65 off for middle pair and the gutshot draw. Turn was 3 pairing the board. Peter was headed for a double-up unless 4 or 5 came (6 outs). Today is the day for suckouts, however, and the 4 landed on the river to complete the straight for Lance and send Peter packing. With that pot, Lance became the chip leader. Peter Martin finished in 5th place, earning $127,222. Peter is 30 years old and is in marketing. Lance opened for 90K and then Michael made it 300K. Dennis then moved all in. Lance folded and back to Michael, who made the call, showing AK offsuit. Unfortunately for the Grinder, Dennis held pocket Aces. Board came 5 J 3 2 2 and the Aces hold up, giving Dennis the pot and the chip lead with almost 1.6 million chips. Michael "the Grinder" Mizrachi finished in 6th place, earning $90,873. Michael is the 2006 Card Player Player of the Year and at only 26 years of age, that is quite an accomplishment after only 4 years as a pro player. Wednesday, 17th of January 2007 03:28 PM After a long dry spell, we finally got some action. Dennis raised to 55K under the gun and then Peter moved all in from the button for 319K. Michael (big blind) thought for a couple of minutes, then called. Dennis mucked and Michael showed pocket Jacks. Peter held pocket Queens. Board was 2 8 4 7 2 and the Queens hold to give Peter the double-up. On the next hand, Michael completed the small blind and Dennis raised 40K from the big. Michael called and took the flop of K 8 A . Michael lead with 50K and Dennis jacked him up another 110K. After about a minute's thought, Michael folded and Dennis took the pot. Matt moved all in for 68K under the gun and Lance moved all in over the top. The rest all got out of the way. Matt showed T 9 and Lance held pocket Queens and the lead. Board came 5 T 2 2 7 and Lance's Queens hold up, sending Matt to the rail. Matt Dean finished in 7th place, earning $72,698. Matt is a 27 year old poker pro who is best known for his appearance at the final table of the 2004 WSOP with Greg Raymer. Matt finished 7th then and has repeated that finish today. Larry called all-in for 348K,(as Matt had him covered) showing pocket Kings. Matt held AK off. Board came 4 6 7 Q T and Larry's Kings hold up and he doubled up. Matt was crippled to about 20K. On the next hand, Matt put his last 19K chips in and it was 5 callers to the flop trying to bust the short stack. Flop was 6 5 5 . Michael bet 30K and all others folded giving him the side pot. Matt showed K6 and Michael held Q6 and was out-kicked. Last two cards were 9 4 and Matt takes the main pot and quintupled-up. Andi moved all in for 233K and got called by Michael, who held A Q . Andi's pocket 6s were in the lead, but the board came 9 5 8 A 5 and with the Ace on the turn, the Grinder sent another player to the payout table. Andi (Huang) Chang finished in 8th place, earning $54,524. Andi is a 22 year old poker player, nicknamed "the Eliminator". He cashed twice at the 2006 WSOP and says his inspiration comes from his brother, who passed away a couple of years ago. Matt held A5 off and the lead, but the flop brought bad news: 7 3 Q. Michael took the lead with a pair of Queens. Turn was a 2 giving Matt more outs. He needed an Ace for a bigger pair or a 4 to make a wheel (7 outs). River was the A and Matt made the overpair to survive and double up. Turn was the 7 which gave Michael a gutshot and more outs, now needing a 4 or a 5 (6 outs). River was the 4 , giving Michael the set and the suckout. Elvin Simpson finished in 9th place, earning $36,349. Elvin is a 26 year old poker pro from Downers Grove, IL.
