Gavin Smith took a big hit with Q T. Smith called a middle posiition raise from the big blind for 3,000 chips. He checked the flop of K 9 7. His opponent fired a continuation bet of 4,000 representing a made hand. Smith made the call with his gutshot straight draw figuring he had good implied odds and not convinced his opponent held a king. The turn was 8 opening up the straight on the other end. His opponent bet 4,500 and Smith called. The river brought a 5. Sensing weakness, Smith immediately pushed 9,000 chips into the pot. His opponent made the tough call holding A  Q and took down the pot with ace high. As a result, Smith's stack is down to about 10,000 chips.

Monday, 10th of July 2006 10:38 PM
The chip leaders at the break (unofficial estimates based on a quick jog around the room): 1.Corey Chaston 50,000; 2.Greg Mueller 42,000; 3.Joe Romans 41,000; 4.Jason Stern 40,000; 5.John Phan 38,000.

Monday, 10th of July 2006 10:05 PM
Following a 30-minute stretch break, play will resume at Level 9 with blinds of 400 and 800. Each hand will require 100 ante. The green chips are being raced off. Looking around the room it appears that less than 300 players are left. The players are approaching the bubble. The payouts will begin at 270th place.

Monday, 10th of July 2006 09:46 PM
There seems to be an extraordinary number of two way races between overcards and pocket pairs. Once such hand resulted in Annie Duke's elimination with A Q against pocket nines. With a board of K J 8 7 5 Annie was forced to call it a night.

Monday, 10th of July 2006 09:15 PM
The number of familiar names in the field is dwindling. Among those busted since the dinner break were Paul Sexton, Antonio Esfandiari, Paul Darden, Joe Bartholdi, Dutch Boyd, Erik Seidel, Kathy Liebert, Terrence Chan, Max Pescatori and Greg "Fossilman" Raymer.  Level 8 is 300/600 with 75 ante.

Ted Forrest, down to the felt an hour ago, temporarily vaulted into the chip lead by knocking out two opponents with Q T. He was the underdog going in since  opponents held A-K and Q-J. The flop brought a Q and a T and his two pair held up. He has 20,500 chips. On the next hand, Greg Mueller slipped by him to take the lead with 21,000 chips.

Nam Le won a big pot with pocket jacks to increase his stack to 14,200. Level 6 has started. Blinds are 150 and 300. Antes remain at 25. Approximately 800 players are left.

Monday, 10th of July 2006 05:25 PM

Mortensen - among the chip leaders
Victor Ramdin came from behind with A  5 to double up. His opponent called his all in pre-flop with A  T. The board was K  Q  2  3 and the 4 on the river made the wheel to save the day.

Monday, 10th of July 2006 05:08 PM
Blinds have increased to 100/200 and the antes have kicked in at 25. Carlos Mortensen has added to his stack. The cut-off player raised into Mortensen's big blind making it 625 to go. Carlos called with J  T and flopped a full house (J  T  T). He put his opponent all in on the turn and raked in a nice pot.

Monday, 10th of July 2006 04:47 PM
Ted Forrest survived an all in with set over set as his pocket kings found a mate on the turn after his opponent caught a third nine on the flop.
