Day 5 by Jon Eaton

Tuesday, 19th of December 2006 03:14 AM

Justin Bonomo moves in over the top of Anderson. Anderson calls with pocket sevens, and Bonomo shows A Q . The board misses ZeeJustin, and we have our final six. Justin Bonomo is our seventh place finisher, earning $152,230.

Join me tomorrow at 5pm pacific for live hand for hand updates from the WPT final table. I'll have the chip counts as soon as they are released. I'm going to bed!

Tuesday, 19th of December 2006 03:09 AM

Voulgaris moves in with Q4 and Anderson calls with two tens. The board comes 77453 and Haralabos Voulgaris is our eighth place finisher, earning $135,315.

Tuesday, 19th of December 2006 02:51 AM

To all the people who are actually still awake and reading... thanks for your support. I'm sorry my updates have been pretty crummy since we got to the final eight. I'm physically exhausted. It'll be nice to get a long sleep tonight and come back refreshed tomorrow. Stay tuned we still have two more eliminations.

Tuesday, 19th of December 2006 02:37 AM

Voulgaris opens for 225k. It folds to Hanna who moves in for 650k more from the small blind. After two or three minutes Voulgaris calls with pocket fives. Hanna shows A 8. The flop is ace high, and no five appears. Hanna doubles up.

Tuesday, 19th of December 2006 02:10 AM

Players have returned from break. The blinds are up to 40k-80k with a 10k ante. This should (hopefully...) speed action up a bit.

Tuesday, 19th of December 2006 01:28 AM

Play has obviously slowed a lot. I'm having trouble staying awake. Over two weeks of little sleep and long hours here at the Bellagio.

Right as I type that... Anderson moves in and Bonomo calls with two jacks. Anderson has A T offsuit. The board comes A 3 8 2 A and Anderson doubles up.

Tuesday, 19th of December 2006 01:05 AM

Just as a reminder... here's what they are playing for.

9th - $118,400
8th - 135,315
7th - 152,230
6th - 169,145
5th - 253,715

Tuesday, 19th of December 2006 12:55 AM

Sung moves all in for 250k. Bonomo calls from the small blind. Hanna calls from the large blind. The flop is K Q 4 . Bonomo checks, and Hanna pushes. Bonomo folds. Hanna shows A Q . Sung has Q J . Tuesday, 19th of December 2006 12:47 AM

Bonomo opens for 175k. Redlin calls. Anderson moves all in from the large blind for 690k more. Bonomo quickly folds. Redlin considers, but finally mucks.

Tuesday, 19th of December 2006 12:41 AM

Sung opens for 135k. Negreanu calls. The flop is 5 7 4 . Both players check. The turn is the 6 . Both check again. The river is the K . Sung checks, Negreanu quickly bets 300k. Sung thinks for a while and finally calls. Negreanu shows pocket aces, and Sung mucks.

Tuesday, 19th of December 2006 12:35 AM

Negreanu opens for 130k from the cutoff and Hachem calls from the large blind. The flop is A 7 5 . Hachem bets 250k and Negreanu calls. They both check the 6 on the turn. The J hits the river. Hachem bets 450k. Negreanu calls, and Hachem raps the table. Negreanu shows A 3 . Negreanu rakes the pot.

Tuesday, 19th of December 2006 12:30 AM

Hachem opens for 160k. Anderson moves in for 380k total. Hachem calls with K Q . Anderson shows A J . The board comes 4 2 4 6 7 and Anderson doubles up.

Anderson 425k
Sung 950k

Tuesday, 19th of December 2006 12:01 AM

Anderson opens for 120k. Negreanu calls. Lee moves all in for 355k more. Anderson folds. Negreanu considers and finally says "I don't believe you," and calls. Lee shows Q Q , Negreanu 4 4 . The board comes A 2 K 3 5 and Negreanu makes a runner-runner straight. Mack Lee is our tenth place finisher, earning $101,485.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 11:50 PM

There have been a lot of all ins but no one has called yet. Anderson just won a small pot by raising with AJ and getting called by Jordan. They checked it down, and Anderson's AJ was good enough to beat Jordan's A3, neither hitting the board.

Voulgaris just opened for 95k and Jordan moved in for about 550k. Voulgaris folded.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 11:41 PM

Negreanu opens for 100k. Hanna reraises to 325k from the button. Negreanu calls. The flop is 7 4 5 . Negreanu bets 500k and Hanna calls all in for 340k total. Negreanu shows J J , but Hanna has A A . The turn is an eight, and the river a deuce. Hanna doubles up.

Fred Goldberg moves in for his last 180k. Hachem calls from the small blind. Goldberg shows T 8 . Hachem has 9 9 . The board comes T Q 4 A 6 and Hachem's flush eliminates Fred Goldberg in 11th place, earning $84,570.

The tournament is paused as players combine to the final table.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 10:43 PM

Goldberg bets 160k into Hanna on a K J 7 flop. Hanna asks how much he has left. Goldberg has around 180k left. Hanna moves in and Goldberg mucks immediately.

Voulgaris and Fischman tangle and Fischman is all in with 8 8 . Voulgaris has A K . The flop comes king high, and Fischman gets no help. Scott Fischman is our 12th place finisher, earning $84,570.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 10:39 PM

Opening bets represent a large portion of the players' stacks now. One missed flop and you've lost a lot of your chips.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 10:31 PM

Negreanu opens for 90k under the gun. Fischman reraises to 300k and everyone folds.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 10:28 PM

With the board showing Q 4 x 4, Redlin bets 130k on the turn. Hachem calls from the button. The river is another four. Redlin bets 260k. Hachem quickly calls, and mucks when Redlin shows Q J.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 10:25 PM

Goldberg raises from one off the button and Redlin calls from the blind. They both check the K Q 6 flop. A six on the turn, and they both check again. The river is an offsuit seven. Redlin bets 130k. Goldberg calls. Redlin shows two fours, and Goldberg mucks.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 10:17 PM

Players are returning from the dinner break and the cards are about to hit the felt again.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 10:01 PM

I apologize for the delays. I was having issues with my wireless card. The chip counts I just posted were old. Below are the new counts. The blinds will be 20k-40k with a 5k ante when they return momentarily.

Goldberg 715k
Steve Sung 300k

Monday, 18th of December 2006 08:54 PM

12 still remain. Negreanu is our chip leader, with Hachem a close second. The cream rises to the top here at the Bellagio, every time. We're just about to the dinner break. The avg stack is just under 1.5m. I'll resume coverage as soon as we return from break. Chip counts will be up momentarily. Our short stack is Mads Anderson, with under 100k.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 08:47 PM

There's eight minutes left in this level. We break for dinner next. We'll return at 10:15p. I'll have chip counts up here after they break.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 08:40 PM

Bonomo raises to 90k on the button. Sheirbon moves in from the large blind and Bonomo calls with A K . Sheirbon shows Q J . The board comes K 4 6 4 x and Brent Sheirbon is our 13th place finisher, earning $84,570.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 08:35 PM

On a flop of Q J 5 , Negreanu checks to Anderson, who bets 340k. Negreanu raises all in. Anderson folds. Negreanu adds to his chip lead.

All I have to say is... NEGREANU IS #$('ING GOOD. Seriously.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 08:32 PM

Hachem raises to 90k from mid position. Bonomo calls on the button. The flop comes Q 7 4 rainbow. Hachem sticks a stack of 200k in pink 5k chips into the middle. Bonomo quickly folds. Hachem tables 7 3 offsuit and says, "For old time's sake!" He is of course referring to the final hand of the 2005 WSOP.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 08:24 PM

There's 30 minutes left at this level. Still 13 players remain. After this level, we go on dinner break. We will resume play at 10:15pm pacific.

There was an all in by Sung just a second ago. Anderson and Voulgaris were in the pot but both folded. Sung showed A K .

Monday, 18th of December 2006 08:13 PM

Jordan raises, Sung reraises and Jordan announces all in for 503k. Sung instantly calls with aces. Jordan shows 9 9 . The flop is A 4 8 . Sung flops top set, but Jordan has a flush draw. The turn is the 6 and Sung needs the board to pair to win. The river is a brick. Ed Jordan doubles up and Sung is cripled.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 08:06 PM

Negreanu flops a flush draw, catches running fives to make trip fives (holding 4 5 ) and bets 400k on the river. Jordan pays him off. Negreanu is about tied with Hachem for the lead (both have so many damn chips that it's tough to tell who has more).

Sheirbon 580k
Hanna 1.1m
Hachem 3m
Redlin 1.4m
Bonomo 800k
Lee 830k

Jordan 600k
Voulgaris 1.7m
Negreanu 3.1m
Sung 900k
Fischman 900k
Anderson 1.4m
Goldberg 720k

Monday, 18th of December 2006 07:52 PM

Bonomo raises to 90k in first position. Violette moves in for around 250k. Bonomo calls with A A . Violette is obviously behind with Q Q . The board comes 3 9 7 J J and Cindy Violette is our 14th place finisher, earning $67,655.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 07:48 PM

Jordan is all in with 9 9 against Fischman's A Q. The board offers no help and Jordan doubles up to around 800k.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 07:43 PM

With the board showing T 7 2 , Sung & Voulgaris check to Binger on the button. He bets 160k. Sung folds and Voulgaris calls. The turn is the Q . Voulgaris checks and Binger moves in for 275k. Voulgaris reluctantly calls with K T . Binger shows K Q . The river is the J . Michael Binger is our 16th place finisher, earning $67,655.

On a flop of 9 9 2, Jones moves in and Hachem calls. Hachem shows pocket tens, Jones A Q. The turn is a ten, and Hachem wins the hand. Jesse Jones is our 15th place finisher, earning $84,570.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 07:38 PM

Play has slowed considerably. I'll get some chip counts shortly.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 07:24 PM

Players are returning from break. The blinds are now 15k-30k with a 4k ante. After this level (if we make it that far... which it looks like we will), there will be a dinner break.

I'm going to quit making predictions, by the way.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 07:09 PM

Peter Rho shoves for around 200k. Sung calls from the small blind with K K . Rho is in terrible shape with K Q . The board comes 2 4 5 9 J and Peter Rho is out in 17th, earning $67,655.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 06:58 PM

Voulgaris opens for 72k from early position. Negreanu flat-calls the 72k. From the large blind, Goldberg raises an additional 200k, making it 272k. Voulgaris quickly folds. Negreanu, eating an apple, studies Goldberg. He then announces all in, shoving three stacks of green 10k chips in (enough to cover Goldberg). Goldberg thinks for about a minute, then mucks.

This smells like aces or kings. I've watched Negreanu play more hands of poker than almost any other top pro. More often than not, he'll flat call the raise from Voulgaris with either of these hands. Negreanu likes to keep the pot small and rarely reraises preflop, so he occasionally has to flat-call raises with hands like this, in order to conceal his strength. He also might have sensed Goldberg wanted to make a move here, and figured he could trap him into making said move by just calling. Goldberg might have sensed weakness on both players and decided to put a squeeze move on, but obviously failed to win the pot.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 06:51 PM

Sheirbon 550k
Violette 520k
Jones 420k
Hanna 1.3m
Anderson 1.1m
Hachem 1.9m
Redlin 1.35m
Bonomo 1.1m
Lee 800k

Jordan 360k
Voulgaris 1.3m
Binger 760k
Negreanu 1.5m
Sung 600k
Fischman 1.7m
Rho 200k
Goldberg 850k

Mads Anderson

Monday, 18th of December 2006 06:41 PM

With the board showing A 4 5 K 2 , Redlin bets 60k on the river. Bonomo raises another 300k, almost all of Redlin's stack. He quickly calls, and Bonomo quickly mucks his hand. Redlin rakes the pot.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 06:37 PM

Markholt calls all in for his last 52k with T 7 offsuit. Binger shows nines. The nines hold and Lee Markholt is our 18th place finisher, earning $67,655.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 06:27 PM

Rahmn and Anderson get into a raising war preflop with Rahmn getting all in with aces. Anderson shows tens, but flops a set and turns a boat. Mats Rahmn is our 19th place finisher, earning $67,655.

We're redrawing for tables.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 06:24 PM

Jesse Jones shoved for 184k on the button with A Q . Markholt calls from the large blind with 8 8 . The board comes A 2 6 5 4 and Jones doubles up.

Fischman then gets all of his chips in on a flop of A 7 5. Rho shows A K but Fischman has A 7. The turn and river are bricks and Fischman doubles up. He had over 679k in on the flop.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 06:20 PM

Hachem has become a stop sign to Bonomo. It seems everytime Bonomo raises in late position, Hachem reraises. Having the chip lead against one of the other chip leaders, Hachem can push Bonomo around quite a bit, even without a hand.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 06:14 PM

Table 53

1 Bonomo 1.2m
2 Hachem 2.2m
3 Lee 950k
5 Rahmn 400k
6 Binger 720k (what a comeback)
7 Anderson 540k
8 Sheirbon 900k (what a comeback as well)

Table 60

1 Markholt 400k
3 Jordan 350k
4 Voulgaris 1.4m
5 Hanna 1.1m
6 Jones 240k
8 Redlin 860k

Table 61

2 Negreanu 840k
3 Violette 660k
4 Sung 540k
5 Rho 1.1m
7 Goldberg 1m
9 Fischman 800k

With the board showing J x x J Q with four spades on board, Goldberg checks to Negreanu, who bets 250k. Goldberg calls and says, "Show me a bluff." Negreanu shows him the nuts with Q J. Negreanu is very healthy and playing great... watch out.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 06:08 PM

Not only did I not see the hand that cripled Josephy but I also put the kiss of death on him. Down to around 200k, Josephy shoves on the button with 9 8 . Goldberg calls with jacks. Josephy is drawing dead with no pair no draw on the turn. Cliff "JohnnyBax" Josephy is our 20th place finisher, earning $67,655.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 06:01 PM

Binger opens for 80k in the cutoff. Anderson raises to 250k. Binger moves in for 328k total and Anderson calls instantly with Q Q . Binger has A K . The flop is A T 6. No queen arrives, and Binger doubles to over 600k.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 05:57 PM

Fischman limps on the button for 24k. Negreanu completes the small blind. Violette checks. The flop is Q 9 2 . All check. The turn is the 7 . Negreanu checks & Violette bets 70k. Fischman folds, Negreanu calls. The river is the K . Negreanu checks. Violette thinks, studies, and starts counting out chips. Negreanu keeps looking back at her saying, "I already checked!" Violette chuckles and then finally bets 150k. Negreanu counts his chips, cuts out the call, and starts thinking outloud. "You could have jack ten," he says. Finally he reluctantly puts 150k in the middle and Violette says, "You win." Negreanu shows 7 6 and Violette mucks.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 05:47 PM

20 players are still remaining. They will play as long as it takes to get to six players tonight. Right now the blinds & antes are costing the players 55k (58k on the seven-handed table) per round. For the short stacks, that means it's do or die time. You can't wait for a premium hand when your M (standing for Magriel, who cointed the term that calculates how many rounds until you will ante yourself broke) is very small. Even the 500 & 600k stacks aren't too comfortable.

I would expect that we eliminate ten players in the next level, getting us to the final ten.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 05:42 PM

Hachem limps for 24k. Binger moves in for 184k more from the small blind. Hachem, eating some noodles, thinks for a bit and decides to gamble for a very small percentage of his chips. He shows 2 2 and Binger has 6 6 . The board offers no help for Hachem and Binger doubles to around 460k.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 05:31 PM

For confidentiality (and trust) reasons I won't discuss exactly what Scott & Daniel said when discussing that hand... but Daniel basically said he thinks Rho played the pot badly reguardless of what he had. Fischman probably can't call the river because he has a lot of chips and is a good player unless he had Rho beat. His bet screamed either the nuts or total bluff, and Scott obviously likes his chances with 740k in chips as opposed to just 40k (if he calls and is wrong). He's still healthy and has a great shot at the final table even after that pot. Folding made the most sense, even though the pot went down so weird that it felt like he was bluffed.

I kind of think Rho had either pocket tens or nothing. He likely would have checked the turn with nines or fives full, and with a deuce, I doubt he'd shove on the river. Rho hasn't got too out of line in this tournament. Betting with just a deuce for all the marbles doesn't make sense.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 05:22 PM

Right before the break, Fischman is involved in a huge pot. He raises preflop to about 60k and Rho calls from the large blind. The flop is 9 5 2 rainbow. Rho checks and calls a bet from Fischman. The turn is another deuce, making the board 9 5 2 2. Rho leads for 140k and Fischman flat calls. The river is a ten. Rho moves in, slightly covered by Fischman. If Fischman calls the pot will be around two million chips. There's already over 500k in the pot from the action thus far. Fischman says he can't imagine how he could fold. He studies the situation for several minutes. Finally, he reluctantly mucks. He looks to Negreanu and says, "That was the weirdest hand I've ever seen." Negreanu says, "You had like two queens?" Fischman nods and Negreanu says he will discuss the hand later with Scott.

Studying the body language of Rho I would imagine he was on a bluff or had a boat. I haven't seen him play enough pots to really read the way the betting went, but he looked nervous and was breathing heavily. He also covered his face with his hand after a bit. Maybe he was feigning weakness, but if I was judging the right decision just on his body language, I would have had to call on the river. Maybe Fischman knows more than me (psht... ok, just kidding).

Table 60

Table 61

2 Negreanu 600k
3 Violette 900k
5 Rho 900k
6 Josephy 830k
7 Goldberg 750k
9 Fischman 1m

Players are now on a 15-minute break. When they return, the blinds will increase to 12k-24k with a 3k ante. 20 players remain, vying for six seats at the WPT final table.

If I was a betting man (which I happen to be), I would gamble on the following final six... Joe Hachem (massive chips, can't count the champ out), Daniel Negreanu (best in the field), Cliff Josephy (probably the second best, and one of the most experienced), Haralabos Voulgaris (extremely good and aggressive player with a lot of chips), Scott Fischman (one of the trickiest players who changes his play up with any given hand every single time), and Jim Hanna (I got a feeling about this guy for some reason... I know nothing about him though).

Monday, 18th of December 2006 05:02 PM

Faltinsky is all in against Rho on the flop, with the board showing A T T . Rho shows A Q . Faltinsky is way behind with 8 8 . The turn is a queen, and river a deuce. Ray Faltinsky is our 21st place finisher, earning $50,745.

All players are now guaranteed $67,655.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 04:53 PM

Laura Fink is all in against Negreanu. Fink shows K 9 . Negreanu has the lead with A K . The flop is A 5 5 with one heart. The turn is a trey. Laura Fink is our 22nd place finisher, earning $50,745.

With the board showing J T 9, Hachem checks to Sheirbon, who bets 100k. Hachem calls. The turn is a nine. Hachem checks and Sheirbon moves in for around 260k. Hachem thinks for a long while but finally mucks.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 04:47 PM

Bonomo gets all 679k of his chips in preflop against Binger, who has him covered with around 1m chips. Binger shows Q Q , but Bonomo has A A . The board comes T 3 9 A 8 and Bonomo doubles up to over 1.4m. Binger is left with around 200k and change.

Justin "ZeeJustin" Bonomo might not have turned a lot of his detractors into fans, but he's having one hell of a run here at the Bellagio. Three final tables already under his belt, and he's working on making his first WPT final table in his first try (I believe).

Monday, 18th of December 2006 04:43 PM

With the board reading T T 8 , Hachem bets 110k. Lee flat calls. Binger folds. The turn is the 2 . Hachem puts Lee in for his last 267k and Lee instantly calls with 8 8 . Hachem shows T 9 . The river is the 7 . Hachem loses the pot (albeit a very small kink in his armor) and Lee doubles up to over 600k.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 04:34 PM

Laura Fink moves in for 105k from early position. Faltinsky calls from the small blind with T T . Fink tables A 6 . She's in bad shape in the K 5 4 flop with just one diamond, but the A on the turn doubles Fink up to over 250k.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 04:22 PM

Fischman open limps for 20k. Faltinsky raises to 80k. From the small blind, Laura Fink pushes for about 300k. Fischman laughs and folds (later saying he had ace king yet again). Faltinsky calls his last 200k total or so and shows A K . Fink is slightly ahead with Q Q . The flop is 6 7 6, turn a deuce, and river... an ace. Fink is left with a little less than 100k. Faltinsky doubles up.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 04:13 PM

Just a few hands ago Keith Lehr doubled Sheirbon up with pocket fours against Sheirbon's pocket nines. Lehr was visibly upset with Sheirbon thanked him "for the action." Lehr said it was a very rude comment, but Hachem and the table defended Sheirbon for making a fairly innocent comment. Just a few hands later, Lehr is walking from the table, saying "Good lucky guys." Keith Lehr is our 23rd place finisher, earning $50,745.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 04:11 PM

Believe it or not, this is only the second cash on the World Poker Tour for Scott Fischman. He cashed here at the Bellagio in the $10k event in October, for his first cash. Obviously, the Bellagio has become a homefield advantage for Scott. He's now the chip lead at his table with 900k. Here's the other stacks at his table.

Faltinsky 355k
Negreanu 520k
Violette 670k
Fink 360k
Rho 600k
Josephy 860k
Goldberg 670k

Monday, 18th of December 2006 04:06 PM

Lee Markholt just bet 300k on the flop, only to fold when Jim Hanna moved in on him. Markholt started with a massive stack but is down to about 470k now. Here's the rest of the stacks at his table.

Lee 800k
Jordan 840k
Voulgaris 820k
Hanna 1.3m
Jones 410k
Sung 560k
Redlin 490k

Monday, 18th of December 2006 04:01 PM

Joe Hachem obviously needs the money. I don't think he's ever won any real money in a poker tournament. Someone said he won some big tournament once but I haven't heard of the guy. What, does he have like, $7.5 million just laying around? Nah. $2million must be a lot to the guy.

Anyway, he's currently sitting with the lead, around 2.8m in chips. Here's the other stacks at his table.

Bonomo 1.15m
Lehr 460k
Rahmn 725k
Binger 715k
Anderson 940k
Sheirbon 260k

Monday, 18th of December 2006 03:52 PM

On a flop of 4 6 2 , Rodriguez moves all in and Hachem immediately calls with 7 8 . Rodriguez is drawing nearly dead with A A . A jack comes on the turn and a four on the river and Rolgues Rodriguez is our 24th place finisher, earning $50,745.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 03:49 PM

Correction, Steve Sung was not involved in the last pot, it was Jesse Jones with two kings.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 03:45 PM

Ed Jordan gets all 270k of his chips in the middle against Steve Sung. Sung shows K K and Jordan shows Q Q . The board comes 3 2 5 3, and the river is a miracle queen for Jordan, giving him queens full and doubling him up. Sung loses a huge chunk of change.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 03:41 PM

Players have returned and the clock is rolling. 24 remain. We play to six.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 03:25 PM

Joe Hachem opens for 40k and Lehr makes it 150k more. Hachem says he's folding jacks but doesn't expose his cards. Lehr says, "Not even kings are enough," and shows two black aces.

Hachem is our current chip leader with around 1.5m. If he wins he will be second on the all-time tournament money list.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 02:54 PM

Rodriguez opens for 50k under the gun. Hernandez reraises to 125k from mid position. Rodriguez moves in, having Hernandez slightly covered. Hernandez makes the call with K K and Rodriguez shows A A . No king comes and Frank Hernandez is out in 25th, earning $50,745.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 02:46 PM

Action has slowed considerably. 25 remain. There's 37 minutes on the clock. Next up is 10k-20k with a 3k ante. The average stack right now is just under 700k.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 02:39 PM

Hachem opens for 40k from mid position. Binger calls from the small blind. Anderson raises 125k more from the large blind. Both players fold.

This is a classic squeeze move. Anderson doesn't need any hand to do this. Hachem comes in light often here. Binger doesn't show any strength by calling. By raising a decent amount, Hachem is worried about not only the reraiser, but the flat-caller to a lesser degree as well. Binger has to respect the raise because he's out of position and it represents a large portion of his chips.

The only thing suggesting that Anderson has a hand is that he's out of position for the whole hand and raising the chip leader. If he's wrong and Hachem puts him to the test, he's lost a big chunk of chips.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 02:28 PM

Hachem 1.5m
Hernandez 380k

Marco Johnson is our 26th place finisher, earning $50,745.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 02:19 PM

Linden checks to Hachem on an A 6 3. Hachem checks. The turn is a ten. They go to war raising, and Linden shows 6 6 for a set of sixes. Hachem has tens for a set of tens. Michael Linden is our 27th place finisher, earning $50,745.

Correction... Chip Reese was eliminated 30th for $50,745. Jim Routus was 31st for $42,285.

Negreanu makes another big laydown. He raises from late position and Violette calls from the large blind. She checks the 9 7 6 flop, and Negreanu bets 30k. She raises to 60k, and Negreanu reraises again to 90k, turning the game into a session of 30-60 limit hold 'em temporarily. She then moves all in and Negreanu folds T T .

Monday, 18th of December 2006 01:16 PM

Cindy Violette opens for 32k under the gun. Negreanu makes it 82k from the button. Fischman in the large blind thinks for a long while, counts his chips, and studies. He finally mucks. Violette moves all in for 268k more. Negreanu stands up and shakes his head. "I never reraises before the flop... this is the second time," he said, laughing. He squeezes out A K , and finally mucks. Fischman admits he folded the same hand.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 01:05 PM

Mads Anderson opens for 35k from early position. Faltinsky flat calls and Reese raises 120k more from the large blind. Anderson flat calls the raise, and Faltinsky folds. The flop is K 5 6. Reese moves in for around 140k. Anderson instantly calls and shows A A . Reese has Q Q . The turn is a seven and river a jack. Chip Reese is our 31st place finisher, earning $42,285.

All players now are guaranteed $50,745.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 12:55 PM

Laura Fink shows Q 2 and has a flush on the river. She doubles through Chip Reese to over 300k.

Monday, 18th of December 2006 12:47 PM

John Hoang opens in late position and is called by Jesse Jones in the large blind. Jones checks the 8 high flop, two hearts. Hoang moves all in and Jones instantly calls. He shows aces and Hoang is behind with J 9 . The turn and river are bricks, and John Hoang is our 32nd place finisher.

With that elimination, Michael Mizrachi clinches the Player of the Year!

David Oppenheim pushes two deuces. Negreanu makes the call with kings. No duck on the river for Oppenheim and he has been eliminated in 33rd, earning $42,285.

Lee Markholt @ the 2006 WSOP

Lee Markholt is a rising star in world of professional poker, with 34 major tournament cashes and 4 first place finishes. Most notably, Lee was the winner of the PPT $500k freeroll at the Bellagio in April of 2005, and made two final table finishes at the 2006 World Series of Poker.

Lee heads into day 5 with the chip lead, Mads Anderson trailing closely behind. Can he hang on to his cheap lead today? It might be tough, considering Michael Binger, third place finisher at the 2006 World Series of Poker championship event, is still in the running... not to mention 2005 WSOP Champion, Joe Hachem.

Joe Hachem

Scott Fischman, Chip Reese, Michael Mizrachi, and other big names are also in contention. This is certain to be an action-packed day!
